Big thanks to everyone that rallied around and helped out , alot of juggling after a few pull outs midweek then Nigel Thomas pulling out of the English title with Ricky Gammon at lunch time on the day of the show through ill health followed by Graham Smiths missus going into labour an hour later (Good luck Graham hope all went smoothly mate) leaving Dave Lockwood with no opponent (hence Ricky stepping up for a crack at the British title)

Fight of the night has to go to Ashley Gammon and Simon Ivekich !! what can only be described as a war !!

I missed Qas's early stoppage , by the time i got out to watch it was all over but have been informed it was nothin less than frightening !

And thanks to a loud , high spirited but well behaved Nottingham crowd !!

Pictures to follow ....

well done mate, glad you got to pull it off.. after the starts and stops.. well worth sticking to your guns for, sorry couldnt make the indian was in a world of my own on the painkillers.. would have been shit company.. not that im great otherwise..lol

congrats to ricky and comiserations to dave.. a tough battle on any counts but shaun i had dave marginly in front.. he landed most shots.. but the shots ricky landed were fucking bombs.. would like to have seen it go the full 7 rounds has ricky would have learnt a lot from it as dave had him timed and was getting through so ricky would have had dig down and listen to you for the answers... just be wise who you match him uo with at this weight, he needs to adjust lots to it.. he definately took the power with him down into the devision.. but can he sustain it over the distance if they weather the storm... will take one tough bastard at that weight to get through what can only be described as hell.. imho if you train him to withstand the fatigue... gonna have a long reigning champion there

well done to simon took the fight to dangerous opposition and did not ease off perfect game plan crdit to wragsters.. and credit to ash took some major bastard (yes thats a technical term) and would not go down.. only mstake ash did was not take on board was his corner was giving instruction do.. granted always easier to say than do it

shaun dont take this as picking faults.. just giving you outside honest opinion

wragsters stgeorge if you want the rematch can have it at the metrodome 9th feb resurrection 6.. offer is there

sorry dale slight plug there.. again well done kid.. glad i could make it

English title: what an excellent fight between two fighters that went through the fire and gave their all for that English title belt. Ashley Gammon from St Georges and Simon Ivekich from Wragsters left it all in the ring with Simon eventually winning the decision. Usually in fights you have a winner and you have a loser but in this case I think its fait to say that even though he never got the decision Ashley won an immense about of respect for standing up to some ferocious assaults from Simon and came firing back when you thought he was on the brink of going. These are the type of fights in kickboxing comparable to the Arturo Gatti / Micky Ward type fights in boxing that has the hairs standing up on the back of your neck.
Great win for Simon, well done, and equally great brave performance for Ashley.

When's the rematch? lol

British title: Congratulations to Ricky Gammon dethroning Champion David Lockwood via 4th round cuts stoppage. What was most impressive about this victory was the fact that Ricky had turned up expecting to be contesting the English title over 5 rounds and due to fighters pulling out and the card being juggled found himself in the position to challenge the champion for his belt. With Ricky as we know struggling to get fights he jumped at the chance and proved himself to be every bit at that class with a very mature performance ending in the stoppage win. Now as a Champion we a reversal of roles with the hunter now being the hunted which I'm sure Ricky and his couch Shaun will relish.
Big up Ricky, nice one kid!

Non title 5 rounder: Good win for Qas with the first round head kick KO over Davis Kamara leaving most people confused what had actually dropped Davis due to the speed of the kick. Even we in Qasim's corner weren't 100% sure what had happened until viewing the video of the knockout back in the changing room where the true brutality of the knockout was revealed. Times like this you wish you were watching the fights on sky sports at home with the benefit of action replay.

Nice one Dale, despite pull outs and fight changes a good show in the end.

"Graham Smiths missus going into labour"

I've heard some lame excuses for last-minute pull-outs before, but this had to take the biscuit. Do you know he's still down the hospital as we speak pretending something's going on but with nothing to show for it? Strange. Graham's always normally on time, and he never hangs about. The word is now that this baby's time-keeping is more like some other peoples' at the gym. If it comes out bald and a little, erm, tanned, I know B's going to be in some trouble...

Good show, Dale. I especially enjoyed the bit near the end when the funny-looking man did a clown show in the ring to a Queen track. He looked familiar. I'm sure I saw him carrying that fluffy-lined black belt thingy in Wolverhampton last month. Is he expensive and does he do birthday parties?

