I did a bit of Aikido years ago in London. The instructor would shout out Japanese terms and get insenced when the beginners (including myself) did not understand what he was saying- he would not explain it either. He would them tell us that we had to thank our partners in Japanese before and after working techiniques with them. He would just say "you have to say 'blahblahblah'" and expect us to instantly be fluent in Japanese and got pissed of when we were not able to recall the sentence.

My Japanese girlfriend at the time came to watch once and she said that she did not even realise he was trying to speak Japanese until I told her. He was either just making it up or his pronounciation was totally ineligible.

I quit his club after hearing him tell too many stories about him catching live-blade swords while sitting blindfolded, having 360 degree vision and being able to change another person's body temperature by just looking at them. The icing on the cake was him telling me that his 4th dan meant he was an official modern day samurai.
