Obviously, this means Kingi is out of jail (or never went in). We gotta know the scoop... I mean good news.

For those that don't know the background. Paul got in an argument with his uncle. It got heated and he took a swipe. It turned tragic that his uncle died and Paul was charged with manslaughter.

Its great to see Toa back in the big circut.

Peter Graham and Andrew Peck sounds like a cracker.
Doug and Matt, boxer versus puncher.
Jason and Ben, on paper this could be an easy fight to pick but these two guys have the biggest hearts in the circut.
Big Ruben and Peter Sampson would most probly be fought totally at range, shot for shot. Hopefully it wont be the nursery rhyme I imagine.
Daniel and Leamy, I dont know Leamy but am interested to find out.
Godzilla and McKinnon would be a nice fight too, David Vs Goliath.

All up, looks like a cool show.

Hello Everyone

Great looking lineup and with regards to Paul Kingi, he was seen at a few previous promotions in and around NZ. It should be a great matchup against Djamal. I'm sure NZ and rest of OCNA will be looking forward to seing Paul in action. Well done Dixon!!!

Hopefully Steve Mck is A OK when he arrives for round2, and shows no ill effects from the carnage fight few days ago. He's a tough guy and i'm sure Chris is in for a fight of his life.

The Chief is upto his usual winning ways and should have a slight advantage over the powerhouse, but who knows: great matchup.

Doug Vicious V Matt Samoa: Be a good chance for Matt to bounce back or Doug to get another wi under his belt. He's been training hard and looks to be in fine trim.

Jason Suttie should have another good outing and take it to bangin Ben'. Bens got heart, but Jasons skill and new and improved training should will be a huge advantage.

Daniel Tai V Leamy , the ex-league player: described as a mike tyson like fighter. To be honest, a bit of the unknown. This could very well be the fight of the night, and see these guys go hammer and tong. Bets anyone?

Big test for Peter Sampson to build on his impressive debut, and that comes up against a mountain called Reuben De Jong. Rueben will be looking for a KO, but the "Punisher" is very skillful. Should be another interesting fight. A win for Sampson will make him leave a firm marker on the K-1 field.

ROGUE MAGAZINE will be there to cover this great event, in living colour.

Good luck to all fighters and an injury free build up. Watch out for the full coverage and commentary of the round 1 K-1 kings of OCNA on the first issue of ROGUE MAGAZINE, coming to stands near you on the 28th of AUGUST!!!

Hello Everyone...

This round should see more KO's, as round one only gave 2 fighters maximum points (3 each). So everyone else will be keen to make for lost ground, and expect some exlosive matchups. Be interesting to see whether most fights go the distance. It could, unless we see a fair few draws, and in to a few extensions.

Leamy sounds like a solid punching "in-fighter", according to Rex. Just like "Tyson" who likes to get in use those devastating hands and punching power. Could surprise a lot of people. We shall see soon enough.

There has been a change of opponent for Paul Kingi it is now Pauli from ETK this match up should be a great brawl as they are both big guys with similar styles. There is also an undrcard scheduled for 2 new commers in the game Jason Retti from ETK formerly from a Tae Kwon Do background and Carl Durham from Shaolin Kempo. Both will be fighting under K-1 Rules.

guys i dont wana build leamy up to much- he is just a solid islander who knows how to train hard and has no where near the experience of tai but he is dead keen to break into k1- unfortunatly he hasnt had any build up fights but his sparring partners have been top quality (greg wenick nz amatuer heavy weight champion boxing, gareth lewis nz title holder) so he should be fine- his first two years will be nothing but learning experiences no matter who he fights.

Shame about big Pauli, he must be gutted. Would have been a great opportunity for him. I think it would have been his second fight, if not mistaken. Sio will be a more than adequate replacement. Should be toe to toe.

Leonard V Jan : hopefully the S-1 super fight doesnt take too much out of Leonard. Two fights in three weeks is nothing new for him. Shoule be a great matchup.

Good luck to all fighters, and an injury free buildup.

What was the deal with that one, was his thunb injured or was his whole hand injured and how bad was the injury . was it a broken thumb? if it was it might cause him a little grief when he blocks one of jans high kicks and wears it on his hand.

Lol will cause him grief wether his hand is injured or not.

bring on the s1, after watching the show the other night, the s1 should have come out before k1 come to nz, instead of the carry on the k1 is bringing, with the bob sapp saga and now superleague with their carry on with purses not being paid. the athletes are conditioned and primed to win, not like the big slow heavyweights in oceania with samoa, tutaki and karena to name a few. so lets go s1 and take over the oceania region and bring on the max fighters and jordan tai.

