john douglas for a class

Thanks guys, appreciate your selections, keep them coming!!
C class Jordan Calder
Junior has to be Jordan again after what he did in Thailand at 14. No other junior has did what he has in the last year.
Yep, can`t argue with that Brian! I watched Jordans fight at Bishopbriggs and that performance alone deserves a nomination.
no-ones even close to jordan at junior level in scotland...no-one comes close to rung at A class as he proved against Doolan...also beating cadden, Rob storey this year too should gurantee him the award
Well the votes submitted to date have been compiled and the nominee’s for each category are below. Obviously some fighters have transitioned into different category’s, but this is just the way that it has turned out, so don’t shoot the messenger. The names have been put in alphabetical order, so no preference in the list. Any nominee’s, please get in touch to confirm if you can attend or not.

If I get one more nomination for far balding coach somebodies going to die!!!
my tuppenceworth,,,A- Meikle..... B- Young....C- Downer.... F-Hil...pay attedtion to the spelling of the next two.. F jnr-Amy Pirnie...M jnr- TJ Everret ( gotta be a bit biased ;p )
My opinion (an unqualified one) is
A Class = Rung (Sorry Meikle)
B Class = Tommy Young
C Class = ?
Female = Jojo Calderwood
(I feel like a turncoat because Hil is a good mate of mine but she hasn't had a busy year 2008, Jojo had a couple of good wins including Christi Campbell who everyone knows is a V tough opponent)
Junior Male = Jordan Calder (I'd actually say Jordan for C class fighter also)
Junior Female = Amy Pirnie
A CLASS- Rung
B CLASS- John Douglas
C CLASS- Robin Downer
FEMALE FIGHTER- Joanne Calderwood
FEMALE JR- Caitlin Faulds
MALE JR- Jordan Calder
GRUNTER OF THE YEAR- THE ONE AND ONLY JOHN O'BRIEN
For once big Dougie has got it spot on, couldn't agree more big lad. Every categorie 110% correct.
Hard to say which category jordan should be in cos although he is 15 and still classed as a junior, he hasnt actually fought junior rules but has fought amateur with 12oz gloves, a class, b class and c class this year.
he should be in the little faglet of the century categorie along with you david
ma wee mate john silver fox dick should in with a mega shout for A class fighter or fighter of the year.he was a busy lad with a couple of titles in the swag bag;
Agreed, John has been really busy against some top name guys and been coming out ontop! After John I would say Chris Shaw or Rung.
A lot of the category's are quite close just now, guess everyone has there own opinions and reasons for voting, such as performances, personality, activity or just general bias. So the winners are obviously going to conflict with some opinions, but no matter who wins, at least all the nominated fighters are getting some recognition in the first place and can understand why people have voted for each!
Any coach and official that hasn't voted yet, please do so asap, as voting will soon close as the trophy's have to be finalised.
Congratulations to the STBA for organizing this event . Very important for the unity and development of Muay Thai. IMHO
Great shout by Rab Burt don't know how John Dick got missed seen him a few times this year always great fight's
I think Amy Pirnies 2 golds in the world championships kind of swings the award her way in the junior girls. Try and keep this thread swear free as I know juniors are reading it!!
Simon Audley best looking Scottish fighter/coach of the year! as my aunties, sisters ex husband twice removed, cousins best mate was from glasgow!
p.s. nice to see the closeness you guys have up there like bill said, but if i dont win something its naff idea LOL
A - Rung, Meikle was very close
B - JOhn Douglas withaout a doubt
C - Between Chris ferns and Robin downer
Female - jojo
junior - calder
If there is to be a best looking coach award then it`s me by a country mile. I had to deliberatley go fat and bald to ward of female attention. Has to be said there is`nt much in the way of competition though, unless you count Rab(the body) Burt who is a looker!!!

Scotlands got to be proud of the standard of nominees in the A class section!! Everyone making a name for them self throughout the U.K and abroad and a credit to the sport. I will be announcing the name of trophy sponsors over the weekend!
I concur with all of the above.
What about a recognition award for commitement and promotion of Muy Thai in Scotland.
Clearly, the main camps have a major part to to play in the rapid development over the past 24 months or longer.
However I would put forward that Gary O'Brien has been a major player in the development of Muay Thai in Scotland for some time now.
A pioneer, a gentleman, a risk taker, an underrated tecnician of Muay Thai and a genuine good guy!!! Not many left!!!!
Im happy to say that the A` class fighters award will be sponsored by the Glasgow evening times, the B` class trophy by fighters magazine and I should have sponsors for the others in place by the weekend. Anybody wants to sponsor a trophy can you contact me.
Can I also make it clear that everybody who makes the final nominations will recieve a trophy as there was some confusion over this. The event will be hosted by John Lamb M.C for a very nominal fee.Rab(The body)Burt, will be presenting some of the trophies as will Stevie Sheddon and we have the makings of a good night see you there?
Male fighter A` class John Dick

Is there an echo on here anybody any idea why I put everything up twice??
Is there an echo on here anybody any idea why I put everything up twice?? (This one`s a joke)
i've subbed my nominations to john o'brien...the following are not necessarily on that list, but i would like to express some thoughts...if we're looking at thais in scotland(rung), then are we also looking at scots in thailand? if we are, then far outstripping the rest of the men's A class should be both stevie meikle and sean wright (contender asia) who both had a huge year in thailand.
also, alongside hil and jojo, sarah adams from ally wallace's in edinburgh is a busy, hard working fighter, who is a great role model, and definitely deserves a mention.
one worrying aspect is while there are some awesome female junior fighters, where are the adult female fighters? in terms of aspiration, there should be a a,b,c class section there too, even if the population of female fighter is lower, they should still have representation.
I realise that if trainers don't let the panel know of their fighters exploits, its difficult to guage how they are going to vote, there is a such a combination possible - how many fights, title fights, who they fought etc, so hopefully these are things we can all help improve on what is essentially a good idea for the sport...thanks to john o'brien for getting all this in gear (again). this post is not intended to open cans of worms, i think the whole idea is sound.
Im glad to say that the Young Scot organisation will be sponsoring the junior trophies and will be coming along to interview the winners. This gets the sport more media coverage which I hope benefits us all.
when is the results please

** I know that who ever wins or is nominated, or missed out in each category is going to cause controversy, but thats the nature of the game, your never going to please everybody, but it`s a start and I hope it will keep moving forward and become a major annual event in the Scottish Muay Thai calendar.** Ive tried to be as fair as possible and Ive tried to get as much media exposure as possible, to publicise the sport.**
