"sounds like the poor organisation has overshadowed the poformance of the fighters"
I think this is a good point. Everyone is concentrating on the negative. There were some excellent fights and some great performances and the fighters should be congratulated.
OK - there were one or two disappointing fights and it was a shame how a couple of fights ended, but hey - thats Muay Thai. Fights do end on cuts, on broken bones and people do put in bad performances. You arent going to get a show where every fight is amazing, but there were at least 4 absolutely cracking fights.
I dont think there was any problem with the standard of Thais brought over. Stephan Fox looked at the records of the fighters he was given and brought fighters of an appropriate level for fair matches. Liams opponent was really good (I wouldnt have liked to be kicked like that!) but I wouldnt have thanked anyone for bringing sopmeone who was going to give him a beating. His fight was excellent and the opponent was a good test for him. The guy has fought in Australia 4 times (2 win 2 loss) and had over 70 fights.
Sak and Darren Balshaw have both had less than 20 fights and their opponents were suitable for their level of experience. The Thais that Frankie, Kieren and Damian fought were stronger but they are more experienced "A" Class fighters. Damian has fought Wan Chan Noi and holds European Titles, and Kieren and Frankie both KO'd Thais before (Kieren in Lumpini) and both hold World Titles. The Thais that came over were strong - of course we all know there are better out there, but the sort of money we can afford in this country isnt going to pay for the best Thais to come over, and how can you sell the sport to the public in this country if our "stars" are seen to be getting beaten up on TV?
Some of the organisation problems and the fact that it was hot were not Jackos fault, and lets not forget that Jacko is working hard to help our sport grow, putting it on TV and trying to bring everyone together. He is working with everyone and things are generally moving in the right direction. Hopefully Jacko will learn from some of the mistakes and make sure they dont happen again, but at the end of the day you have to take your hat off to him for making a show like this happen and pushing the sport forward.
OK - there were some problems but why does everyone in this country have to well on these and not on the positives?
