Power Of Scotland 7 returns to the Lagoon Arena on Saturday 28th November 2009. The Lagoon has proved to be a great venue for POS and the setup just adds to the great fight action!

Just waiting on a few more bouts to get confirmed, but in the mean time, here is the current lineup:

A Class

  • John Dick (GTBA, SCOTLAND) Vs. Gaylord Montier (FRANCE) (56kg)

  • John Dick needs no introduction to the POS crowd, the current No.1 Featherweight in the UK, STBA Scottish Champion, IKF British Champion, ISKA British Champion is out for another tough International challenge, as he takes on the hard hitting Montier. Montier, has a reputation in mainland Europe as top fighter with real KO Power and is sure to be another tough challenge for one of the nation’s favourite fighters.

  • Stevie Meikle (Caledonian, SCOTLAND) Vs. Leeroy Morgado (Super Gym, ENGLAND) (67kg)

  • After a successful year of fighting in Thailand, Stevie Meikle is back to make an assault on the 67kg UK Rankings, first of all taking on Ranked No. 7 Leeroy Morgado. Leeroy is a highly respected fighter who has mixed it with some of the best and will be determined to defend his spot in the rankings!

  • Gulapkaw Boapbapbam (POS Fight Team, THAILAND) Vs. Robin Downer (NKT Barrhead, SCOTLAND) (60kg)

  • After only seeing a glimpse of what Gulapkaw can add to the fight scene in Scotland, the Thai fighter is hoping to find his feet and start showing his true potential. He takes on the very tough and relentless Robin Downer, an energetic figher who has fought his way through the ranks and only last month turned in one of the best performances in the country this year, as he defeated the top veteran Matt Duncan, to show that he is arguably one of the top young fighters in the country just now.

  • Jordan Calder (Caledonian, SCOTLAND) Vs. Jonno Chipchase (MFA, ENGLAND) (56kg)

  • Jordan Calder is regarded as one of Scotland’s future stars of Muay Thai and the young teenager is set to be the youngest fighter to fight A Class rules on the POS stage. He is set to rematch the tough and talented young Jonno Chipchase from Manchester, who has a hunger to fight anyone and who proved to be a strong challenge in their first outing.

  • Kieran McAskill (POS Fight Team, SCOTLAND) Vs. TBC (53kg)

  • B Class

  • Ritchie Hocking (NKT, SCOTLAND) Vs. TBC (78kg)

  • Wullie Dempster (Dragons, SCOTLAND) Vs. Jonathan Bracken (Bridgestone, IRELAND) (70kg)

  • Alan Weaver (NAMT) Vs. Hardip Singh (Caledonian) (56kg)

  • Stevie Diver (Kaizen) Vs. TBC (72kg)

  • C Class

  • Ian Hamilton (NKT Barrhead) Vs. Colin Anderson (Kaizen) (67kg)

  • Jamie MacTavish (POS Fight Team) Vs. David Ferguson (GTBA) (60kg)

  • Paul Lapsley (NKT Barrhead) Vs. Adrian Wedolowski (Caledonian) (70kg)

  • Marcus McDonald (NKT Barrhead) Vs. Mark Kerry (Base) (59kg)

  • Jason McGlynn (POS Fight Team) Vs. Tam McCourt (GTBA) (58kg)

  • Some cracking young Scottish talent again taking centre stage on the event!

POS7 will run from 6-11pm, with doors opening at 5pm. Tickets go on sale this month and can be purchased from any of the fighters on the show or you can visit the Lagoon, Musclebound on New Street in Paisley. You will also be able to buy them through www.tickets-scotland.com and hopefully www.powerofscotland.com. Or alternatively call me on 07790 788 368 for tickets, info or to book Ringside tickets . Seating is unreserved apart from the Ringside, so basically first there on the day will get pick of the seats and you’ll have the flexibility to sit in groups etc. However, the last three events at the Lagoon have practically been sell outs, so get in quick.

Tickets are separated into 3 bands, Ringside (£50), Tiered (£25) and Standard (£20 for adults and £10 for Under 16’s). Ringside tickets offer close proximity seating, some food and waitress service. The majority of the tables have already been taken, so please get in touch asap if you are planning on taking one.

For regular updates on the event, check out the website: www.powerofscotland.com, which will be updated regularly as the event develops. Thank you to everyone that has helped so far!

I think most of the clubs now already have their tickets or I have at least put them aside and will be getting them to you in the next few days. If anyone still needs any, please let me know.

Hoping to have word on the fights that are still to be confirmed over the weekend and have a few additions to the lineup to announce aswell, shaping up to be another top event.

