Topic:Dolph Lundgren In Kb/ Kyokushin?

I remember hearing stories, when I was a kid, about Dolph Lundgren being a champion kickboxer but have never seen or read anything about this. Then earlier year I bought a back issue Japanese combat-sport magazine from about 1995. It contained a Kyokushin hall of fame spanning a number of years back. The European fighters were Andy Hug, Michael Thompson and Dolph.

Does anyone know if he did compete in any form of kickboxing and what his achievements were in Kyokushin?

According to his bio:

A world-class athlete and winner of several international karate competitions, Lundgren took up martial arts at 14 and is now a 3rd dan in Kyokushin karate and attends the Swedish Kyokushin camps yearly. In 1980 he became a master in European kickboxing. His accomplishments in the sport include being the captain of the Swedish full-contact karate team and the winner of the European Heavyweight Full-Contact Karate Championship in 1980 and 1981, as well as the Australian heavyweight division title in 1982. titles. Lundgren's lifelong interest in physical fitness led to his 1987 release of an exercise video called "Maximum Potential," based on his own daily workout.

Dolph Lundgren has also been teaching the Swedish Elite Force in the Swedish army in the art of knock down karate.

I saw Lungren fight at the Crystal Palace back in 79 or 80, can't remember exactly. He was awesome, knocking them out all day long.

Speaking of Dolph. During the filming of the new re-make of Texas Chainsaw Massacre', there was a rumor that Dolph was playing the role of Leatherface. Unfortunately the rumors were false.

Who doesn't like to drive a Volvo??

Was he really affiliated with the Swedish team, because he's Norwegian? Maybe Norway didn't have a team or camp to train with?

I was at the Australian Kyokushin titles in 82 where Hans (Dolph) Lundgren managed to struggle his way through the preliminaries, much to the distaste of guest (his instructor) Mas Oyama, Who just before the final screamed something in Japanese into Lundgrens ear, whatever it was was very motivational, as Lundgren walked up to the mat, walked forward, one kick, opponent was asleep. Would love to know what Kyoshi Oyama said, would use it myself, LOL. Lundgren then met Grace Jones and went to work with her as bodyguard/boyfriend.

Awesome fighter, awesome presence, made an impact on this freckled kid.

A bit late, but....

Pisand Dolph was indeed a member of the Swedish knockdown team.
And there is nothing norwegian about him. He was born and raised in the capital of sweden.

He was part of a team that took gold in the kyokushin european team championship, he won welsh open twice, australian open one and several other competitions.
All in all, it was a shame that he switched to acting just when he was getting into his prime as a fighter.

Attatched is a old picture of young Dolph delivering a roundkick in a australian competition
