Nobody: I know that this is the way many feel to train for one style of fighting and it will help you to excell. I agree that if you are training for A fight you should only train for that fight. I just think that it would benefit more fighters if more people just trained there fighters from scratch to fight in all styles. This is how I always trained and it worked well for me mainly because there are some things popular in one region and others popular in others also at different times . Being able to fight in different styles gives me and my fighters more opportunities to compete so they gain alot of experience this way.
I have always trained in all styles of fighting as I train with Boxing,Kickboxing,Knees, elbows,Throws, groundfighting and self defense. This is also the way I train all of my students from day one so when they get to A high level of proficiency they are good at fighting not just one kind of fighting. If I bring A fighter out to major fights they are able to adjust to any rules if necessary. This is the way I train 4 year old children from scratch so to them it is all the same ( A fight is A fight).
In my own career I have fought under many different styles of rules and have been fairly sucessful at all of them. Having fought in Point,Continuios,Full contact,Low kick,Sanshou,Sanda,Koushu as well as trained with some of the top boxers and groundfighters in the world. I have won titles in Sanhou,Koushou and 3 Pro World Titles in Kickboxing defending them many times,so I think that I have excelled pretty well.
Actually I like to train in all styles as well as fight in them because it helps to keep me motivated to always work to get to another level.
So I guess what I am saying is that in my experience and with the experince of my Team that I think it is better for the competitor if they train from scracth to be as well rounded as possabile.
I have learned something from people that fight in many different styles and steal from all of them so it would be difficult for me to knock any style of fighting .What can I say I just love all fighting.
