The comittee of the Swiss Kickbox- and Karate Association Swisskickbox has requested a one respectively two years ban from fighting title fights in the case of the two competitors who fought for the Thai Box Superheavyeight World Champion title (vacant since the death of Andy Hug) due to positive drug test result for one fighter, and refusing the drug test for the other.

On the 8th of May 2004, Swissolympic - on behalf of Swisskickbox - has conducted a drug test on the two Swiss candidates for the title fight for the World Champion in Thai Boxing Superheavyweight title TBX +95 kg (which is vacant since the death of Andy Hug), Petar Majstorovic and Azem Maksutaj.

Petar Majstorovic has refused the test, while Azem Maksutaj's test results were positive. Azem Maksutaj confessed having been administered some of the blacklisted drugs found for medical reasons. He indicated he would be willing to give further urine samples on request to prove in the meantime he became clean of all substances. Furthermore he voluntarily agreed to be bound by and abide by the anti-doping rules of Swissolympic, which is not default for athletes in non-olympic sports. The Association has requested a one year long ban from title fights for Azem Maksutaj, beginning on the now passed date of 8th of May 2004.

Petar Majstorovic on the other had has to expect a two year long ban, as refusing the drug test in current practice usually results in being charged with the highest possible penalty. The athlete was officially briefed about this fact when he refused to get tested, but that didn't change his decision.

In the committee's opinion, the standards and requirements for a World Champions should be high, and not just in athletic performance, but also regarding their qualities as role models. As the title fight scheduled for September 18th is for the World Champion title of Andy Hug which is particularly highly regarded and symbolic in Switzerland, due to ethical and moral reasons it is mandatory for Swisskickbox to request from WKA (World Kickboxing & Karate Association) a reselection of Swiss contenders for this title fight.