Yeah COlin, its bound to happen, I remembered similar coments when he fought Damien Trainor, so knew it would have been worse with the match against John.

Had some enquiry's regarding the tables since posting this. There has been a lot of tables already taken due to the earlier special promotion, so if you think you might need any please let me know asap and confirm when you can. Once the last few matches are confirmed I suspect the tables asociated with them will also be confirmed.

    Thanks guys!

I agree Gaz, the way Robin is evolving is brilliant and between all his Thai and Boxing fights he must spend half his life in the ring! LOL. Definitly up there with our other hot prospects! Also good to see Hardip fighting again and will be good to see how good Alan Weaver has become in such a short time.

Yeah Phil, obviously hoping Jordan and Meikle come through Master Sken's show ok, as they are also good fights on paper. I thought Jonno looked great outside the clinch in their first fight, particularly in the early rounds, but he feels he has improved the clinch aspect of his game since, so will be good to see if he is near Jordan's level in that area now.

I should note Ritchie will be under POS Fight Team, another copy and paste error. Should have his fight announced shortly, another tough international fight for the big man. Hopefully announce the other changes then also.

Thanks wee man! I'll obviously be needing your help as always buddy!

Just to let everyone know, I've only got 80 Tiered tickets left, so if you need anymore please let me know asap. I usually get some returns as normal, but most of the fighters don't have many more tickets than they would normally sell, so I will probably sell any of any returns myself. There is plenty of the standard tickets left though.

Going to update the lineup tonight. Got a few good additions, including 2 more A Class fights confirmed. Kieran McAskill will be fighting Darren Whewell, who looks a physically very strong young fighter who keeps coming forward and is coming down a few weight catogry's, so if he can retain that power he will be a very tough fight for Kieran. Also have Gordon Smith, the STBA Welterweight Champion against Aaron Hain, the Intrim STBA Welterweight Champion. Aaron won the fight against David Bowie on the Base Promotion after Gordon had to withdraw with injury, but this fight will decide who takes the title home.

Here is the current lineup, obviously things may change on the run up to the event, but hopefully not too much, as the lineup is looking great on paper.

    A Class

  • John Dick (GTBA, SCOTLAND) Vs. Gaylord Montier (FRANCE) (56kg)

    ISKA Super-Flyweight British Title
  • Kieran McAskill (POS Fight Team, SCOTLAND) Vs. Darren Whewell (Fortitudo, ENGLAND) (53.5kg)

  • Kieran McAskill, the up and coming young local fighter is currently ranked No.4 in the UK independent rankings and after 2 strong performances at the last 2 POS events, Kieran now has a British title shot against Darren Whewell. Whewell makes his POS debut and has a reputation as a physically very strong young fighter who keeps coming forward and has already went the distance with another top young Scottish fighter, Jordan Calder. Whewell is also coming down a few weight category’s, so if he can retain that power he will be a very tough fight for Kieran.

    STBA Welterweight Scottish Title
  • Gordon Smith (Caledonian) Vs. Aaron Hain (Fighting Fit) (67kg)

  • Gordon Smith, the STBA Scottish Welterweight Champion defends his title against Aaron Hain, who won the intrim version of the title against David Bowie, after Gordon was unable to defend it through injury. But who will etain the title as Scotland’s Welterweight champion in what is arguably the most competitive weight in the country. Both of these fighters have very nice styles and will be a very aesthetic technical battle.

• Marcus McDonald (NKT Barrhead) Vs. Mark Kerry (Base) (59kg)

  • Alan Weaver (NAMT) Vs. Hardip Singh (Caledonian) (56kg)

  • C Class

  • Scott Clark (POS Fight Team) Vs. Savas Cecen (Fighting Fit) (72kg)

  • Ian Hamilton (NKT Barrhead) Vs. Colin Anderson (Kaizen) (67kg)

  • Adam Little (Dragons) Vs. Stevie Diver (Kaizen) (72kg)

  • Jamie MacTavish (POS Fight Team) Vs. David Ferguson (GTBA) (60kg)

  • Colin Hain (Glasgow Fitness) Vs. John Kaufman (Fortitudo, ENGLAND) (65kg)

  • Kris Connely (Base) Vs. Linzie Beaty (Dragons) (69kg)

  • Paul Lapsley (NKT Barrhead) Vs. Adrian Wedolowski (Caledonian) (70kg)

Yeah its a tough fight for Kieran, Darren has also fought Jonno Chipchase when they were younger, so been in with some top young fighters, so good fight for both!

I expected everyone to be at it Rich!

Yeah I think that will be a good one as well Liam, obviously Stvie has a huge fight on Master Sken's show, but he's been very active in Thailand and used to fighting a lot, so he's determined to make the fight with Leeroy aswell.

