.Charles takes place on throne as new world kickboxing king
Aug 13 2008 by Our Correspondent, Birkenhead News

Lee Charles

WIRRAL martial arts instructor Lee Charles has been crowned World Kickboxing Champion after enjoying victory at the CIMAC World Cup.

During the last eight months, the 32-year-old founder and co-owner of Elite Martial Arts, based in Price Street Business Centre, has won the English, British, European and WAKO International Golden Gloves titles.

But now he has compete his coup of titles after scooping the World Kickboxing Championship despite having two years out of international competition – something he believes helped him to victory at the CIMAC World Cup.

Lee said: “The past two years were crazy, as I had a lot going on in terms of personal things and I started in the movie business doing stunts and acting.

“But this year, I decided to go back to the competition scene – just as a challenge for myself. I never imagined that I would be so successful. It’s utter madness, but I put it down to having the time and flexibiltiy to train with running my academy.

“I have a great team behind me and I think that is one of the key elements to my success this year. I have a few fights left in me yet, just how many I'm not sure. But with the continued support and encouragement from everyone at my academy, I'll do my best.”

Lee has also signed up for two movies and has planned fights abroad for the rest of the year, including some in Italy, Belguim, Miami and Bulgaria.

Lee aded: I would finally like to thanks master Brian McKinney, Benny 'The Jet' Urquidez and my sponsors.”
