Hey my name's Michael and im 10 yrs old. I have been interested in fighting for quite a while but i only started taekwondo about 4 weeks ago (i'm a white belt). i come from Victoria, Australia and i train at Chang's. My Dad tells me i'm a natural at it...i won in high kick after just 4 training sessions and i always win in sparring at training. um, yeah, i wanna be a kickboxing when i'm older. i will fight for macedonia in tarik solak promotions (http://www.tariksolak.com.au).
(no, i wont be a muay thai kickboxer just regular).
so,
WHAT DO U THINK,
should i do it?

Forget TWD if you want to be a kickboxer. They're two different things and TWD will teach you bad habits.

Anyway, no matter what you do, stick at it and give it 100%. Starting at such a young age is ideal and you could have a very promising career in front of you.

Good luck!

All the best.

Keep up the TKD if you want to be good at TKD.

If you want to be good at kickboxing then take kickboxing.

This thread looks so fake-no offense if it isn't. I just think it probably is.

TKD, I don't want MuayThai. 10 years old saying some of what was said.

Some of the typing looks too forced and some looks too good.

TKD Kid-if this is legit then ignore me. Sometimes its hard not to be suspicious. I'm not normally suspicious but...maybe I'm just getting old.

Got a 6 year old doing a workout with a 12 years old at FFC.
How about that for faking at a topic :)

At the right you can just see a piece of the carefully Mr. Lucien Carbin watching those 2.

Posted: 2002-08-27 13:10:03

Hi Flame,

I'll talk to him tomorrow. I'll ask.

Think he is 16 or 17 if I'm not mistaken.
One of Lucien's promessing fighters for the future.
Think he and Tarik are the 2 upcoming men to watch from Amsterdam
at the moment.

Regards to Claudia. Wish her well for me.
Eric

Ps. Photo is Ilonka & Tarik.(keep forgetting his last name, I should write it down :))

He is one tough fighter...formerly (or is it still...?) known as Memo Janjira, he is small and very technical for a kid!!! i remember when they were here in guadalajara he gave me good advices about kicking, stances, some combos, strategy, etc. and his sis Mely...probably the best kicker i have ever seen...and believe me....i have seen a lot!!! Memito will be at Mr. Mcphails event this Aug. 31....saludos desde mexico!

Sorry Flame, I was in a hurry before.
Looking forward having you & Claudia over in Holland one day.

Btw. Tarik's last name is El Idrissi.
They currently are making a database of all FFC-fighters for their website.
Of course all this info will be available for Brain to use for his AX-database if he wants. Damn thing is these fighters prefer training to filling out questionair forms I guess.:)

Take care,
Eric

Ps. On the photo are Allistair "Demolition Man" Overeem & Tyrone Spong.

Take from a tape of the fight. Unfortunatly it was a lousy cameraman, because the tape was half B&W, half colour. (poor quality) and shot by someone having a camera in his hands for the first time in his life.:)

And no unfortunatly I wasn't there.
Think this photo is also you between the first & second round.
It was a good fight indeed & Virtual Dub makes as many photoshot of the fight as you like :)

Why always photo...?

LOL

.....

Kid if you're legit cool. Maybe we're just too old and jaded. Plus I wouldn't put it passt some jokers on here to play a joke.

TKD and kickboxing aren't the same.

TKD is great(depending on the instructor) for many things. Kickboxing is kickboxing. MuayThai is MuayThai. Boxing is boxing.

Though TKD could help you some in kickboxing it can also make things very hard for you.

kickboxing/muay thai have the advantage over a lot of other martial arts in the full-on way in which you train. But you're young enough to do more than one if you like.

In Ny it is mostly my school and the Russian schools who train kids to fight.

We need more kids training and fighting since they are the future of the sport.

This is my son Josh, He and his older brother have been training since they could walk (Muay Thai). Josh was 10 in that pic, he has fought 3 times, and loves it!!
The older one Jay has fought once and dosen't like it, even though he won his first fight and Josh lost(he has made up for it since then)!
I trained them from young so they would be able to defend themselves, it was there choice to fight. (Just in case anyone was thinking I pushed them into it)

TKD kid-
Stick with your TKD for a while as it will give you a kicking edge over most KB & MT guys who have only done KB or MT. If nothing else TKD will work on your stretching and teach you how to head kick. As you are only young you will find it easier to get great flexability, which if you keep working on it will stay with you for ever. It's very hard for an older person who has never been able to do the splits to start trying as an adult and actually get to that kind of flexability. Then later when you are ready go to a KB or MT school as they will teach you how to turn those slappy TKD head kicks into jaw breaking power kicks. You will also be an interesting fighter because you can head kick, and this always helps to draw a crowd. Nothing more boring than a KB or MT fighter who only does the jab, right, thigh kick combo........ YAWN......zzzzzzzzzzz
As some of the others have said though, if you want to fight in MT you will at some point need to train in it, or chances are you will get your arse kicked in the ring, as they tend to have more power than TKD, but don't let anyone tell you TKD isn't a good way to get started. Some of the best MT & KB fighters of our time got started in one martial art or another.
Just have fun and put into it what you expect in return, you can't be the best if you don't train like you are!