Also had a few more enquiries about Ringside tables, the earlier promotion has ended, but their are a few left. If interested, please contact me directly or go through one of the fighters or gyms, as they are not available through Tickes-Scotland, Lagoon or Musclebound.

Also, if anyone has not recieved tickets or posters with the postal strike etc, please let me know, so I can track the package.

Not sure if POS Staff (ie me) are allowed to crack any Gaylord / Dick jokes.

    Until I'm informed otherwise:

"Gaylord has Dick all over him, he wouldn't have it any other way"

"Gaylord doesn't seem to mind the pressure from Dick"

Sorry Gary, although I did say "until otherwise informed", I'll take your last post as me "being informed", lol. Professionalism here onward...I promise!

    Ok predictions are:

John Dick (GTBA, SCOTLAND) Vs. Gaylord Montier (FRANCE) (56kg)
    Winner: Dick (prob points)

Stevie Meikle (Caledonian, SCOTLAND) Vs. Leeroy Morgado (Super Gym, ENGLAND) (67kg)
    Winner: Meikle (again points)

    ISKA Super-Flyweight British Title
Kieran McAskill (POS Fight Team, SCOTLAND) Vs. Darren Whewell (Fortitudo, ENGLAND) (53.5kg)
    Winner: McAskill (points)

    STBA Welterweight Scottish Title
Gordon Smith (Caledonian) Vs. Aaron Hain (Fighting Fit) (67kg)
Winner: Smith (my guess is low kick stoppage)

Gulapkaw Boapbapbam (POS Fight Team, THAILAND) Vs. Robin Downer (NKT Barrhead, SCOTLAND)
Great match this one but after seeing Downer against Matt Duncan, I'm gonna go for a win for Downer

Jordan Calder (Caledonian, SCOTLAND) Vs. Jonno Chipchase (MFA, ENGLAND) (56kg)
    Winner: Calder

Ritchie Hocking (POS Fight Team, SCOTLAND) Vs. Ludovic Coarfe (FRANCE) (78kg)
Don't know anything about opponent so I'll go for a win for little Ritchie

Alan Weaver (NAMT) Vs. Hardip Singh (Caledonian) (56kg)
Another great match, Dip is a cracking fighter and in my opinion the more technical of the two. He's been out of the ring for a long time though and young Alan has been pretty active. I'll go with a win for Dip though.

Paul Lapsley (NKT Barrhead) Vs. Adrian Wedolowski (Caledonian) (70kg)
    Winner: Mad Adrian

    DavyMac

id go for wins to Adrian, Adam Little, Dip, Jonno bracken, Ritchie, Jordan, Gordon and John Dick.

Yeah, quite a few close ones, think all of the A Class ones have the potenial to be top fights. I'm also looking forward to some of the undercard ones aswell, the likes of: Alan V Dip, Marcus McD and Mark Kerry & Ian Hamilton V Colin Anderson.

Yeah I think Robin and Joe as the potential to be a good one aswell. Robin is on top form and if he continues the way he did against Matt, then he will take some stopping. But on the other hand I think withn the next couple of fights Joe will start showing his own potential. Both still teenagers and a lot or time to develop.

Cheers Liam, hope your feeling good for next week, got a bunch from my gym coming down to cheer you's on, should be a cracker! LOL about logo, I think you've got a strong case against them, get your lawyers onto it!

Thanks guys! Alex, think I've spoke to you about that since, 2 changes to make to above lineup, will hopefully be confirmed by the weekend.

Tickets are going much faster than the last event so looks like another packed crowd, Tiered section is crammed already, a few spaces left at Ringside, but still plenty in the standard section for on the day sales aswell. Again, if anybody is expecting say more than 10 Tiered ticket returns, please let me know.

    Posted: 2009-11-16 04:25:33
Few chages to the lineup, but most of it the same. Unfortunitely Leroy Morgado and Jordan Calder had to pull out, so their fights are off.

Also looking to rematch Ritchie Hocking 78kg and Sava Cecen 72kg, if anybody is interested in these matches, please let me know.

Tickets for the event are looking great, tiered should be packed and only 1 Ringside table left to book, so going to be another great atmosphere in the Lagoon.

Just to let all the Ringside spectators know, that the menu for the event has more of a Scottish theme this year, but also some of previously popular food aswell:

  • McDowalls haggis with neeps and tatties.

  • Irish stew with colcannon.

  • Moroccan veggie hotpot.

  • Green thai chicken curry and rice.

  • Sweet and sour vegetable noodles.

  • Selection of breads.

  • Selection of world cheeses and biscuits.

