I see this as an opportunity to do my bit to help promote the sport and the art of martial arts in a positive way.

I like my farther before me am dedicated an passonate about promoting martial arts in a positive way and intend to continue this with the help of us all in fighters magazine.

There is so much talent in this country past, present and future I am privledeged to be in a position to write home about it but I cant do it alone I need your help.

This has developed through the success locally of my Seconds Out feature in the Trafford Living magazine and my pasion and own success to the Martial Arts and my drive and willingness to help all and not be bound by politics and long may this continue.

My feature Full On with Lee Green will be a 5/6 page feature in the next edition of fighters. This as instructed by Mr Clifton (thank you sir) is an introduction to the magazine of myself and then will continue monthly and go on to cover news, whats on, interviews, upcoming stars, fighters, promoters, events etc in the world of Muay Thai, K1, Kickboxing, MMA, Boxing.

Anoyone interested in feature in my piece or has any news to write about email me at

Yep I was awarded it through the Kru Association of Thailand who also just honured Master Sken his Grand Mastership.

so what is the criteria? do you turn up pay your money then become a master on paper? do you not have to of fought? what do you have to know to be a mater do they judge your technique. seems a load of bollox to me. i have trained with some muay thai legends and not one has been noted as a master! i have trained with phon narupai for 2 years he has 2 times win over sangtien noi and 200 other top level bangkok fights but you are higher than him in your name, seams a joke!
Lee Green
Posted: 2009-12-17 04:18:46
Being a good fighter doesnt make you a Master of Muay Thai. Like wise being a good coach doesnt necessarilly mean you are good instructor.

Firstly you have to be nominated for such priviledges and have to have certain credentials to qualify including experience in Muay Thai / Muay Boran training of which I personally have 28 years also teaching experience of which I personally have 20 years also personal achievements, competion and level of grade, running your own school, producing good fighters and students and your overall contribution to the art and sport including representing your country promoting, teaching, taking part in seminars and marketing the sport and the art in a positive way.

As I say both Master Sken and Master Toddy to name but a few were awarded there Grandmastership this year so what you say is a joke is offending them also.

This is recognised by the thai government and the university of Thailand.
Lee Green
Posted: 2009-12-17 04:20:09

Was honoured to be paid a visit at my hotel in Bangkok by my god father the legend himself Grandmaster Toddy
Lee Green
Posted: 2009-12-17 04:26:51
Oh and Paul i'm sorry if this offends you, but I'm just doing my job to help promote muay thai which is what we should be all doing yes???
Lee Green
Posted: 2009-12-17 04:32:02

I know what I have done and what I have to offer to the art and the sport so mock all you like I can hold my head up high and know that I am more than capable and more than worthy of my status.

Lee Green

Oh and by the way yes I promote my business and my self in my local community but this post is not about me its about the industry working together hence me saying

"Have your say"

I'm just showing examples of my work and why I was given this post. Anyone who knows me (according to you Paul so well) knows that I'm not about me me me far from it Im out to help everyone else and for the good of the art and the sport.

You questioned so I answered - see I cant win!!!!

What is it your doing to help the sport / art ??
paulinthailand
Posted: 2009-12-17 06:00:17
i dont know you i dont hate you, just sayin what im seeing, kru yai translates as head teacher not assistant master!
paulinthailand
Posted: 2009-12-17 06:03:31
im teaching quality fighters as in real good fighters and have been comisioned to write a book next year by a big publishing house, which will be the best muay thai book ever showning good quality techniques and correct rules and scoring, trust me my knowledge is far greater than yourself and i dont need to write about it all on here to advertise myself!
paulinthailand
Posted: 2009-12-17 06:05:42
and im not even a master! but am quite fluent in thai, as im sure you are and have lived in thailand for 5 years, beat that!

i am with you on this paul, talk about bigging yourself up. i dont know you lee and good luck to you , but if you have been teaching as long as you say who have you brought through thats any good? . This isnt in any way a dig at you just a question.

Your entitled to your opinion Paul but there are powers far greater than you and I in the World of Muay Thai. Your passing judgement on something you dont know about and pooin my work and contribution beacause i have been rewarded from the organisation im part of and the authority of Thailand.

I know what Kru Yai means and I havent once mocked you or called you a "kick boxer that calls himself a muay thai master "

I didnt call myself it I was labelled it by the above mentioned.
Lee Green
Posted: 2009-12-17 06:25:41
SPlinter your ignorance is bliss there is more to muay thai than just fighting you know go and Master Sken none the least and he will tell you himself.

Like I say entitled to your opinion but I really couldnt care what you think of me you know nothing about me.

Im not in your little click and I dont want to be I work hard and try to help everyone whether I have your approval or not.

