HATTON MAYWEATHER

Just like to see some of your guys opinions about tyis fight has hatton got a chance of winning, the vinster seams pretty clued up on his boxing, what do you think mate, i really really hope hatton smashes him and honestly believe if anyone has the style to do it it is his but i hope it is at 140 lbs. My old man spoke to billy greaham and he said they were willing to fight him at 147 if thats the only way of getting him but after collazzo i think that would be dodgy. also calzaghy and kesler? two great fights for british boxing in november.

I love Hatton but I think PBF may be too quick for him.
Would love it if Hatton won though.

I'd like to see hatton fight witter first. If he fights mayweather it HAS to be at 63.5kg, if its at 67kg i think he'll struggle. Cant wait for the calzaghe V Kessler fight, im hoping to go see that, anyone know where i get the tickets? Id also like to see khan V thaxton too, that would be another all british "superfight"

it dont matter what weight its at mayweather is a blown up super feather and aint big at all.....dint he weigh 67 against de la hoya then come back exactly the same weight on the day of the fight!!!!! if Delahoya couldnt do it i dont see hatton doing it! i see him gettin cut to ribbons trying to walk through the punches!
Mayweather acts a bit mental but he is class and in another league to every one....hes like the seanchai of boxing!

Hattons stronger than Gatti by miles, look at Castillo and PBF first fight?
Mayweather not getting younger and speed goes after a while,Floyd would leg it like he did with Oscar which was a wank fight x x
Lee Jones Jr
Posted: 2007-07-17 16:53:08
vinny - like it or not, floyd won, as he would against hatton.
yes hatton beat castillo easily and mayweather struggled with him in the first fight, but they fought two very different versions of castillo. hatton boxed a very very shopworn fighter indeed.
vinny
Posted: 2007-07-17 17:12:05
Like it or not Hattons got a better chance than the rest,Castillo was shop worn but look at the pressure styles Hattons stronger, bigger and faster than a prime Castillo who gave Mayweather fits in the first fight, why would,nt Mayweather box Margarito for 8 million??? styles make fights and Hatton has the style to beat am not saying he will but if its anyone with the style to do it its Ricky.
Lee Jones Jr
Posted: 2007-07-17 17:27:32
trouble is vinny, the flipside to that coin is that if anyone is going to beat hatton (who by the way is definately on the slide) it is a slicker faster more technical boxer, say, oh i dont know....mayweather?

dont get me wrong son im not argueing with you, and i like hatton, i just dont think he has what it takes to beat mayweather.
paulinthailand
Posted: 2007-07-17 22:27:45
hatton (who by the way is definately on the slide)

i think thats a bit harsh lee, he had a couple of not so impressive fights with guys he underated and didnt shine but every time hes had a good opponent he does the bizle, i really think he can bully mayweather into a victory, to beat a skillfull fighter you have to rough them up and hatton can rough up anyone, mayweather would hate not being allowed space and forced beyond his natural fight pace like hatton did to tzyu.

mayweather is shit hot but if they fight in the uk maybe Hatton
has a good chance
FOGGY10
Posted: 2007-07-18 04:09:23
It could just depends on which mayweather turns up,the lazy one which he seems to ov become, or the the we all love to watch.

If its the lazy one he is in alot of trouble from hatton,If its the real mayweather were in for a good fight... i just hope hatton wins and takes that big grin off mayweathers face.

im down with Foggy on this one but we need stone cold statto on the case here.
osta
Posted: 2007-07-18 07:54:01
Awesome fight if it comes off.
Lots of determining factors.
As others have said, what weight they fought at would make a huge difference, Hatton was wobbled badly late on against Collazo up at welter, and throughout the fight he didn't out-strength him like he has done to most at 140.
Despite not even being a big welterweight i don't think Mayweather is physically weak and would by steamrollered either, he rocked De la Hoya with a couple of right hands up at light middle so he could definitely hurt Hatton (if his dodgy hands hold up)
Mayweather's toughness is underated too, he fought the first Castillo fight with bust rib and bad hand, took some hard shots and gutted it out, he wouldn't be looking for a way out against Hatton, he's got too big an ego!
Size of the ring would make a difference too, if Mayweather's got more space to move he'll use it to his advantage.
Also what ref would make a difference. If it's a prick who doesn't let Hatton work in the clinch like he does so well, his main chance of winning is out the window straight away.
Everybody got on Oscars case for fading in that fight a few months ago and not pressing the action but it's not as easy as that, Floyd just shut him down. I thought Oscar could have done more until i rewatched it a few times and saw he was getting hit with some HARD single shots in the late rounds, he wouldn't even commit to a jab cause Floyd was banging him like a he was a Holbeck hooker.
He was having success with the jab early on against Floyd (as did Castillo), but the only punch Hatton doesn't throw with any consistency is the jab.
Foggy is right Mayweather does get lazy sometimes when he sits on the ropes and seemingley gets 'bullied', but i just can't see him letting Hatton stay inside for very long, i think he'd be landing right hands all night as Ricky comes in (without a jab).
I think he'd look to nail him early and make Hatton think twice about moving forward constantly (like Eamon Magee did)

But as Vinny said styles make fights. Hatton could ruff him up, use his awesome footspeed to close the distance and hit Mayweather anywhere to win a close decision.

