Jones, can I comment on the first paragraph of your post. More people die rockfishing in Australia than any other sport. There are more serious injuries of the footy feilds each weekend than there are in kickboxing each year although obviously the footy codes have a much higher involvement rate.

I think the one of the reasons the boxing/kickboxing officials get so upset at the critics is because so much is done to protect the fighters, especially at the amatuer level. Doctors must be present, the fighters are check before and after a bout and even though the judges may be off from time to time the referees take close care of the fighters and are often accused by the crowd of stopping fights early. If you are stopped by the ref it is automatic 30 day out. In footy you can go back on as soon as you come to.

Kickboxing is safer than boxing because of the nture of the sport. You have more target areas to attack, its not just head shots. Anyone who has done both will tell you that boxing hurts your head more than K-boxing. More to come