  • Plus another Sweet option.

  • Please remember that the dresscode is as normal, at least collar for the gents and formal for the ladies.

There will be a bar at the show, but unfortunitly no Guiness!

Which reminds me, meant to post this the other day.

All children must be accompanied with an adult to gain entry into the event.

There will be signs up on the day and if anyone has any problems please let me know before the event and I will arrange a refund. The reason being is that the council, venue and licensing board have new legislation in to protect children in licensed premises and therefore they must be in the care of an adult. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience but out of my hands.

Neeps and tatties! Glasgow really surprised me the last time I was there. Hate to admit it but the food and nightlife puts most Eglish cities to shame.

    Betting:

Theres more than £100 placed on Aaron Hain (Fighting Fit) to win and less than £2 on Gordon Smith (Caledonian)! C'mon Smith fans - do you really think he has less than a fifty to one chance of winning? This is fan to fan betting - where are the Gordon Smith fans?

bet on POS7. Smith v Hain with BeLuckyTote
Gordon Smith (Caledonian) Vs. Aaron Hain (Fighting Fit)

maxine paszowski - I'll put the Dempster v Bracken fight up but do remember that ANYONE can put the fights up on BeLuckyTote.com Its instant and doesn't cost anything, no credit card details needed, just a username and password. And whoever puts the fight up earns commission! Its piss easy I promise. Ideally, Gary would put all the fights up but I think he's rather busy with the rest of the show.

Maybe some kind person can put a few more of the fights up? Preferably, someone who doesn’t bet (if you put the fight up, you cant bet on it). You can even donate the commission to charity.

Unfortunitely Gaylord pulled out yesterday (no puns please), however thankfully I had a few backups in place. John will now be fighting a French Champion Said Youb at the same weight. I may have 2 more additions to add to the lineup tomorrow and will update the lineup.

Tickets for this event seem to be going great, so please don't wait till the last minute to get your tickets. I've spoken to most people and there is minimal returns coming back in, so the only tickets sure to be on sale on the door are Standard. Ringside will be sold out and assuming minimal returns the tiered should be packed aswell, going to be electric!

Thanks to everyone for their help with this show, so far its went smoothly, so hopefully it'll stay that way! Apologies again to all the fighters I couldn't match this time. Just over a week to go and can't wait for the show!

That looks like a cracking replacement Gary, well done mate.

Team Bennatia are supposed to be a good outfit, that's where Mehdi Zatout fought from and he just beat Andy Thrasher for Euro Title at the Sken show.

That said, Dick always rises to the occasion, I'm sure it'll be a good fight.

    Best of luck John.

Yeah Dougie, Youb has got a good reputation, and on paper its another tough challenge for John, but hopefully he'll upset the odds again!

The weighin is Friday night at the Lagoon (PA1 1NB) at 6pm. We'll have the officials meeting and medicals then aswell, so everyone just focuses on fighting on Sat.

14 Fights all confirmed and hopefully there should be no pullouts now and a smooth(ish) run upto the event. I'll be out and about over the next few days, so if anyone is needing to get a hold of me, better trying my mobile, as I'll be slow to respond to emails. Thanks, Gary.

Thanks Paul! Had the usual challenges but got past them all so far. John Dick has had yet another pullout, but thankfully they have another A Class guy stepping in, Imed Douk. Don't know much about him other than he's only lost 2 fights and won half by stoppage, so sounds like he can bang a bit.

Thanks to everyone who has kept in touch regarding ticket sales, I know its difficult as a lot leave it till last minute, but has meant I've managed to give some more out and not lost sales. On the numbers I am expecting now, there will be about 50 standard and tiered on the door for anyone who has left it last minute.

Mugger I'll update the lineup and running order just now mate, I've got Jono on 9th, so still plenty drinking time!

Well done Alan Weaver, on Thur he was not fit to fight due to illness and only about 70% by Fri, but another strong performance, I predict a big year ahead for Alan as he continues to develop. Respect to Dip and the Caledonian gym, one of the best in the UK. Congratulations to Keiran, a brilliant performance and worthy champion; Ritchie just oozes confidence and his finish was awesome, as was Robin Downer's!!!!!! Always great to see Marcus McDonald on show, a fighter who will give it 110% Unfortunately the atmosphere was not the same as previous POS's, maybe credit crunch effect.

Going to keep this post as short as possible (never going to happen), as I was meant to take the rest of the day off, but just wanted to thank all the fighters, coaches, officials, event staff and spectators that contributed to this event! Everyone I spoke to seemed to think it was one of the best, certinly the Ringside loved it as most of them booked their tables for the next one already. Although NAMT thought the atmosphere wasn’t as good as normal, I and everyone else I spoke to actually thought it was the loudest heard at the Lagoon since POS4 and there was only about 10% difference in numbers, even at the end as the crowd reduced the noise was excellent. When big Ritchie came on the place errupted! Have to mention the away gyms, all were great to deal with and top people, I would recommend them to any promoter!

