Hey Guys,

I'll post some pics as I process them.

Some totally awesome fights, and especially fun shooting when you have another photographer there to yap to. Hopefully Terry will drop his images in the same thread, I'm sure between the two of us we pretty much got the night covered.

Thanks for covering my ass Terry. One cigarette and a coca cola cost me totally missing out on a fight which only lasted 57 seconds.

Thanks Terry, your a gentleman.

Terry,

I've managed to loose my fightcard, and my wife's just slapped me for loosing her pen.
If you don't mind, would you kindly post the results.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing your pictures. They looked great on the LCD.

Pictures look great Terry. Nice colour, great exposure, nice balance.

Just a tip.

Right click one of mine,
you'll notice that even though mine are pyshically larger images, they seem to be typically about a third of the file size. About 130k compared to about 250k+. Yet, there isn't really any advantage for web use if you compare them, of using higher grade files.

If you're using photoshop, saving the jpeg file at a quality level of about 7 will drop the fill size by several times. This will make them load up heaps faster for those of us still on dial-up, and give us more time to view them.

Good job.

Forgot to add Terry.

I especially like your choice of Edit.
I think it illustrates so well that naturally the connection shots are important, but also too are the little detail shots that give us a feeling for the fights actual progression and the turn arounds (like the ref walking towards manning, and the intensity and focus in the Dinesh shot).

I'm so impressed.

Thanks Paul, Scottya and Shyguy...

Paul I thought you would like those two photos, as they stood out for me as well. You told me the photo must tell a story and these 2 did.

Scottya, It was 2 things, the new digi cam and Paul, without him I would be lost.

Thank you again.

Referee Ignatious Misaladeous (sp).

One of my fav Aussie refs.
This guy is just so cool, he seems to simply have some sort of 6th sense lately and just quicksteps compared to other refs when walking past lenses.

Sot Soliminidis Vs Anthony Manning

Paul
Posted: 2004-11-18 12:11:02
Thanks J.A

I wish someone had shared the info with me when I first started out.
Honestly, my memories of pro photographers back in the early 80s, was of a pack of mean bitches. It all came from the rivalry of working for different daily publications, and wanting to bring back the best images for their respective jobs. I can understand taking your job seriously, but not to the point of becoming a mean prick to all those beside you.

I thought to myself that it was all so unnecessary, and many times have seen Pro's give new comers whom where no threat to them, but simply there for the sake of hobby, deliberately give amateurs bad advice, and then turn to another pro and giggle. Back then, this could cost an average bloke half a days wages to be able to shoot and develop a couple of rolls of colour film (days before mini labs in early 80s, you were paying more than you do now, except that wages were about $45 a day.

Also, I'm probably going to move to Sydney which is already being professionally covered by my good mate and Ax member Ian Sly, with whom I have no intention of being rival too. I would much rather sit alongside Ian and have a yap between rounds. I'll probably try and get into motor racing for passion, and Weddings fro bread and butter work.
So my motives are a little selfish, as when I'm no longer able to go to these Vic shows, I'd still like to be able to see good images, so why not teach the new blokes who want to learn as much as I can.

And mate, I'm so impressed by both guys. Both doing extremely well, and spending much of their own money and time to bring these images to us.

Sot Vs Manning

Sot walking back to his corner, after just informing ref and opponent that he could not continue after the 4th round. I think Anthony and corner were as surprised as both Terry and I. This left me thinking that Sot must have got a pretty decent injury.

If anyone knows any more on this, please fill us in.

Final Pic,

One of the major sponsors from the Saville Hotel, Don Carrott, with cardgirls Ewa left, and Kim right.

Just a big Thank You to both the Promoter Michael Vukovic and to Don for their unprecedented generousity, and taking seriously Kickboxing photography. It's such a breath of fresh air not having to justify your expenses, as many times we're reduced to near begging.

Guys, as nice as it is working with digital, it's become a total curse to those of us whom used to be able to work our own film and print processing. After dayrate, it used to be possible to make an O.K living out of Event and Editorial photography. Now that we're shooting digital, I'm always having to justify my costs as organisers reckon digital is cost free.

Sure it is, next time you fork out the 20K for bodies that become redundent inside 2 years, and I'll work for half the price.

Thanks guys, it was an absolute pleasure working for you Michael.
