New Zealand Fight Scene

It's alive and kicking in New Zealand at the moment. After seeing JWP post on the Christchurch show and a few people inquiry about events over here, prompted me to get this out.

Along with a posting from Lollo, good to see you again on the Board Lollo, and seeing Catherine Maclver's name down for a fight in the River City Rumble.

Well done Chiang.....It seems like you have been doing an awesome job promoting our Kiwi fight scene on AX while I was away.....good on ya mate.

Yes...there is a show in just about every month here in Auckland (without me promoting any of them.....can you believe that? he!he!). And now the door is wide open as Top Boxing Promoters working in conjunction with Top Thai Boxing Promoters running mixed shows (Boxing & Thai Boxing officially)I remember about 7 years ago when I first Promote the first ever official sanctioning of a combined Thai Boxing & Boxing promotion. The poor bloke who was the President of ABA (Auckland Boxing Association)at the time who helped me officially sanctioned the boxing bouts, was forced to resigned because of that....How things have changed...

I went to a show ran by Jason Suttie the other night and it was sold out a week before the event....I have been away from fight scene for a while and I was very impress with the standard of novice fighters. I also heard many good things coming from your area. Dave Hitchins is running a massive 8 men show in Wellington next month. This is the same month as the NZ K-1. Chiang, can you tell us anything about that event? Things is looking very healthy for Kiwis fight scene alright.

Hi Chiang

Thanks for the mention. Here's what I know.

Big fight night - Boxing and Kickboxing here in Chch on Friday 9th.
We have managed to get one of our guys on the show fighting a guy from Perth.
Looking forward to seeing the fight between Daniel Dawson and Nick Misich!

Re Nelson fights - I was matched to fight Debbie Saxton on this show but unfortunately she pulled out injured. Kerry has another 7 or so fights on, mainly novices.

Re Auckland fights - Ngapera Perata is fighting Julie Wood on this show. This should be an awesome fight to watch!

Re River City Rumble - some good novice fights matched plus at least one title fight. I'm still not matched but hopefully Debbie may be fit by then.

Also do you know who won the fight in Palmerston North a couple of weeks ago between Debbie Saxton and Heather Smyth. It was for a title but not sure which one.

Talk again soon

Cath

Sandy

Do you stay up all night reading this site????

Yeah bummer about the fight but at least I got a weeks notice. Still fighting at 55 kg but there's not many of us around in NZ so getting good fights is hard.

I've been reading your messages about Jussy. I got my sister to record both programmes so looking forward to getting the video.

Re the show on Friday - planning on talking to as many people as possible. Do you know Nick Misich? Darren said he fought on one of Master Sken's show's.

What happened to Marie - How come she ended up with a draw after the scorecards had her as winning? Is there a rematch?

Talk soon.

Hi Lollo

Not sure who's all fighting on the Card for the Super-8 in Wellington, but from the chat after Palmerston Nth fight a couple of weeks ago here are several of the names.

Andrew Bannon said he's looking at a contract and the guy he fought up at Napier for a Title 3 weeks ago, and whose name escapes me ....

Peter Aberdeen from FreeStyle Thai Academy.

Kerry Sidwell from Nelson told me he has a guy entered, a boxer with 70 boxing fights and ONE kickboxing fight

Billy Davis names has been mentioned, but Ben Ahipene said he wasn't sure about whether he would or wouldn't fight ... !!!

I guess Lance Pearson has to be in there somewhere ..

Aaron Boyes was saying he had his name in but said as he was fighting at the end of the month in Australia and didn't think he could pack the weight back on in time for the end oof July.

Hopefully be talking to Lloyd or Dave over the next couple of days and will get something definite.

Hope to see you at Brett d'Arths show on the 16th in Auckland .. .. Dave Hitchens will be there too with his fighters