Great Show Dale, especially after all the messing about with people pulling out etc,it's a shame this sort of thing still keeps happening it's always bad for the sport and results in mismatches or poor fights just to make the numbers.
Congratulations to Ricky Gammon on taking the British Title last night against my fighter David Lockwood,he was very impressive and worst of all a SOUTHPAW!
We only got to know of the change of opponent just as we were setting off to Matlock, for months Dave had been focused on training for a fight with Graham Smith. If the change of opponent was'nt bad enough we found out he was a southpaw only an hour before the bout so what could have been an even better fight ended in disaster for David as he could'nt cope with Ricky's southpaw style and gave a well below par performance getting caught by some good left punches in the first which started the damage to Davids eye, causing the bad cut.
David Lockwood will be back after this loss and won't be avoiding nobody he is an excellent kickboxer and was brutally honest about his loss saying "Ricky deserved to win as I fought crap!"
Ricky Gammon could be a good champion as a lot of fighters will have problems with his southpaw style, but he will need to get used to doing the seven rounders, his trainers should be very proud they've done a good job with him!
My only complaint was the medics who saw to Davids eye in the ring and promised to see us in the changing rooms later, his eye did have a pretty bad cut and was still bleeding, after waiting ages for them to see to his eye I went looking for them only to find that they had cleared off and gone home!We ended up going to Worksop hospital to get proper treatment,if medics are at a show they should do their job properly and take care of fighters when they are injured!

phil a great fight and a good win for ricky and as you know he,s a southpaw now but he would never of waverd he,d of stood there for 7 rounds and got stronger, he will be training now to do 10 rounds and if im right does david have the wako british if so there,s your rematch without a doubt.we refuse nobody that is why we took the match and it payed off for us. respect for david he had the belt for one reason because he earnt it and i hope all is well with him, sorry to hear about the medics. look forward to meeting again next year for sure.and jon if you had david in front i think i will give your next show a miss ha ha. ricky was just getting into his own in round 3 after if you read the comments from davids coach landing some good left hooks as you must of seen and would of got stronger and better from there on, and like you say he,s carrying the power still and for that weight who has that power, not many and also he,s inproving every fight, the lads only been at this game for a year which i think some forget so bring on the future. thanks again for all the comments neil and congratulations to qas, cheers all at wragsters.my hat off to ash gammon the heart of a lion and look forward to the rematch.

Congrats Sir Dale!! Great show mate and despite all the hurdles you pulled it off.

Just like to say well done to our first timers Nick and Nathen they did well on there first outings I thought.

Also like to mention the St Georges fans. Great support for there guys and very vocal!! Unfortunatly I only managed to see the first round of Ash's fight as we had to get our man to hospital with a dislocated shoulder so am looking forward to the dvd!

Nice to put a face to the name after meeting Shawn at the show. Your lads accounted for half the crowd I think Shawn. Well done to Rik on his win and to Ash! From reading the thread it was an awsome fight.

Well done Qas!! I completely missed this one. Heard the bell for the start, when I got from the changing room to the bar area it was all over. Seen that guy fight before and he was no mug so great show Qas.

Sorry to Jon, Mick, Jamie, Craig and the girls for not saying goodbye. We had to shoot in a rush. Well done Jamie 1st round KO Saturday in Scotland. Ill get you a drink next time mate.

Once again thanks for having us on Dale.

Congratulations Dale on a quality show and on recieving on your world title belt!

The Gammons and their much talked about fans absolutely made this show both their fights were awesome thanks to cracking performances and the vocal support which created an amazing atmosphere. Ricky showed one of the best demonstrations of sheer power ive ever seen in FC and i agree Shawn i cant think of anyone at that weight who hits as hard or can match him for size and physical strength. He's gonna be hard to beat and i'd back him against all but the very top 75 kg fighters at this time and he's still improving so the futures bright. This result adds real spice to this division and makes Ricky a major player. 2008 will be exciting!

Ashley and Simons fight was simply amazing and i agree with the comparisions Neil made with the Gatti Ward trilogy. Again never seen such back and forth action in a fc fight just when you thought one was on his way out he'd blast back and have the other guy reeling! Awesome. Very impressive and congratulations need to go to Ricky and Ash but also to Shawn and Keg who've done an amazing job with the lads!!

Qas - pure class and the future of the sport imho. Missed the finishing shot as it was so quick. Would have liked to see more but when qas hits someone like that they usually stay hit so what can you do?

Congrats to Jez from Jesters on his first win too. You showed real grit and determination mate you should be proud.

Hard luck to Dave Lockwood. Its rough to lose on a cut but i'm sure he'l be back. Maybe at 72.5 as i think that division would suit him better?? The Gammons are a look into the future also as they prove you can carry a lot of size at a relatively light weight. You see this in boxing and it may be the way forward??

lol so you dont fancy the trip to barnsley then..

must be the rotherham in me.. but just shows difference of opinions mick agreed with you on the fight me and one judge had it the same actual techniques landed goes to dave effectivness and damage no doubt go to ricky.. but which wins power over work rate.. beauty is in the eye on that one...

gonna be a tough one to beat.. but think the next step is gonna have to raise your profile put your own shows on and fly them in... gonna be even harder to find matches for ricky at that weight too dangerous... safe bet would be to have him in the 80's the guys are too weak in comparison at 75k... but thats my opinion not been wrong since 1984!!! lol get some shows on lad... ;-)

but main point ricky is a good ticket seller he's affordable for his needs

That would be me. Hi Jon and Shaun.