Leonards right thumb was swollen and we were trying to figure if it was broken or dislocated but he was moving it so i think it was just dislocated. It happened during the 2nd round.

Aaron is fighting Jan on October 7th on Kio's show.

Doug Viney v Matt Samoa
Jason Suttie v Simi Tai
Reuben De Jong v Peter Sampson
Daniel Tai v Leamy Tato
Chris Chrisopoulides v Felise Leniu
Peter Graham v Andrew Peck
Jan Antolik v TBC
Undercard
Karl Derham v Jason Retti

Unfortunately the legal team of Paul Kingi have requested that he stand down for this event due to the crown trying to prosicute him a a World Champion fighter which is a load of rubbish never the less his presence back in the ring could be detremental for his case in early October. Hopefully we can have him in November. Ben Edwards has family issues and we wish him all the best and looking forward to seeing him back. Steve McKinnon has been ill since his bout with Nathan Corbett and Leonard broke his thumd during his bout with Aaron Boyes. On a good note although a tough task for the new guys its an oppertuniy for potentially new blood.

We are so lucky to have K-1 free to air, Dixon has provided us with this avenue ...he (Dixon) is also giving up and coming fighters a chance to test themselves on a big event. Big Ups to Dixon, if it wasn't for this man we wouldn't have K-1 in New Zealand, nor would our fighters have the excellent exposure they now have.

P.S. If you have nothing positive or constructive to say then it's probably best to say nothing, we need our sport to grow not perish.

yeah yeah yeah, i thought k1 oceania was for the best fighters in oceania, before you had to qualify through k1 new zealand and to beat these top fighters in nz to get to oceania, and last year or the year before we got the top fighters from nz and oz to fight, and now we got names of nobodies who are fighting on the k1, hell i might as well go down to MacDonalds and ask Ronald if he wants to fight on it.. yeah stu you will say that cos it is your student fighting. whats going to happen when he gets minced up by jason, how is that going to look. make jason look better, or make the sport go backwards because of this. Im a new S1 fan now after last week.. whats happening to paula, mckinnon and the rest who was there in the first round. good to see daniel tai back.

I like the new blood, it adds interest and challenge. You asked about Pola, wasnt he new at one point?

Best example I can think of is Mark Hunt. He was new and didnt have a hope in hell of winning the first round in Oceania right. Yet he took out the world!

I met one of Stu's fighters a little while ago, tall Dolph Lundren type fella (didnt get his name) and have also spoken to Sam Tusa a few times. These guys were full of passion and passon is a display of heart. Heart is what makes champions.

Hey Bugs I cant understand how you can call someone who step into the ring for 3x3 minute rounds with some of the best kickboxers in Oceania? A nobody?
It takes balls for all there guys to get in there and especially for the newer fighters that have been given such short notcie
There guys are somebodies and I wish them all the best!

At this point in time there is very few top Heavyweight being produced in New Zealand.
But there are Quite afew lower tier Heavyweights around such as Leamy, Semi & Felise just to name afew & if we were to wait until they all got to the standard of Jason Suttie & Peter Graham & the likes befor they got a try-in at K-1 then there would not be any K-1 fights.

As the saying Goes...You have to crack a few eggs to make an Ommlett.
These guys might start of as Scrammbled Eggs but given time may end up being the ommlett.

So let's give them a chance. hey, Lets face it, You gotta be passionate if your willing to take punnishment of the likes of Jason & Big Cris so you can have a shot at K-1. I know i would'nt be that passionate.

So...Leamy, Semi & Felise if you reading this...Good luck, Go hard, You got nothin to loss & everything to Win.

To answer your question Bugs, Pola is in Europe training, Steve McKinnon has been ill since the Carnage fight not to mention he copped 28 stitches from that bout and a family member of Ben Edwards may be on their last legs. So we shop around as to who is next in line and as everyone has said You have to give them credit for stepping up to the plate. As a promoter we either develop a new star or we dont. But one thing is for sure beating a top fighter is a great accomplishment but the key is to win consistently against top fighters for Simi, Felise and Leamy their chance starts next week. Throw me some names from Oceania who you think should be there and I will guarentee that we have either contacted them or they have not accepted it. Hope this clears your confusion and as I said dont be a tight arse and buy a ticket.

I was a big fan of pola who was the next big thing, well where is he now.. I had a look at the thread with who was fighting in the last show in oceania.. wheres the teeman, is he away in japan too, and wheres sid asiata is he in japan, and karena, auimatagi, Damn its a pity Paul King not fighting.. go daniel tai

Hello Everyone

Correct me if I am wrong, but Felisie Leniu had a fight with the Tee-man Hiriwa in Sydney? I do recall the Teeman mentionoing this name to me a while back on the eve of the K-1 first leg in Auckland. If anyone knows, let us know.