You dont know me Kevin / Paul but have grown up with muay thai my whole life being the son of the pioneer of this country I missed out on my dad being around growing up as a child as he was chasing his dream and trying to support his family. I had to grow up very quickly having no dad around and have worked since the age of 6 (no im not after sympathy) and since the age of 12 i have strived to help my dad succed in business by turning his hobby / profession into a sustainable living.

I have the ability to do that and at the same time I have an ability to be able to defend myself at the sametime and now an opportunity to help others

So mock me all you want I am true to myself and thats all that matters :o)

Yes I am a Kickboxer amd also a Nak Muay oh and I can box too. I am a martial arts athlete and have trained in many different disciplines over my 32 year span so call me what you like I am more than adaptable!!

IMHO fighters magazine has gone to the dogs since the last change of editor.

I stopped buying it a long time ago. I thought it was okay when it featured
all the traditional arts, then when they were dropped it improved as the coverage for Thai-K1-Kickboxing was expanded.

But now its quite obvious the Editor is a fan of boxing which has countless publications already (i am to but i`ll buy a boxing mag). The "News round up" features latest supplements and protein bars released, news?

Boxing, Boxing,BJJ,Boxing, BJJ, MMA,MMA,MMA....

I flicked through this months off the shelf trying to decide if i should give it another go! 2 articles on Thai, MSA (the writer getting a bit carried away "setting the scene") and a legends preview. I put it back.

I have met Lee a couple of times informaly at shows but wouldnt say i Know him,
but he seems like hes ready able and willing to raise the profile again in the mag for muay thai, which can only be a good thing.

Good luck Lee, I might even buy it next time. :)

Rome wasnt built in a day and this role and feature will grow
and develop with time.

After reading comments on this thread from people saying its all about
me me me well in the next edition my feature Full on with Lee Green is
about me as I was requested to introduce myself to the World of fighters
and Martial Arts as there is alot of people in the industry that dont know
anything about me, dont know I am the son of the World famous Ronnie Green
and will question who I am and what I have done.

The answers will be there for all to see for those who are interested as
there are many readers on ax thousands that will never post, but are
interested in whats going on and who is who.

In life and in business to be successfull its about making people aware
of the good we preach so why not tell the world what you are doing that
goes with out question for us all.

What I intend to do is for the good of us all and the industry so with
your help we can shape a positive future for all us.

Sawatdee Khrup Lee!

Firstly, welcome to the team! We can push the media side of Muay Thai to the forefront the more quality people like yourself on board. As you know, we need people to send in quality articles not snippets of information, poor photos and late results, then moan as to why they are not represented. I will write/interview about anyone/anything Muay Thai related and often get people asking me to do an article about them, their fighter or club/event but when they are asked to send some info over so that I can digress and present ...... nothing, then I get asked when their article is comng out?!?! lol! It's great to have you on board Lee and I know you will be both enthusiastic and profesional and help put Muay Thai on the front page.... A warm hearted welcome!

Now onto a more personal matter that I see has caused opinion on this thread (if you don't mind). That's what it all is really, opinion. You see there will always be a difference of opinion when it comes to grades and titles in Muay Thai. As we know there are no grades in the 'sport' of 'Muay Thai' the only real grade (for the fighter) is his/her fight record. However we do have 'teachers' and 'coaches' and Muay Boran has grades. Now Muay Thai has grades too but generally these are either developed by the individual club or by an organisation such as the WMF which bases it's grades historically. Now this is really for another topic so I will stop there and move to the point.

Having a Kru, Kru Yai, Arjarn, Bramarjarn grade is akin to having a Car licence, Heavy goods licence and PSV (Bus/coach)licence each licence (grade) adds more responsibility.Of course, qualified or not, there are good drivers and bad drivers just as there are good instructors and bad instructors. So it is not about the grade par se but the individual who has earned that grade and carries that grade. What are they contributing?

What causes the problem Leigh is the age old argument of the 'master', be it in Gung Fu, Karate or our beloved Muay Thai. People perceive a master to have undefeatable skills, unlimited knowledge and yet masters are, generaly, past their physical peak, their fighting days are long over, but the possess knowledge and experience. So if someone young achieves the grade of master and possess high skills we will still question their experience and knowledge.

There are many out there who appoint themselves the title of Kru, Arjarn etc but it doesn't take long to see by their skill level and understanding (not knowledge, as this can be learned through reading. For myself personally my first 'Kru' grade was awarded to me in the UK,but I never felt it was enough (no disrespect to my teachers) so sought out to test myself in Thailand and trained with the WMF to achieve this and was hounoured and privelaged to be awarded this by Bramarjarn Woody. Does this make me a good teacher, no, am I more knowledgeable with this grade, no.It simply says what it is on the tin KRU = TEACHER nothing more nothing less.

For you to have achieved your grade, I know you would have dedicated your time and energy to learning and I know they don't just give these away so well done.

