Were you snoozing Dale?

No seriously mate, congratulations on a tremendous fight with Brian Aston. It's hard to believe that that was your return fight after such an extended absence and I honestly thought you were going to turn it round after the first knock down but what a battle!

Great fight and congratulations to Brian.

My officail return is not until May 13th on the Leicester show , but the Italian had weight in over the specified weight limit and there was danger of the fight being pulled so i stepped in . Id not foght fought for 3 1/2 yrs, I was a month off a 5 rnd fight so i was no where near up to the level of a 12 rnd fight but you don't turn down a world title shot and id have hated for Brian not to get his shot so i agreed. Felt real comfortable but knew the fitness would be my down fall eventually , i felt i was ahead but pretty much knew by round 10 id not much left on the fuel tank but refuse to go down without a fight ... no dissrespect to Brian bit the shots werent did so much effect my but my legs wouldn't hold hence me cursing on my way down lol ... enjoyed stepping back in though "got the buzz back big time"

Hard luck to Lee ! i have no doubt he'll come back stronger he's made of good stuff !!

lol........"no dissrespect to Brian bit the shots werent did so much effect my but my legs wouldn't hold".......reading that back maybe the shots did effect me and it wasnt the fitness after all .. lol

LOL ... punch drunk or what. Oh and thanks for the demo in mid round horizontal defence - Lee took your cue no problem just 9 rounds earlier!

You're right though Dale, the experience has been good for him and he's 100% positive this morning. Can't wait for a rematch and no disrespect to Mick Crossland but I'd still put money on Lee for the return bout.

Meanwhile here's a coupls of shots from your fight ...

From what i seen of it, pretty good night of action.
Despite promoter showsport being let down on every level by the Italian team, pull outs, no shows, over weight, failed medicals replacements were found and put in a good account of themselves for the most part.

Mr Dale Wood........ all i can say mate is that you have one of the biggest hearts in the sport after what can only be described as a World class effort.
You surpassed most peoples expectations, taking the fight at only 22 hours notice.
3 1/2 years out of the ring and probably only 50% fit because you were 5 weeks away from your 5 round comeback fight. You turned in a blinder having Brian hurt in the first and you were ahead on all three scorecards going into the 10th where your body could carry you no more.
If that is a ring rusty, out of shape Dale Wood all I can say is one word.............................. REMATCH!
Taking nothing away from Brian Aston because he is a great guy and thoroughly deserves his success but there is definitely unfinished business between the two of you and I think alot of people would want to see that again.
I have nothing but respect for you my friend and I and all of USKA salute you on a fantastic effort.

Congratulations also to my own Qasim 'The Dream' Nisar winning the ISKA European Amateur title by Unanimous decision winning every round on the cards. Not a bad performance and good to go the five rounds again.
It was good experience also having to deal with a damaged hand mid fight and having to make the adjustments needed to still walk away a winner. As always really proud of you mate.
Onwards and upwards now to the next fight!

Following through on Neils point and congratulations must go to the show promoter Paul Hennessy who did an amazing job finding creditable last minute replacements for an oherwise decimated fight card.

Commiserations must also go to Paul for having funded the Italians UK mini break - totally shameful. Especially when having been given the opportunity to fight for 2 World titles, an Amateur European and Prestige bout against the calabre of Fran Zuccala.

I would echo all of that.

Dale put in the very bravest of performances and it was a shame that he could not last the last 3 rounds.

To anyone who is thinking of entering the ring, that should have been a true inspiration. To take a fight at 22 hours notice and perform like that just surpassed all expectations.

Hats off to brian aston to who played his part in what was the most entertaining fight i have seen for ages. Like we were saying at the start, this was a great pairing. you could tell by the crowd reaction that they knew just how good a fight they had witnessed

There just has to be a rematch!

Too late for a stand-in Carl. The fight was called off after a medical where the Italian was found to have a chest infection. Fran looked gutted.

gutted for Fran. Well Done to Paul for managing to salvage a show. Thanks Mark for results. Wouldn't mind details on the Italians so that none of us ever use them again (info in private or public, makes no difference). Thanks

Frans fight got called off as the Italian saw the doctor for his medical at about 5.00pm, just as Fran had got there.

I beleive that the other Italian who was supposed to fight Brian Aston weighed in to heavy. This is a world title for heavons sake!!

How on earth the show went ahead i will never know, but it did and was a success to, mainly thanks to Dales efforts in taking part in that great fight.

When i left, i was sure i heard the Italians still asking for money for turning up, could not believe my ears!

I'd like to thank Paul Hennessey, and Lee for the opportunity to fight on a cracking card.

Congratulations to all who took part but Dale Wood definately needs a special mention. Absolutely sterling effort mate to fight the way you did in such extreme circumstamces is nothing short of heroic. Amazing mate, well done.

Brian Aston vs Dale Wood 2 anyone???