But as much as i'd love to see Hatton smash the f*ck out of the grinning Yank imbecile, i just can't imagine it happening.
Mayweather TKO late on or points.

Al

i think that would be a nice fight vinny, i think Malignaggi is really under rated when he fought cotto he showed so much balls, people always drop the "oh he coulnt juice a grape with his punch" pisses me off, im sure all world rated boxers can punch a bit, ok hes not super heavy handed but not many are at the mo and their are far greater facets to boxing than the single concusive blow and he shows a lot of them.

FROM BBC WEBSITE:
Hatton could expect thousands of fans to attend his launch
Ricky Hatton is planning a huge public press conference in Manchester to launch his fight with Floyd Mayweather.
Hatton and Mayweather will meet on 8 December, most probably in Las Vegas, in a bout between arguably the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
And Hatton's lawyer Gareth Williams told BBC Sport: "The nature of the bout means it will take place in America, so Ricky wants to say thanks to his fans.
"A public conference, with thousands of Ricky fans present, would be amazing."
The bout, dubbed a modern-day super-fight, looks likely to be staged at the MGM Grand, where Hatton could expect a travelling support in excess of the 10,000 that saw him beat Jose Luis Castillo in Las Vegas in June.
And Williams insists a big turn-out could give Hatton a psychological edge over Mayweather.
I would suggest that Mayweather has under-estimated Hatton and... the impact of his fans
"The press conference at Caesar's Palace (ahead of the Castillo fight) was fantastic and that made a big impact for Ricky," he said.
"Say we got 10,000 Brit fans singing 'Blue Moon' and letting their feelings for Mayweather be known - it would be a perfect way to launch it.
"I've seen quotes from Mayweather saying he will beat Hatton up, but Ricky won't bad-mouth anyone. I would suggest, though, that Mayweather has under-estimated Hatton and he has under-estimated the impact of his fans.
"A public launch of this nature is quite unprecedented and it would be the perfect way to launch what will be an unprecedented fight."

Yeh, Mayweather is a right nob at the US conference. I like how Ricky didn't react, he wants to do the talking in the ring. Saying that, I would have liked him to have done a two legged takedown slam and then smash his face there and then :-)

just got back from the press conference in Manchester (skived off work to go)

It was hilarious and my mate who was watching it on Sky Sports News said they had to cut the sound cause of Hatton's swearing.

Mayweather is an absolute c*unt. Started counting a big wad of money then got up and danced a bit when the crowd were singing "There's only one Ricky Hatton". Hatton said something like "I think you'll all agree if he dances like that on Dancing with the Stars he's got no fucking chance"

Mayweather was then messing about behind the tables. Hatton just said "Floyd can you stop touching my dick you poof".

Hatton also said something like "I've had to spend the week with a fucking six year old"

the picture is from earlier in the week in the US

Mayweather on points or by late stoppage. He's head and shoulders above everyone out there at the minute and while Hatton does have a style that could trouble him a la Duran Leonard 1 i don't think his skin or his body will hold up. I reckon after a cagey opening three rounds Floyd will start to peck away with jabs to head and body and will start to sting hatton with straight and overhand rights. By the 9th Ricky will be tired and beat up but will be able to dig down and make it to the end imho.

And although Floyd would probably be his best at lightweight, don't underestimate his power at 147 as the recent pics ive seen of him he looks really muscular and is obviously growing into the weight.

The keys to what type of fight we will see depend on whether mayweather genuienly intends to come and stand and fight or just pinch it the way he did with De La Hoya and how effective Ricky can be inside. Hatton usually likes to wrestle and manhandle his opponents. The way Floyd fights and because of his guard most opponents struggle to tie him up in close. If hatton can't wrestle and throw him around, a big part of his arsenal is negated. If Hatton can do that i will be impressed and i think he can maybe make it a bit of a dog fight and make things hard for Floyd. Plus you can't rule Haton out as he's such an inteligent fighter and always comes with a brilliant plan, but Mayweather applies on the job problem solving and i think this is one fight where Ricky and the preacher could be outsmarted.

