Topic:Combat Sports Performance, The Mental Game

I have been working on a workshop on sports performance geared specifically for fighters be it MuayThai, kickboxing, MMA or any combat sport... As it developed and progressed I started to come up with the makings of a course booklet, audio etc breaking down some key areas to the mental game with exercises to accompany and integrate the concepts. Simple applicable techniques, tricks, and stratagies to use in training, in the ring and in daily life to move towards a warrior mind set.

I believe the mind is much more powerful than any of us can ever imagine and there are countless example of how putting it to use with intention and attention has huge effects on our performance potential.

Many people say the fight game is at least 80% mental, some say 90%.. Even at 50% it is enough, in my opinion, to train the mind and use the mind to become the warrior (or really to awaken) the warrior within.

Our limits are mostly mental, even much of our physical limits.

I am curious as to all your thoughts on a product designed to help develop a warriors mind (assuming it is good of course). How many would be interested in such a product? Once completed I would offer it to a few around the world - hopefully mostly Axers - to get feed back and input and if it were found to be positive and beneficial would you be interested in such a product.

Most of what I have seen out there is good but not great, in my opinion.
I am creating a program that will be good (in my opinion) and then getting feed back to modify (no matter how good) and if not great fine tune until feed back is, this totally benefits me from those who try it out.

Let me know if you are interested and feel free to share thoughts on interest in the area and feel free to let me know about any products out there that you have found to be good. If I can't do better than what is out there I won't do it (better is relative to who etc... some people may not want to go as deep or want to approach differently etc

My goal is to have options on the suggested exercises, "homework", drills etc choice to see what works for you to even do and also choice at the depth and speed one wants to approach awakening the warrior mind within.

Any and all feedback is welcome.

One trick you can apply if you want is an "anchor". With the right steps and approach one can set an anchor in minutes. Without this info you can still do it though...

When ever you feel like a million bucks, when you feel strong, positive and feel like you can take on the world (if you never feel like this you will never perform to your potential and it would be worth looking at the mental game) you perform some small simple action (can be anything) like rubbing your fist (so you can do with gloves on) on your ear. What it is doesn't matter, just do it the same way, with intention and attention to why you are doing it and to what it means. Essentially you are setting an anchor to trigger that physical, mental and emotional response to that place. Like Pavolvs dog... every time there was food he rang a bell and after a while the dog associated the ringing bell with food. Soon the bell would ring without food and the dog would salivate.

Once you set the anchor of feeling like you can take on the world, of strength, of feeling positive and great, when you pull the trigger, or rub your ear with your fist, it will help shift your physiology, psychology and emotions to that same place. Do before training, before a fight, between rounds, in a break during the fight etc

You can set it stronger and quicker using specific techniques but simply doing it whenever you feel great with the intention that you will use it as a trigger will work.

(can use this for anything... with your partner when she (or he) is extremely aroused, do one little specific thing (pull on her ear, bite her neck, whatever you want) do at the same time in terms of her arousal state (or while she is orgasming is great). Once you start to set it in you can trigger her to move more towards that state or lets say you were shopping and hit the trigger, she would automatically react in moving into an aroused state - you can also learn to set a volume control and after triggering turn up the volume - believe me it works - I suggest letting her know you are setting a trigger and getting her consent... also it would be good to come to some agreement when to and when not to use the trigger - she may not be too happy in public if you set her off... or she may love it lol)

This is just one of many tricks, combined with concepts, thought process, proper goal setting, and looking at our programming to see if the programs create the warrior we want to be or limit us. Find the programming and learn how to change it if you so choose.

Let me hear your thoughts.

One thing that I will do is have it all proof read and simplified and on topic.. when I type on here I often go on tangents.. its just what comes out. I will keep it all on track as it will be gone over by myself and others that understand the fight game and/or know about the mental game and/or editing etc..

It will be on track and broken down to the point.
Possibly a section in the back with a little more detailed science, experiments and personal experiences etc to back up the concepts that may be looked at if the individual wants but isn't necessary in doing it.

Hey Mark. This all sounds pretty interesting and I'd be happy to guinea pig the work before you broadcast wide. I just finished reading Mind Power by John Kehoe, and will endeavour to apply 5-10mins of mental exercises daily from now on. Suppose to take 1-2 months to kick in though, but it's exciting stuff.

last Sat i worked with 5 guys in an experiment - the theory being that we have the ability, to a large extent to simply see and copy. we used kicks as an example...

i got everyone to kick a few times how they normally do, then demo'd a kick to copy.. then we went and worked on it with NO instruction on kicking and no practice - just mental stuff, including possible blocks...

originally was going to keep it smaller group... more people took more time

then i demo'd a kick and everyone kicked again...

i video'd it all... everyone said they felt their kick was different and over all improved.. looks tome like some results on the tape but want to edit and put each person back to back to see more clearly

without watching more closely i would say results had an improvement on seeing and doing without learning by being taught and practicing... also over all speed, power, balance etc... i asked them to pay attention in training the next week or so and see if they noticed anything

i'll likely post the video footage too

Tom - awesome let us know if you experience results!!
