I agree it should be good. 8 one fight elminations.

But hard to say who will fight who. You got 6 World Finalists from last year Hoost, Sapp, LeBanner, Sefo, Leko, and Aerts. Since he wasn't on the poster, I guess Hunt is going to have to give-up his spot. (I wonder if they will give it to the Japan GP runner-up). And you got Williams, Venetiaan, Ignashov, Graham, Bonjasky, and two yet to be picked "outstanding performers." I figure it will be between Kimo, Schilt, and Butterbean for the last spots.

Even though I don't know him- I wish fellow American Carter Williams all the best, and hope he gets through to the World Finals.

I meant 7 one fight eliminations, because one of the spots at the World Finals goes to the Japanese champion.

Ignashov has his picture on the poster, but he is not one of the 8 fighters in the official line up - according to the K-1.

I hope to see Ignashov fight, or at least to see him getting the chance to fight for a spot in the dome.

Any news about Mark Hunt and Crocop?

Would someone give me a good reason and explanation why, Bob Sapp is getting a chance to fight for a ticket to the Grand Prix? I mean… I know Bob and Team Beast is business and big money, but if the Grand Prix is for the 8 best fighters in the game, then Bob Sapp should have less or the same chance as Satake, and as far as I know – Satake left the game back in 1999.

This cannot be defended morally; it is a shame for the sport and for fighters like McDonald and Martin Holm, just to name two out of many. And again, what about Hunt and Crocop? They are top fighters, Bob is anything but a fighter.

i know k 1 changes the rules every 2 days, but isnt it supposed to be matchups
of last years finalists vs this years tournament winner qualifiers? so shouldnt
there be 14 spots total? ( japan g.p. winner gets to be someones 1st round victim)

i think i saw somewhere that cro cop is rumored to be fighting a pride match
close to the same date as oct 11. id like to see him in k 1 again but he seems
to be spending most of his time in mma these days.

wasnt there talk of hunt being injured a while ago?

this should probably the best k-1 night of the year, it will be good to see how
some of the up and coming fighters do against the veterans. it will be great to
see sapp have to fight a real fighter!

Yeah- when they did K-1 change the original format they were using this year? With the 7 finalists from last year, the winners of the 5 GP Elimination from this year, and two "outstanding performers." Matched-up in 7 one-fight eliminations for spots in the World finals. Those 7 winners and the Japan GP winner in the 8-man World Finals tournament. Which I thought was an excellent format to crown a K-1 World champion.

If crocop doesn't fight in pride in october( in other words if his challenge against fedor is not accepted to fight him in november)he will fight at the k-1 all stars in october.

Theres 9 people on the poster, no one mentioned Iganshov... I'm guessing they've done the old put the biggest name fighters on the poster, but there are actually going to be several more at the show. Hopefully it is the full 14 fighters in 7 elimination matchups.

Glen, Just like you - I am also wondering why no one is mention Ignashov's name?

As I also are saying in one of mine first messages in this topic, Ignashov is on the poster, but he is not one of the 8 fighters the Official K-1 are mentioning, as one of the 8 fighters in the All Starts event?

I hope that you are right about putting the biggest name fighters on the poster, but there are actually going to be several more at the show. I also hope to see Mark Hunt and Crocop, then the list is complete.

My All Star team for the K-1 Grand Prix in December, and favorit 8 fighters to fight for the title in Dome looks like this;

Ernesto Hoost

Jerome Le Banner

Peter Aerts

Remy Bonjasky

Ray Sefo

Ignashov

Mark Hunt

Francisco Filho

can someone refresh my memory on the 5 regional tournament winners?

ignashov, williams, and who else?

I admit I am a fan of the man and might be biased, but you seem to forget Leko. True that his GP performances were bad, but then consider he faced whom he faced. As for his right to be under the Dome at the GP, he beat twice Peter Aerts and once Ignashov and thus he earned much more credit than he diserved.

Sapp vs Le Banner is my secret dream :)) Remember my suggestions for the top-10 things passing through Sapp's thoughts - of which especially :

NO, NO, NO, Pleeeeaaaasssseee NOT Le Banner !!!