All those quoting Mayweather Castillo 1. Check the tape and check the rematch. Floyd broke his right hand around the 7th and barely threw it for the last 5 yet still nicked the decision and he pretty much schooled Castillo in the return when he had two good hands. Though i do think that Ricky has more firepower and is more explosive than Castillo. He is however more open which doesn't bode well against a sharp shooter like Mayweather?

I am almost weeing my pants in anticipation. The 24/7 show is great. It`s not been like this since Bruno v Tyson 1. We need to savour it, it`s a once every 20 years event.

I CANNOT FOOKING WAIT!

Agree on the 24/7 on sky sports, good insight. Loved this weeks when Ricky was imatating floyds quick punching the mitts whislt not looking, saying "please floyd hit me like you hit them mitts, I will take 100 of them and then give you one of these! WALLOP" Go ricky, I reckon 9th rnd or so ricky will have punched and pressured the gas out of floyd and ref will stop it.

Its on Sky Box Office so you dont need Sky Sports.

I`ve got to go to Edinburgh at half nine the next morning so it will be a setting the alarm for the fight job for me :(

I'll go for Hatton a Hatton win, Mayweather not getting off his stall and using his bad hands as as an excuse.

You wouldn't believe the amount of wrapping on Mayweathers hands and he only tapped the pads and bag for the whole session, his hand speed and movement is fu**ing unbelievable though. And his skipping is out of this world, good job it's not a skipping contest!

To the tune of Sunshine:

You are my Hatton,
My Ricky Hatton,
You beat Castillo,
And Kostya Tzyu
And next Mayweather,
I'll bet a tenner,
that you will knock, that tw*t, out too!

It will be very interesting. When they first met Floyd beat Castillo but it was controversial. This is as close as his come to losing.

I think the referee will play an important part and would be surprised if points were deducted or even worse.

It's a shame the fights at welter, as both boxers could make light-welter. I'm surprised Hatton didn't push for the lighter weight, as his moved back down after not doing too well at welter.

viva las vegas

well boys i got back last friday but have been down south with the gal so no time to tell the jackanory. vegas was wild, a real sin city! the buildings were BIG and lights were bright. on my first day i won a 500 quid roulette and then lost it all and then some. i spent all my money in two days then needed to tap off the old man. I flew out on a wednesday and hatton suport was clear with people singing football choones on the plane(need to change the lyrics, "only one ricky hatton" was boring after the second time of hearing it so you can imagine after 75'000 times was painful), most of the people that were on the plane were scouse or mancs and needless to say i dont think iv ever been anywhere so small with as many fucking stupid people around me! what is the crack with people from liverpool why do they all think they are bombers? the weigh in was ace with over 5000 (mainly english) nutters calling floyd "cash monkey" mayweather a twat which is exactly what he was being. i met and took pics of my old man with fredy roach, bererra, mosely, cotto, hopkins, oscar de la hoya, enzo mac, hearns and heart throb jud law who was sitting 3 seats away from my brother at the fight. ricky fought pretty well but we realised he wasnt going to win after about 4 rounds he was over trying and floyd was too good. when floyd started banging he was hittin hatton with more combos than a kfc menu and had a 40% shots landed score through the whole fight which is unheard of. the first knock down left hook was probably the best timed counterpunch iv ever seen and was so accurate. come the end mayweather was a total gent and came across as a decent bloke its a shame he throws money at the cameras at other times coz it makes him look such a cunt. suppose sport needs a bit of a bad guy and he plays the part well. Even the americans hate him but you cant knock how good he is. he said "ricky hatton is 43-0 but if he had fought 43 mayweathers he would be 0-43" which i thought was propa funny and maybe true. our fans did a good effort and behaved pretty well over there but booing thier national anthem is a fucking disgrace, i was with a few mma mates from vegas and it was fucking embarassing apologising about it, they are way more patriotic than us so made us look like monkies booing them in thier own country. vegas is somewhere you have to go if you get the chance boys. we chartered a helicopter for 3 hours and flew down the grand canyon and all over las vegas strip wich was amazing(never been in one before) and i licked off some a-k47s on a shooting range which was fun too. there are plenty of hot bitches in vegas handing out free drink and my mates say aslong as you stay away from violence it is pretty much impossible to get arrested there, which i think i proved on my first night when i was crawling down las vegas strip on all fours to the bellagio (my hotel) and passed police men and they just asked if i was ok,which i clearly wasnt but they let me carry on on my merry way.

bit long winded but all true
ps i missed ax, good to be back