Jan V Charles .... I'm assuming @ 78 kg or there-bouts.....

Rueben De Jong V Peter Sampson..... Peter seems to have found an equal sized sparring partner in his brother. He mentioned this to me on the night of the S-1. It will be an interesting fight, this one. Reuben will be looking for a win, very much by a KO. Sampson will be up for it though, and we very well could see the fight of the night, and some seriously big shots traded which could bring about a swift finish...or will it?

79 Kg it is, because I believe 78 is the class Jan usually fights, and Leonard Sitpholek was going to fight @ 78kg until he broke his hand.

Scottya, thanks for that info.... my faint memory was correct. He did fight Leniu in an MMA fight. So there you go, Leniu will be in no way an easy beat. Im sure he's going to put on a show worthy of his presence.I'm sure Godzilla will have a big task ahead with this guy.

Saturday night should be entertaining, despite the lack of the known names. Whichever way, we will see some KO's, thats for sure. Most of the guys will be looking to make up maximum points (3 for a KO win, 2 for decision).

Rex, good luck to you and your fighter. We wish your camp all the best, and the same for everyone else. I should have a brief writeup and some comments from the fighters from the press conference tomorrow, evening.

Predictions anyone....??? I'm going for at least 3 KO's and a unforgettable fight between Charles and Jan. Absolute carnage!!! And oh yeah, a huge upset could be on the cards. Who ??? I dont know, too close to call.

What Time & Where is the press conferance today???

Hello Everyone

Was unfortunately held up today so i missed the press conference which was at sky-city, but for my fortune got the chance to chat with two of the newcomers to K-1 tomorrow. They were none other than Leamy Tato ( a very very solid 95 kg!!!) who looked more like 105 kg to me, and i kid you not. Plus a quietly smiling and beaming Simi Tai.Both these fighters look very solid and looks like they'll be out to show everyone what they can do. Stern tests first up, but i have no doubt their space tomorrow is deserved.

Both these guys looked relaxed and looking forward to fighting tomorrow.

According to Leamy's trainer, Stu Chambers he is fully rounded fighter with good, strike power and a good defensive game. "He's real solid with a good all-round game, and strong chin.."adding "Im quietly confident...". There seems to be a strong self belief in the camp.

Simi has a monumental task taking on the one and only "Psycho" Jason Suttie.
"I'm going to have a great fight...yeah", Whatever the result it looks set to entertain.Plus i have a very strong feeling that tomorrow may be the birth of a new star (or two)...

Watch out for the Doug Winey Vs Matt Samoa clash. Matt when on his game can be lethal. Doug is looking a cracking 100%, and should put on a great show for the crowd. Matt will be keen to make up for some lost ground and pick up the points, prefrably maximum!!! Going to be a cruncher.

Good job dixon n bringing these guys to the lime-light, NZ is never short of fighters who want to step up and get amongst it. So everyone, lets sit back and enjoy some big time fireworks!!!!

Thanks to Stu for taking time out to chat, absolute gentleman.

Best of luck to all fighters, chok dee!!!

see what i mean, this is a big joke..excuses excuses.. paula, mckinnon, edwards, tearangi, all being replaced by nobodies.. the S1 the other night had a great fightcard, k1 are always changing.. why go to a show with nobodies when we can just stay at home and watch it.. i thought k1 in oceania was for the best fighters in the region

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree with your last comment there, but circumstances change, and so must arrangements.
However, not so long ago, we saw the same blokes, K1 event after K1 event, and it got to be who is fighting who AGAIN. I got bored (and i mean no offense to anyone participating) NOW, we have variety, new blood, the air of unknown expectation......... OK so some of the guys arent "names", but mate, what are the promoters to do? Would you be all understanding if dixon got on here and said "Sorry folks, half of the fighters cant make it for whatever reasons so I'm going to pull the show" I bet you'd be pissed and then start asking where the heart is, where the young fellas are.......

Give it up and just watch the show tomorrow, if it's shithouse then bleat on then, but give these blokes a chance first aye.

What a night of fights!!!
It was all on, and my pre-show predictions were seemingly spot on.
We had a huge upset, and 4 KO's(TKO) and Peter Sampson had probably the biggest win against the biggest opponent in the OCNA K-1 circuit. Well done Dixon and everyone desevred their space!!! All doubters have been laid to rest, no questions!!!

Fights in brief:

Undercard saw....

