Bury muaythai Dinner fights
dazzathethai off here held a Dinner Mtshow on friday, who else went?
good little show with Gfc and Bad company etc: fighters
photos later
The results were as follows:-
Pete Holden GFC did a cracking demo bout with Nial from Bad Company
Andrew Mellor GFC won on pts against Andrew Amos from King Cobra. Carcking tear up, Amos only took the fight at a weeks notice and what a pace the two fought at, would like to see him fight with five weeks notice.
Mat Hodcroft GFC won pts v Eddie Cheung from Caladonian. Good use of all Muay Thai weapons never realy let Eddie get into the fight. But well done to Eddie for taking a half day off work and traveling all the way down from Glasgow
Ste Conlon GFC won tko 1st rd against Ryan Drey from Bad Company, fight was only just getting going when Ste landed two left body kicks, the second of which may have broken Ryan's ribs.
Kirsty Hall won pts v Jo McGourty, didn't see this fight, it was a majority decision with some question by a few people I've spoken to as to whether the judges got it right
Last fight Dan Bradley lost pts to Stephen Miekle Calodonian. this was the fight of the night for me. Dan had two fight five years ago when he trained with Master Chana, he stopped training and started again with me about a year ago. This was his first fight back. Stephen only took the fight a week ago, but has 6 fights unbeatean. Stepthn took the first, Dna the second, the thrid was swaying backwards and forth, with Stephen's expereince showing in the last 20 secs as he pressed forward and took Dan's leg away right at the death. Very good fight.
Thanks to everyone who supported an helped out, in Particular the late notice lads who had to travel on a Friday to fight.
This was a joint venture with a local Rotary Club and was done mainly in an effort to "get in" with the Rotary. I'm waiting for some feedback, could lead to bigger things for the whole Muay Thai community
Nice one sounds like a good show
photos?
saw basil @ ringside, i took a few will post later
the judges decision on the girl fight was very poor you CAN NOT win a Muaythai fight by running away.

Great night's enterainment, good atmosphere and good fights.
I'll have the full set of pictures on the GFC website (hopefully) by the end of the week. I'll post here when I've done it.
Nice pics Basil :)
Darren thank you for the oppotunity to fight on your show it was a good evening with some good fights and great atmosphere. And the few rotary club members I spoke to after the fights were very interested in Muay Thai and expressed interest in seeing another show .
kirsty was from Prestwich,not Darlington
Spoke to the Rotary Club today who were very impressed withthe whole show. Not just the professional way we did it, the figths, the standard of skill, but also the sportsmanship
The country needs more events like these, nice and low key for the novices to come through, in front of people with dosh, all in favour of a good cause
great photos mr basille, and regarding desc;
with the ladies fight was all correct from what i saw, and the fight was close,i think it was a majority desc; Jo from Leeds and off Ax, had a lot of trouble first round but staunched forward and came back, but the knees in the last round decided the fight imo
Jo was tough and came to fight. The girl from prestwich kirsty, was hitting and moving, thats not running, and as i mentioned the knees scored well as they all landed and with force to put the scorecards that way.
credit to both girls as it was a great fight
Bollocks, yeah she had loads of trouble pinsinchai, especially when jo dropped her on her backside but the girl didnt recieve an 8 count, and then chased her round the ring whacking her head back with pretty much every shot she threw at her, the only success the girl had was in the clinch and even the jo pretty much matched her knee for knee, the desicion was a joke, if the fight would have been in thailand the girl would have been told to get out of the ring for not defending herself. No disrespect meant to jo's opponent what so ever nut the judges where clearly watching a different fight to everyone else, (who all thought jo won the fight) Good well run show Daz and some good little fights on was a great atmoshpere.
Looks like a nice little show i can only see big things for gfc in the future.
true there is a big thing at the minute about trying to improve judging and get it more like thailand.......in thailand you can not RUN AWAY it was not hitting and moving the shots had no effect what so ever as she was moving when she threw most of them. as andy said ive seen fights in thailand where the fighter has been sent from the ring for "hitting and moving" or running. the knees were matched in the last round and jo dropped the girl with a right in the 1st. this decision doesnt matter that much as both girls are basically novices and are making there way up, but it still does happen on big fights which needs a look at.
apart from that it was a very nice little show nice venue too. nice one daz
I hear the judging stank what was going on? Ive seen this girl from badco get a bad decision against her in the past im sure of it. Only positive thing is to think like my coach told me to think, these people who get the JD on novice fights end up worse off as they will never win at a higher level whereas the fighters who come off worse on the small shows with the crap judges will come up trumps in the end on a big show with top judges.
was the oppo a sitnarong thing? i see a lot of hop skip jump there
There was only one dubious decision on the show. I haven't watched the video yet so I can't comment.
