Bridie, i think you are a tad paranoid. I was not referring to you, unless i got the wrong end of the stick. I simply said that a title shot should not be given to someone who has only had one fight - i was under the impression it was this Genna that had only one prior fight (without headguard) and was awarded a title shot? Am i wrong? Now to me, what sort of person allows this ? Fighting with headgear is different to non-headgear in my opinion, to me it's a difference between an amateur and a pro, or a novice and a pro. Again, am i wrong?
Also, sports need regulating to some degree. By this i mean you need governing or sanctioning bodies to insist on a set of standards and criteria to meet ni order to 'deserve' a title shot. I mean you wouldn't have taken Audley Harrison straight from being an Olympic champion to allowing him a British title shot on his second pro bout would yo?
You are right it is the fighters that make the title, but who says who deserves a title shot? It should not be the promoters to decide, it should be the sanctioning bodies, and fighters should earn their right. Now if a promoter runs a sanctioning body then they can pretty much do what they wish regarding who fights who, and for which title. Don't you agree? It is these sorts of organisations what i referred to as Mickey Mouse, NOT the title belts.
Finally, i can't comment on the Light Contact Boxing thing that Dragonfoot is working on, only to say it seems a good idea for the juniors, as long as it doesn't harm their chances with the ABA's. ALso i think there is a big difference between light contact and full contact, so i think it's good to offer a safer opportunity for youngsters - this i have never slated otherwise.
