Jay Bimpson wins kickboxing world title
Friday 2nd April, 2010
In martial arts Trinidad and Tobago’s Donald Snaggs lost by Jay Bimpson in their kickboxing world title fight last night in Chaguanas.
The 36-year-old Snaggs was unable to answer the bell for the 7th round and the British fighter was declared winner.
Donald Snaggs waited 16 years for a shot at the world title and finally got his chance against Jay Bimpson of the United Kingdom.
After a quiet first round, Snaggs got in the first blow in anger, putting Bimpson on the canvas.
However, the fight seemed to turn nasty when Snaggs stepped away from a tangle with the British fighter bleeding and complaining he suffered a bite to the head.
Snaggs could afford a smile, but Bimpson turned on the pressure in the 5th round. But the policeman went down after Bimpson got in a good shot.
Snaggs was holding on, but the Briton ended round 6 the aggressor. It seemed an uphill battle for the local fighter from that point.
However, Snaggs could not answer the bell for the 7th round and Bimpson was declared the winner.
The brave Snaggs was consoled by boxer and club-mate Ria Ramnarine, but his dream of winning a world title has ended, at least for now.
For the new golden belt super middleweight Jay Bimpson, he was delighted with the win.
