either paulo's boxing will be too strong for dan with dan being so young or dan wins clearly. either way very interesting fight.

I think Paulo boxing will be to much. By far the hardest hitter at the weight.
Paul McGowan

Its gonna be a great night and a great fight for sure and I can assure you that Paulo has all the respect in the World from us....Dan does lots of sparring with my Nephew who is a pro boxer and a southern area champion so he knows all about being hit hard trust me!!...Dan has a strong all round game now and has that man strength now that has probably just held him back from fights like this a year ago...anyone who saw his last fight against Kieran McAskill will vouch for everything ive just wrote there because he put in one of the best and strongest performances ive seen him ever put in....cant wait if im honest! !

Both fighters are tough and skilled but for me Dan will be victorious.
He is younger, hungrier and has all the talent to be up there with the worlds best in a few years.
Paulo is a big hitter but he hasn't fought anyone near Dan's level in a while.
Pressure is on him to get the result.

I would nt say he s not fought anyone at Dans level recently......his fights just are nt plastered all over AX.........Andy howson is fighting for a wbc world title against Paulos last opponent he defeated....... Is Andy also not at that level or is it just a gross mismatch for him?

andy has the easier fight for that nice strap than liam does! why did Paulo not contest for the belt. i think at the moment the WBC being new are giving their belts away to good fighters and letting them rise to the top with the best fighters seaching for them. end of the day the top fighters in the world will end up with the wbc belts but they dont have them yet! howsons a bloody excellent fighter but has lost to dean twice it makes it all awkward because really andy isnt the top fighter at his weight in england right now let alone the world. i mean no offense to andy at all and he has no reason to put up the reasons here why he does deserve the shot but the shot doesnt always go to the best fighter. politics go a long way. andy is without doubt one of our best ever hes due to fight an ex stable mate of myself from thailand mini T who i think andy will beat convincingly so im not trash talking him. just the title shots dont always go to the best fighters. i have watched a few of paulo's fights today, he seems to strugle with good kickers and clinchers two things dan is good at!

I think McGowan has the technique & defensive skills to out score DaSilva and shut him out...but DaSilva only needs to get through once to rock McGowan & make it a different fight

If I had to put money on it I go McGowan though

i also think that andy's fight against romie adanza or what his name is was one of the best international muay thai clinics iv ever seen a uk fighter do.
paulinthailand
Posted: 2014-07-01 13:14:01
also i dont think anyone has said this is a mismatch quite the opposite people are interested in it, a real clash of styles, i have never trained with paulo but have friends that have and everyone says exactly the same his punching is absolutely brutal. but dan really is the stylist.

I agreed with a lot of what you say about the best fighters not always getting the shot... Look at when Amir Khan got knocked out for the first time against prescott and then his next fight was a WBA International Title fight with Marco Barrera, who they knew he would beat but no one would question the credibility to get him ranked higher with the WBA and set him up for his WBA World Title win against Andriy Kotelnik..

It's called business....

However... and this is a big however

The reason this is not the same with Andy Howson's WBC World Title Shot is because he has dropped to 53.5kg to fight for this world Title after winning world titles at 55kg.. No one can deny Andy is World Class and even stronger at Bantamweight.. He lost to Dean at Super Bantamweight 55kg.

All the correct procedures were followed and the WBC are certainly not handing out the belts even if they are to top fighters.

If anything promoters like myself put the requests in and for World Titles if it is vacant it is sent to 3 national committees across the world for example WBC Italy, WBC France, WBC USA and if there are no direct objections the Rankings committee in thailand approve the fight providing the fighters are ranked in the top 20 of the WBC.

Andy and his opponent both qualified with out objection. The winner will have mandatory defences and the WBC are hot on this and if Titles are not defended they are put in recess and forced to either fight the winner of an eliminator or relinquish the title

Regards

Back on topic.. lol :)

PS.... Paulo V Dan is gonna be fight of the year on the UK Domestic Scene.. I cant wait

Hey paulinthailand, i don't disagree with anything you have said mate, but as Alex has just stated, my losses to Dean was at 55kgs and fair enough, never complained about it just one of those things and cuts me deep to say it but lost to a better man on the day. I'm moving down to 53.5kgs for the wbc fight as been making 55 too easy recently and been coming in 54 without really trying so hard so why not drop down again. I'm 35 years old and i know myself past my best, but i have served my time and never ducked anybody, and fought the best there is at my weight and above from everywhere in the world. I basically was offered the shot by another promoter and was obviously chuffed to bits and wanted it, that show fell through and Alex and the Smash team swooped in to save the day. As stated if i do win there will be mandatory defenses and i will defend against anybody i don't care.

This fight will be amazing, known both guy's a long long time and have trained with Paulo quite a bit in the past, and known Dan since he was literally a small boy, will be interesting to see as Dan has slick skills in every aspect of the sport, and he has been dropped in the past a couple of times in Thailand but got up and shown a massive heart and come back to win from it before, those counts did come against quite young Thai's though and Paulo really does pack one hell of a punch and will be interesting to see what it will be like if he can land one of those bombs and how Dan deals with getting clocked by a man. Either way this is going to be a great fight and i wish both lads all the very best of luck, its good to see 1 vs 2 defending there place in the uk rankings, used to happen all the time back in the day but has slowed down a lot now due to all the mickey mouse title's appearing each week.

Dan is a man now, nobody said that about Petchpanonrong or Saengmanee. Will be a great fight and we appreciate Paulo and John Jarvis taking a fight which they could have avoided, much respect for that.

Different world and class!

the bublea fight was unan dec... all 3 judges had it the same.
bublea was effective with his boxing only. he told me that he didnt kick due to an injury. he lost fair and square. would like to see a rematch with a fully fit bublea.

Watched the fight on Saturday and was blown away by the skill level and in particular Paulo's performance. It showed that I don't fully understand the scoring criteria/rules and neither did my table as we were shocked when the decision was read out (I was there to support knowlesey academy). I thought he answered nearly every kick with a kick of his own, blocked most of the kicks and put on a boxing clinic. Mcgowan's kicks are awesome too. One of the best fights I've seen live.

datey, he answered 80% of the clean strong bodykicks yes but with an inside low kick which did not score as it did not off balance or move McGowan, thats why. He also boxed a bit in the clinch which doesnt score. Smash are taking on board peoples comments so i guess they will put a summary of muaythai scoring in the next program.

Agree with you there Superpetch, they were low kicks. I understand the importance of body kicks and accept that under the thai scoring system that Daniel won. I personally thought that Paulo was successful with his boxing a lot more than just in the clinch. Daniel's kicks were/are superb. I'd pay to watch either fighter again.

Just to add that the talent Daniel has at only 18 is frightening.

Only comment I'd make to improve the show is to the bloke that shat all over one of the toilet cubicles to not do it again.