My prediction : 2-nd round KO and Sapp goes to facial bone reconstruction. If Le Banner is smart enough he can only dream to reach his chin at 10 cm reach advantage. As for Jerome's left ... it will strike where Mirko already did his damage and I don't think he will need to strike twice as Mirko didn't had to himself.

has anyone looked at yowiko's k-1 website lately? http://www1.linkclub.or.jp/~myyz/ykk-e/menu.html

wasnt leko in the finals last year? he should be in it..
Roger Deaton

Since, there has been nothing on the website, and after reading an article on sherdog- I am still going with the original format and the poster is just a poster. Since I have seen nothing about them changing the format.

OSAKA- 7 one-fight eliminations.

14 fighters :
Hoost- defending World champ, and the 6 others from last year's final- LeBanner, Sefo, Leko, Aerts, Sapp, and Hunt (but he is in question due to his injury).

5 GP elimination winners- Williams (Vegas), Venetiaan (Basel), Ignashov (Paris), Graham (Melbourne), and Bonjasky (Vegas 2).

And two "select performers" from 2003- So you can figure it will be out of Kimo, Butterbean, Semmy Schilt, Tony Gregory, etc.

Tokyo Dome- 8-man World Finals Tournament :
7 winners from the Final Elimination in Osaka and the Japan World GP winner.

Roger;

Venetiaan who won the K-1 Andy Hug Memorial 2003 in Basel is out, because of positive doping/drug test.
David Lucas
Posted: 2003-09-16 13:50:49
wasnt bregy declared the "winner" to replace venetiann?

it sounds like filho is likely to be a "select performer", maybe the
winner of butterbean-bernardo will be the other?
i like sammy schlits style, has he had any kickboxing matches lately?
Roger Deaton

I forgot about the thing with Ventiaan. It was suppose to be the winners of the 4 eliminations and 3 "selct fighters", then they had another at the 2nd Vegas show- so maybe that was to fill the spot Ventiaan had. Looking at the poster- Filho must be in as one of the "select fighters" or because Hunt is injured.

But hey- who knows maybe they have changed their minds on the format. To protect Sapp if he got beat in his elimination match. Who knows with K-1. But, again, I have yet to see them announce a change in the format.

Which would make Aerts, Hoost, Filho, LeBanner, Bonjasky, Sefo, Sapp, Ignashov, Willaims, Leko, and Graham definites. Then three others from a group of fighters such as Mirko (if he fights K-1 again), Kimo, Butterbean, Schilt, Greogry, Bregy, etc.

i forgot about cro cop. it would be great to see him in it, i guess its his
choice. every other tournament lineup has been in flux until about 2 days before,
why not this one?? ;)

also i have a solution to the sapp problem: enter him in the japan tournament
and let him go straight to the finals as japans rep if he wins! ;)

As far as I know, Stefan Leko is also out because of positive doping/drug test.

Just like Venetiaan, Leko was tested positive after the K-1 Andy Hug Memorial in Basel after his fight against Mike Bernado. So I guess they both are without any chances to qualified them self for the grand prix. Which if more than fine with me.
David Lucas
Posted: 2003-09-17 10:04:15
its kind of weird that k-1 would disqualify these 2 because they failed a drug
test in switzerland, when it seems that they dont do drug testing in japan.
i wonder if bob sapp would pass??

PRIDE has confirmed Mirko's fight against Fedor scheduled for November 9th.
On the other side UFC suggested,in case of Mirko's victory over Fedor, possibility of fighting against Josh Barnett, current UFC HW champion, next year in June.
Mirko will probably spend whole October in Japan prepairing for the title fight, so he will be training in Takada gym with Sakuraba and Fujita.
it's official mirko is out of this year K1grandprix.

ADAM ATMCGLDTR:

Yes, steroids.

Even do Venetiaan is trying to convince the K-1 Organization, that he is steroids free, but "only" has taken party drugs... which in English means hash or marijuana I guess?

David Lucas:

Bregy was declared the "winner" to replace venetiann. Bob Sapp will never past a drug test, he is more positive today, than Arnold was back in the late 70's when he won Mr. Olympic for the fifth time.
Glen

7- Ignashov
8- Sapp
9- Williams
10- Graham
11- Bergy
