I dont care if your a man or a women in Muay Thai, only if you are fighing with good technique, heart and representing the sport/art of thaiboxing.
Attitudes are more accepting to women in combat by the general public, the extreme example being women in war zones but it is still deemed unacceptable to see women injured or in direct harms way Ie. not actualy fighting on the front line. Society likes the idea of equality but is not prepared to deal publicly with the results.
So the idea of women on a top bill like MSA is excellent, the general public will not enjoy the result ie. blood, injury etc. and may effect the overall public acceptance of the sport.
As a rule womens sports have always been way behind mens, for example womens football, rugby etc in participents, spectators and prize money/sponsorship so the idea of saying to females in your gym "dont bother as you wont be treated as good as the men" has no basis.
Women like Julie should be commended for the effort they have inspite of all the barriers put infront of them and im sure they inspire many young ladies in the sport as much as for example a Mia Hann would. That is the kind of level she is at.
As for letting the spectators pick matches for the MSA shows, im sure GMS is quaking in his boots with what we can all come up with! £££££
IMHO.
