I would not say that Hoost was the best in 1997, even do he won the big Grand Prix title. The 1997 Grand Prix finale fight between Ernesto Hoost Vs Andy Hug was to me a very very even fight, and Hoost was not the best. He was as good as Andy Hug, but he was NOT better. Andy could or should have won the title as well as Hoost, so the decision could have turned out to Andy as much as it did to Hoost.

Just like it turned out to Andy in the 1996 Grand Prix semifinals – it all depends who you are and how you judge the fight. If you like amazing kicks and beautiful techniques, you vote for Andy, but if you rather like to se counter fighting and great boxing skills when it is absolute best, well then you vote for Ernesto Hoost. Both of them where amazing, and true champions, just like Peter Aerts is/was in 1998.
