I have just seen an advert for a kickboxing show with a 5 Nations Title.
Thoughts on this additional title please?
Useful? One step too far?
Which Nations? England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and .. Eire, perhaps?
The IKF have had a 5 nations title for many years and yep its the 5 nations just mentioned....
Eire = Ireland?? Same Same??
England - R.Ireland - N.Ireland - Scotland - Wales..... 5 Nations....
Is there a requirement for 5 nations as well as British?
I'd say they are as relevant as all the other titles on the market
It seems the number of gyms that rely on/go after titles is dwindling, more and more would rather improve their ranking than chase a vacant title

Agree. Thats sad really isn't it?
Meh, dunno about that.
I guess Irish fighters cant fight for British or Commonwealth title's so it's a step between Irish and European titles?
I think the rankings provide an accurate barometer for a fighters level. Whereas the industry as a whole must accept that at times those less worthy have competed for titles starting a devaluation process that diminishes a titles worth. For example we have often seen in the rankings European champions ranked well below a top 5 position. Or in
www.thaifighter.co.uk least ways as we base a fighters position purely on results.
The use of the 5 Nations title option is several fold.
Used predominantly, in fact almost exclusively in the amateurs, it provides a less complicated option for promoters and fighters alike.
The reality is that there is a fair amount of activity between the 'home nations' including Eire, and to travel between these countries is more practical and cost effective than moving out into Europe and beyond.
So once you move from domestic titles, the next sensible option is European. (I know that Commonwealth exists but it is hardly used).
The 5 Nations bridges that gap and allows decent contests to take place beyond domestic level without having to trail through Europe constantly looking for fighters whose records and level can be clarified.
For the main part, and under ideal circumstances we are able to follow a trail as most fighters in this category are on a smaller circuit and are aware or each other.
For instance there is a fair amount of activity between English & Irish fighters. Pull outs and problems aside, you can normally put a National or British champion with and Irish or All Irish champion to make a good contest.
If you are unable to (for instance) secure the British champion, you can go to the English champion and offer the 5 nations, in the hope that you can then match the winner at some point with the British champion if they so wish.
So rather than being 'just another title', it, in many ways replaces the European title initially and promotes activity and levels of progression for amateur, domestic fighters, setting up a whole host of options before moving on.
It has also helped to establish an ideal pecking order for European and then World honours.
I'm sure that those looking for it will find examples of less than ideal contests. It happens, for many reasons. we operate in an unpredictable industry. All you can do is look to have a plan to put that right moving forwards and maintain activity for keen amateurs.
I hope that helps with your question Lee.
Thankyou for that sir, however I do understand the rationale of its creation, just not the practicality of its use when more prestigious SOUNDING titles are routinely contested between competitors who would qualify for a 5 nations belt.
I suppose that's one I can't answer as given the opportunity we would look to go through this process. It seems that all manner of titles are routinely offered up to suit so there is no change there.
There is still a place for 5 nations when delivered in context.
'Context' for me would be (for instance), any National title holder. I would also accept an area title holder if none of the above are available, but look to involve the other champs in the mix moving forwards. This in turn would result in vacated titles for up and coming contests. It also means that the level remains at domestic or just above - rather than a mass of less qualified fighters going to European because that's the only option.
So to take it right back to your original post.
For me - it has been 'Useful', and mostly, more realistic.
Yes I suppose so.
Like so many other threads, for me the answer is 'if only things were different'.
Other things may be, but this works for us and is far more realistic than someone saying 'The British is taken, lets just make it for The European'.
If I was making decisions for moving forward I would include strong domestic opportunities and a delayed route to World class.
But I'm not, am I :)