For those who think that grades are bullshit I can agree on one thing, with or without them the individual will still be the same.... A good driver or a bad driver

Congratulations on the appointment, that is a massive role in the magazine i wish you the best of luck with it. I have a contract with an experienced credible opponent from a solid gym for next year already but if tony wants me to take that fight afterwards i would do it no problem at all and have 100% confidence in winning the bout comfortably, if Tony sees it as a suitable fight for me. Regardless of weather or not it happens i think everyone knows there is no bad blood between us regarding your pullout last time and that is the main thing. Good luck with it subeditor, i will call you that but i am not calling you Kru Yai or grand master ajarn lol. Take it easy.

Thanks Shaun, ... and like you say there is a distinct difference between Muay Thai & Muay Boran like wise a coach/trainer and instructor/teacher.

I like you have a disre to promote our art and sport but I also take a keen
interest in all martial arts as a whole and see there links differences and
similaritites. Adpation and varation apllied with strategy is what makes the
difference you can not just rely on either JUST power, speed, acuracy, timing, emotion and skill alone, its a combination of them all and the process of the mind plays a massive part in the outcome.

I look forward to working with you more closely my friend :o)

I also have bouts lined up next year with "credible opponents" as you put it and am more than willing to take the fight, as discussed in brief with Tony at the last MSA show and with Golden Belt. I've had a number of promoters saying lets get it on and I am ready when you are.

The fight between us last time didnt happen yes because I had to pull out due to problems with the promotion that I had dig from the grave that cost me a major financial deficit no other reason as you well know. You also offered your services to judge on the show and agreed to join me in the announcement at the show hence picture above.

Liam your right my friend there is no bad blood between us and nor will there ever be.

lol I dont expect anyone to call me Kru Yai , grandmaster or ajarn not even my own students do. It was a title was awarded from thailand for my contribution, achievements and knowledeg etc and I am very honoured - Khap Khun Khap.

Although you can bow down and kiss me feet when im polishing my new belt - lol

Speak soon bud have a great xmas. Now dont pull out on me know will ya ;o)

It is only fitting that the son of one of this countries biggest legends in Thai/Kickboxing have a pivotal role in promoting both combat sports to the general public.
I have no doubt whatsoever that the legend Ronnie Green is really proud that his son is carrying on his fathers legacy and also getting more involved in martial arts journalism.

Ironically I remember Ronnie refereeing at a Golden Team show in Leeds.
Ronnie walked straight up to me and said " you! Youre a writer arent you?" we had a chat about how things are in martial arts land. He then bid me farewell and said "lets get together and write that article".

It turns out that his son is now writing more than just mere articles.Well done to Lee Green on securing this highly esteemed position.
There will always be people questioning "it should be me or blah blah blah"

As long as Lee does a fair job and ensures that people from all governing bodies have their say, then no one can complain.

I agree with weazeldeazel. One issue of fighters magazine really DID put me off!!!
All i could see in it was MMA ! If i wanted to read about MMA then i would buy "fighters only" or "fighting fit" LOL

Lets hope there is more coverage for thai and kickboxing shows and also coverage of newly crowned champions and up and comers in the sport.

Just to clarify both Chris and Dan are still in the same positions as Chris being UK Kickboxing Sub Editor and Dan being UK Thai Sub Editor.

They are both doing fantastic jobs and I hope to build a strong working relationship with both of them as disscussed with both, in order to form a
great team and working partnership.

My title will be know as UK Full Contact Sub Editor where by I will cover aspects of all martial arts through my working network and as I say, will compliment where I can and liase with both Chris & Dan.

so this was all a big lie about being a thai editor then why are you doing this and pretending to be somebody you are going to be so lonely when that bell goes and you realise your dad is outside not inside the ring and no amount of photos will make you fight any better i will be shocked if Liam R does this build up bull he writes some funny stuff on here but he is realistic about his fighters and of his own level i think he would be embarrased are you now admitting you lied?

please play this down a little and get it back on topic, the world is so much bigger than us lol. nothing has been agreed but tony is happy for me to do the fight so it will happen and i will train for it again but if for some reason i train for it again and it doesnt happen it will not be entertained in the future, i would ignore the mud slinging, i havent encouraged it and while a bit of fun and added gambling hotts it up a little i dont want things going to a silly personal level otherwise it definitely wont happen, just chill out seems like u are either going to have a mental breakdown or u have a severe hardon again and soon to blow ur load over it. Relax, enjoy ur christmas with ur misus or she will ban u from fighting again. there is a big difference between taking a fight because you think you could win it and fighting a fight you know you cannot lose, i hope it doesnt ruin the whole team higher level thing afterwards. now back on topic fighters mag interviews with our big uk names like hitman, dean jay etc.