Unusually there was a lot of stoppages last night, but glad to say nobody was seriously hurt, my lad Jamie has a broken bone in his foot but it’s a clean break so actually better than soft tissue damage, so he’ll be back soon. On a personal note I was really happy with my guys fighting, Jamie’s injury was just one of those accidental things that happens. Joe isn’t doing what he can and I’m realising some of the problems now we’ve seen him get some decent ring time, he’ll be back much better next year. Going into the fight I personally thought Joe had to hurt Robin early or else Robin would come through in the end and credit to him he did just that, after 2 tough rounds. Both these guys are still only teenagers and have great futures ahead of them.

Was really proud of big Ritchie, not because of his first KO, but because of that bloody entrance, for a lad just turned 18 to put on a show like that is class and really added to the “show” element of the event. Although there was a big age gap, Ritchie also had significant more ring experience, so fair play to Savas for taking the fight. To be fair, the fight didn’t really get started, as the high kick came out of nowhere and caught him cold. But I think he had to do something spectacular to get away with the entrance! LOL

Kieran buddy, you were awesome, so proud of you! You did lack some fitness because of last week, but you just got on with it and dug deep, especially in the second half of the fight. Darren pushed the fight over the full 5 rounds and is definitly another top up & coming lad. Darren landed some big punches and low kicks, combined with Kieran injuring his foot kicking his elbows a few times, meant he had to stop his usual kicking game and use his clinch technicques, which was a risk, as we knew Darren was physically strong. But, it was like I was playing a computer game, Kieran did everything I asked and managed to monitor the fight throughtout and pace it perfectly, just doing enough to stay ahead and not burn out. Time for a good rest wee man and let all those injuries heal I think, well done again!

Just received the results from Frank, as I unfortunitly missed half of the fights. Anyway here they are.

  • Paul Lapsley (Douglas Muay Thai) Vs. Adrian Wedolowski (Caledonian) (70kg) Wedolowski Win, TKO R2

  • Kris Connely (Base) Vs. Linzie Beaty (Dragons) (69kg) Beaty, TKO R4

  • Jamie MacTavish (POS Fight Team) Vs. David Ferguson (GTBA) (61kg) Ferguson Win, TKO R1

  • Jamie McGuiness (Team Glah-Hahn) Vs. Stevie Diver (Kaizen) (71kg) Diver Win, Points

  • Alan Weaver (NAMT) Vs. Hardip Singh (Caledonian) (56kg) Weaver Win, TKO R3

  • Marcus McDonald (Douglas Muay Thai) Vs. Mark Kerry (Base) (59kg) McDonald Win, TKO R1

  • Ritchie Hocking (POS Fight Team, SCOTLAND) Vs. Savas Cecen (Fighting Fit) (78kg) Hocking Win, KO R1 Hocking Win, TKO R1

  • ISKA Super-Flyweight British Title
  • Kieran McAskill (POS Fight Team, SCOTLAND) Vs. Darren Whewell (Fortitudo, ENGLAND) (53.5kg) McAskill Win, Points

Yeah Aaron couldn't make the weight, which means Gordon officially retains the title. Shame it didn't happen, as I think it would have been a great fight, both are very technical and have nice style.

I thought the show ran very well though possibly to many breaks and it was freezing in the arena!
Some good fights, Keiran has def matured into a very clever and technical fighter. Jono Bracken also looked strong v Dempster.
Dip unfortunately got caught with a few big shots from a strong Alan Weaver and couldnt really make his mark on the fight.
Adrian showing again what a strong force he is at 70kg and im sure he will continue to progress and start taking some bigger scalps next year!!

    Thanks guys!

Yeah Stevie, we did have too many breaks, especially in between fights, but that was simply due to the stoppages. Also turns out the boilers for the whole centre broke down on the Satmorning, the pool etc has been shut since Sunday, so that was just unfortunate timing, its usually roasting in there. Didn't see Jono, but heard he was very strong, in fact, I didn't see much so looking forward to seeing them all.

Trying to get hold of the pictures from the show, hopefully get them up soon.

The undercard is up on P4TV. Before anyone moans about the entrance music getting changed, Mel has dubbed over it with royalty free music so they could show the entrances, but the original music and crowd noise will be on the DVD. Going to be a shame for Ritchie's entrance, as he's going to look even more stupid! LOL.
