K-1 try outs - New Zealand

Hi All, to let you know K-1 Japan have recently been in New Zealand and have asked us to run a series of K-1 Try outs Events, the first of which will take place the week before the Grand Prix event in Auckland in March.

K-1 Japan Representitives plus Fuji TV will be there to look for fresh heavy weight talent for the K-1 circut.

I'm going to be managing the event - So if you are interested or have a fighter with potential please call me on 021 608 904 for more information.

I'll psot more details when they are finalised.

Hi Mike

I feel it is a great thing that K1 Japan and yourself are doing for the future of the sport. Many guys could have the chance to make their dreams come true through an event like this. Having a qualifier in New Zealand also shows that K1 is taking considerable notice of the Kiwi breed of fighters. Not only the current stars fighters of today but in the future also.
Wishing you the best of luck with the promotion and any of the guys who are going to enter, good luck.

Richie,

K-1 Try-outs have been held through out the world to uncover new talent - who will still have to go through the elimination process - but the point is that they are uncovered, given that opportunity and exposed to Japan.

Try outs will consist of:

Fitness Testing
Explosive Power Testing
Speed and Reaction Testing
Technique assessment
Sparring

Among a few other things

Some may not be ready yet to step into a Regional event but may have their potential recognised early and given early direction and observed as they progress through the ranks ...

Hey Lightning.....
you are naive to think that K1 would make an exceptional talent and/or world class "freak" go through the "elimination process" to qualify for Japan.
They will simply take someone if they want them. End of story.
Fuji is there to cover the tryouts for an extra story. Whether this goes to air is another question.
I will say this though. Their latest ratings (Dynamite) sggest that they do need to find someone quick!!! 14% compared with 40% when Bob and Akebono fought. You work it out....

The try outs are an opportunity for athletes to expose themselves to K-1.

No doubt K-1 will provide opportunities for an "exceptional talent" but that doesn't nessessarily circumnavigate the elimination process - particularly with a grand prix event now in NZ.

Those with potential will recieve opportunties within the Oceania Circut ... in the unlikely event of "a world class freak" - the past would suggest they would get opportunties for super fights outside that process... But even Bob has had to qualify through K-1 Japan and Choi through Korea last year.

Either way its a win win for athletes choosing to take part.

Whether Fuji shows the try outs depends very much on editorial discretion and too be honest whether someone exceptional appears. It is likley to be a part of the footage though given NZ is a new venue for Japanese Audiences. Regardless it will be seen by K-1, as well as K-1 representives being present at the try outs.

Good points though.

LOL Aaron you are a cynic - Its not at all, several trainers from around the country are bringing their boys along.

Its a K-1 Japan talent scouting venture - similar to waht they have done in the US and will be doing in other countries.

Hi guys unfortunately the try outs have had to be cancelled due to lack on resposne - only 11 people in total including three from Australia.

Its a bit sad there wasn't more repsonse - I have had to cancel the TV sessions with Fuji and local tv coverage. You so often get people saying they want to have a chance to get noticed - well this was it with top K-1 Execs from Japan attending as well as the TV coverage.

Perhaps we should have publicised it more - if any one has any suggestions they are welcome to post them. And to those guys who have emailed me in the past week enquiring - my apologies for not getting back to you while we were deciding whether to proceed - I'll bee replying shortly individually.

Anyway lets look forward to a great tournament and a Kiwi victory.
