The age old spectator v Judge over DES idioms will always exist and understandably as everyone has an opinion.
However one constant remains:
Spectators have 'opinions' on fight results
Judges have 'judgement'
A spectator (irrelevant of knowledge & experience) watches a fight:
1. Further away
2. For enjoyment & entertainment
3. While enjoying food, drink etc
4. With company
5. Generally with pre conceptions of a 'favourite fighter
6. Sometimes in support of their fighter
A judge watches a fight:
1. Close up
2. Using a tried and successful scoring criteria
3. Fairly & unbiased
4. Without distraction from friends
5. On their own
6. As their profession
It would be wrong to say that judges get it right 100% of the time that is why there are 3. If one judge sees it different than the other two then it is a 'majority' descision.
Out of the two above (spectator/judge) the percentage that get it right the most is the judges.
I am a judge and a spectator and I get more (close) fights wrong when I am spectating.
However, part of the fun is debate and as long as it is kept impersonal it's what keeps an interest in our sport
Hope that helps a little
