does anyone have ice baths after a fight and what do u think?
i was in a 8 man tourny and had my first one ever after the first round as my legs were bad then had one after the final and the next day my legs were better after 3 fights than they usually are after 1 fight?
In Thailand i have seen, helped and had lots of ice rub downs after fights (I use to do with my fighters also). In my opinion it is great.
Most of my fights I followed (that night or next morning) with a hot bath. I also think they are great and seemed to work for me.
My guess is the best might be to go back and forth just like many people would with an individually damaged area (knee or finger or something)
I once had a world class chiro/ART/accupuncture etc guy explain what ice does to injury and the western perspective and what heat does and the eastern perspective and both had big value.
I think he was also of the opinion that both...
I would do ice right away after and a few hours later maybe ice and heat if I had to plan it out.
there are small tears in your muscle when you have done activity so by having an ice bath it helps repair the little tears therefore causing less muscle aching
in the past i have put up with aching coz they are ruthless lol

Ice straight away for bruising plus compression and elevation . Ice is to cool and thicken the blood so that it doesn't spread through the damaged cells therefore limits the bruising and damage. Heat, alchol and asprin all thin the blood making it flow easlier so causes greater bruising and delays recuperation. I have a rule that fighters are not to use any asprin based pain killers or alcohol for 24hrs post fighting.

I have a standard rule that fighters are not to use any asprin based pain killers or alcohol for 24hrs post fighting. Biggest worry is the potential bleeding you cant see, especialy in the head. Guess I could try to get them to stick their head in a bucket of iced water.
I seen the irish amatuer boixng team high performance gym,they would use 2 mins of cold and 30 seconds hot after every training session 5 times.
hot/cold/hot/cold one of best things for recovery from training I think
I think that there is a difference between treating the DOMS from training hard and treatment for bruising from impact. If contusions then only rest, ice, compression & elevation of the injury for 48hrs. If just general soreness then alternate cold then heat works well.
