Judging Seminar, June 27th Heywood. Sorry that should be Bury, I get confused easily these days.
I will be holding a judging seminar with Tony Myers on June 27th at my gym in Bury, Lancs. This will be the third one I have done and all have been very seccesful with increasing attendance as more and more people realise this is the way to go. Anyone who attends the seminar and wants to can shadow judge my show (which will be in Heywood) the day afterwards.
I am unsure yet whether we will be doing just a seminar or a seminar and formal assessment. If we decide to do the assessment as well, anyone who attends the course can do the assessment, but they do not need to. It is fine to just do the assessment for the knowledge alone, I know not many peole actually want to do the assessment, they just use the course to increase their knowledge.
I need to gauge the requirments of people, so if anyone is interested in the course, the assessment or both please let me know either by email on darren@gfcmuaythai.co.uk or give me a ring on 07939 277 002.
As soon as I know which way we are going I can post start times etc.
I have 2 people for the assessment. Looking forward to it. Not often that you get the opportunity to learn from experts.
I have one person for the seminar and two for the assessmnt.
Interest for the seminar is quite high, understandably for the assessment not as high. Not sure which way we are doing this, will know more hopefully by the end of the week
I should have 5 for it mate, and I want to do the assessment speak to you at reebok
You know I've got 2 that want to do both the seminar and the assessment.
hi daz, im keen for course and assesment.
There has a been a great deal of interest in this, but still some places left. Please let me know anyone who is interested, need to keep the numbers to a managable figure.
Dazza i want to come too x
Interest is high, If everyone who is definately coming can confirm to me please would be good, also an indication if you are just doing the seminar, seminar and assessment or making your mind up on the day.
Cheers
Darren
There will be me and my Daughter Hannah for the seminar and assessment.
Kyle and Conlan are both looking forward to this. A long day to do both, but well worth it, and it'll help keep Kyle focused for Sundays fight and away from his playstation lol
It definitely was a long day lol, was a struggle for Conlan, but I don't think I've seen Kyle that attentive for that long when not in front of the Xbox ha ha.
Thanks Darren and Tony :-)
Thank you to everyone who turned up today. Whilst thre was loads of interest, there where also lots of pull outs, suprisingly (or not) mainly from gyms that never understand when they loose!!
Despite that we had over 40 at the seminar and about half taking the assessment although most mainly for there own personal knowledge rather than a desire to judge.
Pete was there with his camera and hoepfullt will post acouple of pics on here when he gets chance.
Thank you again to Tony, who had to risk life and limb by ducking out on part of a "hen" night to be with us
A difficult assessment followed a comprehensive and professional course. Well done Tony and Daz. Even if we don't pass the assessment, the knowledge gained is still more than you can expect to gather in one seminar. Thanks to you both.
I agree with Pete these courses are well worth it for the knowledge you gain not just on judging but Muay Thai in general Tony Myers will improve the way in which you're students fight by helping you understand the scoring system better.
A big thank you to Tony & Darren for another brilliant course and assessment...Phil

Great seminar very informative definately worth doing!
Cheers Daz, enjoyed it....... My assessment results should be interesting!!! lol
Thank you to everyone who gave up their Saturday morning to attended the seminar and thank you for the positive comments I have received. Most of all, thank you to Daz for organising everything and for his and Maxine's usual hospitality.
I think the standard of Muay Thai in the UK is improving all the time and the more coaches, fighters and officials that understand the sport, the better it will get.
It was great to see so many attempting what is a challenging assessment, whether for their own interest or because they are intend becoming a judge. I will look at the assessments by next weekend and get back to Daz with percentages and general feedback. I am not sure how many will achieve the 80%, but if you do or don't it is always work in progress for a judge and consistently improving knowledge is important, so nobody fails but some might not have passed quite yet.
In actual fact, a number of very accomplished judges failed their initial assessments but their persistence, perseverance and desire to understand paid off and they are now excellent judges. One particular individual whose resolve I particularly admire, actually failed at least four attempts at the assessment until things suddenly clicked and then they couldn't stop getting 100%. The moral of the story is, if those doing the assessment don't get 80% this time, see it as a valuable learning experience...getting things wrong is an essential part of eventually getting it right.
