In response to all the madness on social media / forums;
Can we just say a massive thank you to the promoter for having us on the show and looking after us, the setup & atmosphere was quality and could have filled an even bigger venue. The fights were well matched and of a very high standard.
Regarding Chris Shaw and his team (Steven Houston) they were nothing but polite and helpful at weigh-in and before bout, rumours go around about everyone in the sport but we judge only on personal experience.
The fight itself was shaping up to be a good contest, Chris was very strong and game working well with his boxing and Panicos scoring with turns in clinch followed by kicks. The incident at the end of round 2 Chris has told us he did not hear the bell which we are not in a position to say weather he did or not, he was very focused on this fight as he is in all his bouts and i'm sure was in the zone.
The reasons given for the shot after the bell was that the combination was started before then bell and another being that the punch was thrown before the bell but by the time it landed the bell had gone. I know if a combination was midway with Panicos’ ring experience he would not have dropped his guard to touch gloves and come back to the corner regardless of any bell he would defend himself at all times.
We have to go with the head judge and referees decision who also confirmed with one of the other judges with a good view of it and timekeeper who decided it was an illegal punch and therefore a foul and disqualification.
We spoke to Chris Shaws manager (Steven Houston) after the bout to arrange the rematch which will happen as soon as possible fitting in after Chris’ already confirmed bouts with Jonno and Stevie Brown. I believe this should now have been confirmed with Scottish promoter for first date they are both available after their bouts. As we said to Chris’ trainer we took the bout knowing it was a dangerous one and not one that we had to take but we do not shy away from matches and if you want to be number 1 you have to beat everyone, too many people ducking bouts if people are ranked below them etc and Shaw will be up there ranked highly soon.
The only negative part of the whole weekend for me was an officials behaviour Karl Lochridge who was witnessed by several ringside tables and other officials and event organisers not behaving in a manner an official should; especially with children present. Not only did he subject people to the aforementioned behaviour, he also claims that you are allowed up to 2 seconds after the bell to continue fighting and has since publicly voiced this incorrect information. It is a great shame that a below N class official who clearly has no understanding whatsoever of the rules managed to get onto a show with A class fights on the card. Some serious retraining required there. Our 3 gyms and the others we teach at have agreed that we will not participate in any capacity at any event that has Karl Lochridge is even handing out a trophy on as he has proved himself totally incompetent, an official written complaint to his superiors is due to be filed.
Wont be posting or replying to any posts on this thread, have spoken to Steven Houston this morning and sorting rematch, that will be the end of it.