ETK's Jason Retti take a 3rd round KO via a spinning back fist, which flattened a fiesty Karl Derham.
Great opening fight which set the tone for the night... KO's....and big big shots....
Retti impressed for his second fight, and give us more of this guy!!!

Fight 1:

Debutant Leamy Tato (ex-junior kiwi rep) who looked a mirror image (fighting style) of Mike Tyson in Sinister Black trunks started the upsets with a unanimous win over veteran Daniel Tai. Big win first up and Tai, who looked a bit out of shape, was gassed.Great handy work by Tato, and Tai copped some big, short and stinging punches.

Fight 2:

The upset of the night with debutant Felise Leniu caught Godzilla Chris Chrisopholides with a herculean right, dropped the aussie flat who attempted a flying knee. He looked jaded and after chatting with him after the fight, he conceded that he got caught by a vicious right-ALTHOUGH he did dispute the stoppage. South Auckland star has been found. There you go.... is Leniu the next Mark Hunt? The over-hand right.... watch out!!!

Fight 3:

Doug Viney won another unaniomous points win over a sluggish Matt Samoa. I must say, Dougies movements and hand work reminded me of Rocky Balboa in the movie, except of course Doug is for real. He used the left hook very well, and although Samoa rocked Doug with a big knee to the face of Viney, lacked the gas to finish off. Great win for Doug, easily the best boxing technique in the comp. Samoa witha 30kg advantage looked a bit shoddy, slipping big time
attempting high kicks. Better luck next time?? we shall see.

Fight 4:

Jan Antholic won A POINTS DEC. Vs a heavier than usual Charles August. Jan for me was the most impressive and technical fighter. Great super fight with Charles being guilty of trying to catch and throw, being warned by the ref several times. Jan nailed some heavy inside thigh kicks and beautiful punch combos. August attempted a Mike Zamidis like Flying Knee, but all it found was rope. Watch out for Jan.... a force to be reckoned in the new 76 Kg Kings cup class in Thailand perhaps... Fight of the night!!!

Fight 5:

The Big-bad Rueben De Jong was stopped via TKO, courtsey of a brutally well executed low kick by The punisher, Pete Sampson. Pete fought a very smart, relaxed fight tenderising the big mans front thigh. Perhaps a bit guilty of trying too many pre-meditated spinning back kicks. However, his perp seems to have paid off as he stopped the slower than usual giant. Sampson is firmly on the map!!! Good show. Reuben had to be helped out of the ropes.

Fight 6:

With Ex-K1 Champ Nicholas Petas in his corner a pumped and very appreciative "chief" Peter Graham, made quick work of Andrew Peck. He stared slow but was merciless in the 2nd and fellled the pecker with some devastating body shots. Chief has max points now. 2KO's with 6 pts!!!
He looks the goods, and his move to Japan has paid off big time.

Fight 7:

The one and only "Psycho" Jaosn Suttie, danced and dazzled to earn a breezy TKO vs another debutant Simi Tai. A crunching low kick, ended the duel with simi unable to put decent weight on his leg. Good show by Simi, and Jason used all his experience to systematically break his opponent down, although he threw some nice handy work early on. Good experience for Simi, and he'll be better off. As for Jason, comprehensive win as predicted.

So there you go.....

Good crowd in for what was a very entertaining show.... well done Dixon.
Great to see these newcomers step up to the plate and give the crowd what they deserved. All doubters be laid to rest....

Cheers and Thanks

ok I eat my words..BUT I thought Daniel Tai was definately out of shape which made the new guy look good and if we had a very fit Daniel Tai he couldve taken it, but a wins a win, and my man tai took some great shots from the new boy,I thought tieman or asiata wouldve cleaned him up.

the mark hunt lenau got a strong punch which dropped godzilla, but I thought the ref was a bit quick to react and not put the 8 count on him, cant remember his name.
as for the other new boy...haaa.. jase showed him how to fight like a classy fighter should.

I thought peter sampson showed strongman de bong who was really the strongest man in nz.