Dave Lockwood is a first class fighter. He never got going in the fight for reasons explained above.

Ricky threw a lot of shots which Dave took on the glove and as a reult, did not score. Dave was cute and clever with scoring. I had him 1 point up at the time the fight was stopped.

Ricky is still a relative newcomer and a truly powerful fighter. Some of the bombs he threw would have taken a lesser fighter out in round 1.

As you come up against real class fighters Shaun, your lads will learn and improve and as Jon said if the fight had have gone on you would have learned a lot about how Ricky would fair at this level.

We all learned that he can do it though and well done to him and congratulations on cementing your place in the top 10.

I look forward to seeing Dave lockwood again soon as i really rate the guy. Great kicks, great defence and good boxing skills. Modest and honest to.

Posted: 2007-12-03 06:40:34
For the record i had it either Ricky 1 up or possibly even. Definately gave the second to Ricky and the third to Dave (as Rickys work rate dipped) but the first was very close and i couldnt decide if Ricky's power earned him the round or if the defence accuracy and variety that Dave showed in the last minute could have pulled him even in that one. Leaning towards Ricky tho as even tho he probably only landed the same amount of punches and kicks (or possibly slighlty more kicks actually) in that round they were more damaging so for me that may enable him to nick it. Credit to Dave who took a lot on the gloves. Even then tho Rickys shots were moving him physically, sometimes right across the ring!!

Thing is with scoring it is subjective and i can see both arguments that have been stated but thats why we have three judges.......Plus i may review it on DVD and see a whole other fight as can often be the case. Love this sport i do!!!!!!!!!

No one was taking any credit away from your lad shaun. everyone has been possitive about everything to do with St George all weekend. The fans were great, both fighters magnificent.

People are just trying to be helpfull about what happens next. I wish both of them luck.

Its a different fight when your not in the corner and your impartial. I was just pointing out how cute some fighters can be. there are not many with a better all round game than Dave lockwood though and Ricky did very well. I would love to see a rematch as it was shaping up to be a great fight.

Your correct in pointing out just what an achievment it is to come so far in a year and just think how far they can go in the next year or 2. Frightening"

Good luck.

DOnt take offence at the discussion about the scoring mate its only cos people are fans of the sport and are speaking about it the way football fans would discuss the match down the pub. Its good that everyones talking as it shows the interest the fight and Ricky's performance generated. Thing is scoring was probably irrelevent to Ricky's fight plan as i always felt that his time was early where as Daves would be late so Ricky's main goal had to be to put as much damage and wear and tear on Dave early not pick up points but be effective and this he did as despite Daves amazing chin Ricky just made a mess of his face to the point where he couldnt continue. Thats impressive stuff!

Wheres the pictures Mr ISKA Champion o whole wide world (except Barnsley which i believe is exempt!!lol)

Whats next for Ricky? Dave Lockwood was ranked above Dean Sugden at that weight does that put Ricky above Dean? what are the chances of Ricky vs Dean? Or does Dave get a rematch due to cuts stoppage??

Dean was promoted back above Dave after a protest and a stewards enquiry. lol.

Ricky will go above Dave in the rankings at 75k as the ranking rules are if you beat the ranked fighter then you go above them, that keeps things nice and simple.

Dean does not really fight at Uk level, and has only fought once at 75k so thats a question for the future i guess.

Ash is ranked at 72k at the mo, perhaps Shaun will tell us if he intends to carry on at that weight.

He's gone quite for a change lol. Where are ya Shaun? Not in Ireland looking for fights I hope?

Fair point Mark, its difficult with rankings in these sorts of divisions as the difference between one ranking and another - for example number 3 and number 2 - can be huge in terms of levels. What advice would you give to a younger/lower level fighter like myself or Ricky who were looking at jumping up to that kind of level or at least up by one level? I'm accepting that its gonna take a while but i just wondered what your thoughts were?

Mick

You need to fight all of the challengers at domestic level, so patience is the game. Get the experience, take on alcomers (in your own time if need be) and then move up to european, then world level. It aint easy which is why not every division has this class of fighter.

That is what all of the domestic fighters at the top of their game have done. People in this class are Stacy Gosden, John Orchard, fran Zucalla, Marlon and Dean. Nick Gill is just moving into this bracket. Most of the other divisions are still sorting themselves out on a domestic level.

The top guys usually fight overseas opposition, and only fight a fellow Brit when there is something to be gained, like this weekend.

The rankings then deem them almost untouchable, for want of a better word.

Hope that is some kind of an answer, and it is just my opinion.
