as terrible as all of this sounds its important not to let all these greed driven diasters create a bias against vaccines. in truth many vaccines do a great job and have completely ellimanated many diseases such as polio in many countries. a true vaccine is not a drug that prevents a disease but rather an identifiable protein from the disese causing organism or an inactive form of it. these cannot cause a disease and have vary rare side effects, but allow the body to recognise the orgaism and react to it in case of a real contraction of the diasese. the problem with things like the treatments for bird flu is that they are not a vaccine but a drug to 'treat' symptoms, with drugs like these the final testing of it is release to the public and hence so many problems can happen. there are also controversial vaccines such as the menengococcal vaccine that has just been done in new zealand, this vaccine doesnt protect agaisnt the forms of meningitis that are prevalent in new zealand, so what is the point of relaseing a vaccine that will protect against a few percent of cases????? same thing with the flu shots, the flu is constantly mutating and thats why is reapeats every year, so the flu shot is a vaccine against the most likely version of the flu for that year, which may not be the case.
