S-1 Oceania Championship 2007.
Get ready to rumble and prepare for some serious Full Muaythai Action as the S-1 Oceania Championship returns to Kiwi soil for the 2nd year this September.
Following hard on the heels of arguably the best thing to happen to Kick boxing in New Zealand (K-1), the S-1 Oceania Championship will be held for the second consecutive year in New Zealand.
Highlander Promotions will stage this spectacular full Muay-Thai rules, Eight Man Elimination Kickboxing Event this coming September and it promises to be a knockout event not to be missed.
This spectacular event will see some of the very best 72.5kg full Muay-Thai fighters in the Oceania Region, All of whom are either current or past World, Commonwealth, South Pacific, Australian or New Zealand Champions. compete against each other in order to secure themself a place in Muay-Thai's most prestigious event: The Final of the 8 Man World S-1 Championship to be held on December 5th in Bangkok, Thailand; and the opportunity to become the World S-1 Grand Champion which carries a prize purse of 1 million baht (approximately NZ$42,000).
For those unfamiliar with the sport, Muay Thai is the traditional art of Thailand. It’s vastly different from traditional boxing as feet, elbows, knees and fists are all used in one-to-one combat.
A Muay-Thai boxing match lasts Three - five rounds of three-minute duration; with a one & half minute rest between rounds.
In Thailand, Muay Thai has a traditional history as a martial art used by the military. Also as Thailand's national sport. Muay Thai has developed over more than a thousand years. Now in the new Millennium, the sport is growing rapidly in popularity and is the undisputed "King of the Boxing World"
S-1 Full Muay-Thai Rules are arguably the most visceral and spectacular example of any form of modern day kickboxing. The sport’s sudden death format provides spectators with all the adrenalin, drama and excitement they can possibly handle.