Andrew peck looked fearsome until he got a few lessons in belly dancing from the chief.

doug fought a good fight but samoa he should keep off those wendys burgers, or ronald will be in their next to take his place. if we have a fit samoa, he will be a strong fighter with one lucky punch, i think it was godzilla he koed a few years back, and i think paula too he koed. vicious

I guess it was a good night, I even jumped out of my seat yelling for Godzilla to get up, and if you saw a person with a wooly orange beanie in the crowd, that was me, so yes mcgyver i did get a ticket after all, and enjoyed the new breed. now im going back to bed as i had a late night as you all know, and watch the S-1.

its good to see where your loyalty's are boa rouge (etk) but your a little one sided for the editor of a magazine and bugs well your just one of those arm chair critics that hasnt got a clue. you must be somewhat retarded or just stupid as your spelling resembles a 5 year olds( might want to tidy this up before running your mouth)

i thought all the fights were good and if any one can step into the ring or any fight with these guys with A: no experience and B: little time to prepare then you got my respect!

i think alot of these new up and coming guys have to much presure to perform eg reuben dejong he was expected to K.O pete in the first round.
ithought he looked very unsettled and not as fast as he was with jason.
with only 3 fights under his belt in this feild i think its all good experience.
not to many people have there first ever fight with one of the best fighters in front of a televised crowd(with jason)
pete samson fought very well and did his homework he is a very talented fighter and will do well.
it will be intresting to see paul kingi step back in the ring and see how the presure to perform will affect him as he is a former strong man also.
we have some very talented fighters and the future outlook is a good one if we can groom these fighters well and look after them.

dont ride these guys to hard and give them a little respect, for most of us we have no place to judge.

Hey Bugs mate the ref did give big Chris a count, but called it off after looking in his eyes while asking him if he wanted to continue.

Hey Caitlin when did Charles fight at 78? Against who? 72-75 is a much better weight for him I think, he had too much body fat at 78. Normally he turns out in amazing physical condition. He told me after the fight he hadn't been training for a long time and took this on short notice. Be good to see him fight here more, he's really entertaining to watch.
Lightning Mike Angove
Posted: 2006-09-17 17:33:26
Hey guys,

Rebel gave Chris plenty of chance to show he was OK - the full count plus 3-4 seconds of asking for him to walk forward. I think it was a good call.

Big ups for the new comers - and for Rueben too - although hes 140 kilos - he was up against a 115 kilo leg slinger ... not the easiest fight for a novice under any circumstances ... if Pete could get his hands going he could easily become a top line contender.

hey richie hardman,

thats what I meant by the 8 count where he called it off, and tickitty tock your right about that Boa person being one sided.. ( etk).
But where you say not many people hop in the ring with someone of jasons capabilities, I think its damn stupid, forget the experience, end of the day its stupid. what happens if he gets clocked by a psycho punch and gets hurt.

everyones got a hoice and if your offered money and an oppurtunity to do something you enjoy then its a 50/50 choice.
i personally wouldnt get in the ring with jason or any of those guys if i had no experience.
people that do have got a big set of jacobs. reuben did well hes got alot of heart so does simi tai.
at the end of the day k1 is about the next big thing eg poala was picked to be the next ray sefo.
ask jason, peter graham, doug viney and any season pro how long its taken them to get to where there are and theyll all tell you its been a hard road. they have all had to pay there dues so to speak
nothing comes easy in this game especilly respect.
all we can do as fans of the sport is to respect the fighters for what they are and what they do.
thats my opinion anyway.

Posted: 2006-09-17 18:18:50
Bugs bro, Jason is a great puncher but more so a crafty and fast puncher than a power slammer. For a new fighter to step in the ring with someone like Jason with his experiance it is a big ask but also an honor for that fighter. He took a fight on short notice with a world class athlete... personally I think he deserves respect more than concern. Its not just about winning and losing, it is about testing yourself. All of those new guys must be walking around atleast a foot taller than last week knowing that they could mix it with the best in Oceania. I commend all of the guys especially the new ones.

Yeah mate, but overcoming a challenge is a big thing to most fighters. People get hurt in fight sports and some know this only too well but no regrets. Fight sports are seen as dangerous sports but satistically more people get seriously hurt playing rugby and alot more fatalities occur in motor sports.

Regardless what we do in life, at the end of the day would you rather think back and be satisfied knowing that you gave your best against the odds or you just watched as others did their best.

I have a little something I want ask Boa Rouge about the things that you and your magazine have been saying about me.Why do you have to take cheap shots at me on AX and in your magazine?
Boa Rogue
Posted: 2006-10-03 03:29:08
Hi Andrew

Any comments you think were "cheap-shots" would be incorrect. If at all anything written by my colleague/editor on the mag was in jest and taking the mickey out, and in no way a pot shot.It would be silly to take pot shots at fighters of a personal nature, where in which the very we are writing about.

As far as AX andrew, you may be mistaken. As i do short writeups and posts, they are more fight-specific and of technical nature. Will pass your feedback onto my colleague/editor and I will review the overall fight content, if it needs improvement. Stay tuned for the 2nd issue, everyone will be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for your comment- any qualms pls email me, as I am completely open to criticism and respect your feedback.

Cheers and thanks
