Saturday, September 24th
Denver, Colorado

Hughes vs Koscheck

Diaz vs Gomi
Rothwell vs Hunt

Prelims

Ferguson vs Riley
Ring vs Boetsch
Assuncao vs Yagin

Te Huna vs Romero

Rampage has had a serious training camp in a new Muscle Pharm training facility (video tour) in Denver. There has been an accusation from Quinton that Jones places a spy in his camp. He clarified that in a recent interview saying that he made up an injury and didn't announce it. Then Jon Jones' manager magically found out about it even though only people within Rampage's camp knew about the fake injury. Jones denies it.

Whether true or not, this likely started from Rampage admitting to an injured hand after the Matt Hammil fight. Jones showed some interest in that information during one of their first press conference for the fight.

Matt Hughes was originally set to fight Diego Sanchez, which is a dream match that Diego has mentioned numerous times in the past (when Hughes was champion and on a winning streak). Diego has been sidelined with an injury during training and noted wrestler Josh Koschek has stepped in to fight Hughes.

This makes for an interesting match as Koscheck is considered by most to be a major step up in competition compared to Diego. Style-wise, many people think this is a bad matchup for Hughes and the betting lines opened up with Koscheck the major favorite at -500. Koscheck is known for his wrestling credentials, which are better than that of Hughes, but also for having a very heavy overhand right that he throws quite often. Hughes has a very dangerous Ground n Pound, more dangerous than that of Koscheck's (if only Hughes could take him down). Hughes has also shown better Jiu Jitsu skills than Koscheck giving him some chance in the event that he is taken down.

Both fighters are coming off losses, Koscheck's against GSP for a title shot where he lost the decision and broke his orbital bone in the opening round from a stiff jab by GSP. Hughes is coming off a KO loss to BJ Penn in the opening round of their match. Interestingly enough, after that match, Hughes was brought in by BJ to train in Hawaii to prepare for his fight against John Fitch. In return, BJ, along with Pat Miletich, is helping Hughes prepare for Koscheck.
