Topic:Cronological V Biological Age
was having a chat with a chap at the gym today and this subject came up cronological v biological age. only thing i have heard of simillar is wi fit age ha. sounded a intersting subject and i am going to find somewhere to get it done. was wondering if any one had experience of this and knows how its calculated or is it another keep fit fad?
I've had this done and knew a bit about one way anyway. But I don't recall much.
You could try looking up biochemical markers of aging.
cronological age is the measure of time. biological age would be more a reflection of the health of the body.
Not sure if the same but with biochemical markers you'll get an "age" in different areas and you can see where you might be a little behind or doing really well health and life style wise
yep age or mileage? depends what you have done in your years.
Its my understanding that 75% of genetic potential after the age of 45 is determined by what you do up to the age of 45.
Genetics in a way is huge but genetic expression (genes turning on and off, how genes act etc) is so determined by the genes environment which is the cell. The cell gets its info from the receptor sites on its surface. They take in neuropetides (informational chemicals etc)... what comes into the body from food, air, skin etc and also the chemicals released with thoughts and emotions. What research has found (Candace Pert and Bruce Lipton for example) is that the same receptor sites and the same neuropeptides are found everywhere in the body.
That means the insulin response to food affects the brain as well and the chemicals released with feelings of anger or joy also find there way to the heart, immune system, lungs, muscles etc etc etc
No the "grandfather cells" teach the baby cells whats what and how to act (all the cells are replaced in the body all the time - I think the vast majority are replaced within 6 years). So if you change the incoming information you get a different out come.
I think thats pretty cool and gives some insight to the healing potential of the body.
chronological age can get younger as we live healthier etc (so far there are still limits of course)
Mark its common for ppl to take hgh now for this effect. is there any benefit or just to make $$$ for suppliers?
Pluses and negatives and money in my opinion.
Biggest ways without negatives to health is to balance your circadian rhythms, balance your stress with recovery. That means sleep cycles ("Lights Out" is a good book), food, water and lifestyle ("How to Eat, Move and be Healthy" - also covers sleep).
But most of us in the West are so conditioned to living unnaturally that living in accordance with nature (we ARE animals) is stressful and difficult. Our societal programming is such that we eat sugar, miss sleep and sleep times in ingest countless amounts of toxins etc
Most want a quick fix regardless of negative long term health affects.
hgh will give benefits but the human body takes the path of least resistance. That means when you take hormones your body doesn't have to make them - "use it or loose it", don't use it and your body will stop making it naturally (to a lessor or larger degree. Hormones affect EVERYTHING! and messing with hormones, even more naturally means messing with everything!
If you have the money and time Poliquin does some more natural and less damaging ways of getting great results. Example - some of his athletes inject large amount of vit C while while lifting etc
But hgh will give you some wicked short term results if done right. I just think its smart to look at all the +s and -s before making a decision.
Yes thanks Mark, its not for me wouldnt take that nor could afford anyway. however i can see its used as much now in the gyms at steds were 10 years ago.