There is a problem with judges in this country, I was discussing this before the fights started. I found it difficult to get the judges I originally wanted, nothing else to say on the matter. I've spoken to teh people that matter in private.
Jo's only had two fights, she won her first won on my show in May Last year
one duboius descision, who was the judges? and possibly if its not in tThailand? and it was a 3 rounder, then it cant be judged as in Thailand as they only fight 5
has this ever been thought about?
the difference between judging 3 and 5 rouders has been discussed before, but the critera has to stay the same, otherwise whats the point. there is a "school of thought " that all fights should be five rounds, not sure on that but would certainly allow the nore technical fighters to prevail
judges were sandy Holt,, Mike Duffy and Nigel Ashton
I've only just picked up this thread as I have been away. I judged the fight and scored it a draw which means Sandy and Mick gave it to the red corner. And the reason I did that is although the Bad company girl was walking forward and yes the other girl was going back but when she was she was fighting and her knees where better in the clinch and I cant remeber the Bad company girl getting any clean shot on the red corners face with the boxing (I may change my mind if I was to se the video). and in 6 mins of fighting if you was asking me to see a winner on the evidence I saw I couldn't pick one. Judge it like Thailand everyone says well make it 5 rounds and that will give 15 minutes of fighting to find an overall winner rather than have to split someone over 6 mins. I haven't seen a video but from what I can remember the girl in the red corner was a bit better on moving and overall technique and had she stood there a bit more she would have won the fight on my score card.
I aint having a big debate about it the facts are I saw it how I saw it like every referee and judge in any sport in any country they have an opinion. We are not in Thailand and me personally I dont think the girl in the red corner should have won it a draw at best!! Red corner scored for better knees and bad company scored for moving forward but her attacks where not quite as good Hense DRAW in my eyes!
Good post, well written and observed.
And as memory server me i know the above gent( Mr N Ashton ) and Mr Sholt both did the Tony Myers Judgeing course @ the Bad company Richard smiths gym in leeds.
Not sure about mr Mike Duffy, but not heard any bad comments either.
So i guess it was a fair result, No sour grapes BC boys.
like i said it dont really matter as jo is still a novice she will only learn from it.
when you see the video you will see different NIge, youre the only judge who gave a decent decision we would have taken a draw as a fair result, but there is no way on earth that jo lost the fight, i wouldve expected a better decision from Sandy as he has spent so much time in Thailand before. Oh 1 thing though Nige, no clean head shots landed??? Come on she got her head rocked silly every round and got dropped and deserved a count, yes jo was a bit wild with her punches and in the 2nd round did get knee'd a fair bit but after that she matched her in the clinch, as pointed out before effectivness wins a fight and you can't be effective running away and landed little tapping low kicks with youre foot as jos opponent was. But what the hey you live and learnand jo enjoyed the fight and it was a crowd pleaser and thats all that mattes. Good little show though as ive said.
Well you know what the promoter in me says:-
Let's do it again
i dbe happy to view the tape and display my card online for shit and giggles
i saw the score sheets
it was one point on mr Duffy and Holts score cards
thats a close call
Not a bad one as suggested
p.s. yes make for a great re-match, and need more ladies fights as both girls got great potential
globalbretheren were you there or are you sandy holt using someones password again
global whatever is proving to be abit of a mystry
I thought I knew who it was, tehn I thought it was Sandy, now if you look at the judging thread, it's not him either
Maybe it's a few people
One things for sure, he hasn't seen the score cards!
It might not be Sandy but you can bet it is somebody he has been canvassing to write it for him. I bet they have 300 car stickers outside their house.haha. I think on the night both Sandy and Mick got it wrong. I was the 3rd judge so I'm in a better postion to say that more than most. Maybe Sandy or Mick cant except it may be a wrong choice for a particular fight but I will say it again the bad girl company girl definately didn't win it either and as Andy BC said they would have taken a draw all night long so they got one. Off me anyway.
