Kickboxing rules with leg kicks is slowly coming back to shows near you soon!!!
I have already been putting on bouts and even titles under kickboxing ruiles with leg kicks.
We already have FC everywhere we look and every FC or thai show is doing Oriental rules (made popular to to eeryone wanting to tell their mates they are a K-1 fighter).
Lets finally spread kickboxing as it was supposed to be.
Low kick kickboxing will be like this.
All fighters in shorts, kicks allowed to body legs and head.
Quite simply, kickboxing rules without any complications (i..e no clinch or restricted clinch and no rules on not being able to kick the legs)
The next show i am doing will have fights under these rules.
Get in touch if you want to be involved under these rules.
Farhad
I have a show on March 27th here in ireland with low kick fights on it (oriental rules)and train all my students in this fashion. I am always looking for matches in this style and am finding it hard to find people who will fight this style especially Juniors.
so count me in :)
hmm, I dunno. Knees are an awesome thing to watch. Once I saw a K-1 event, I never really enjoyed watching KB/Low-kicks after that.
There was once an attempt by US orgs to have a version of oriental rules where you could knee someone but without a clinch, so... flying knees, basically. I think they called this international rules. I only remember one match with those rules and only 2 knees where thrown.
I really think K-1 got something right the compromise of knees with limited clinching.
I agree with you Brian on K-1 getting somehting right as now everyone is doing it.
However when it comes down to FC rules or Low kick, id say low kick every day of the week.
I would love to see more thaiboxers fight under low kick-kickboxing rules.
What do the rest of you think?
Ross Barrett, sounds like you have the right idea towards kickboxing. One day maybe we can have irish fighters come over to fight?
Same old argument but why would someone want to train Muay Thai and then fight under restricted rules?
Sorry mate but training under muay thai rules then going for a kickboxing fight is ridiculous. Might as well train in thai boxing then take a tae kwon do light contact match for all the relevence of it.
we will always travel anywhere,
are you committed to any show on the 27th, as i am still looking to match a few fighters?
yeah we in the uk need to move with the times
i get bored of holding the pads full contact but enjoy low kick and knee adds to the fun but our gym fight any rules
looking for more shows to compete on

one of the best low-kick shows was..
the High Octane show in Derby last year...
I personally enjoy all versions of Kickboxing: National Rules (above waist), Int'l Rules (leg kicks), K-1 and Muay Thai, and think there's great demand for all. When i used to fight i preferred above waist kicks to fight under (probably because i couldn't stand receiving leg kicks!)
I think if we're gonna see kickboxing in general expand with the general public, i think it will probably be Full Contact National Rules or K1 formats moreso than the others.
i thought low kick rules once it was hard work cos the guy was miles bigger than me, but i was dying to knee or elbow him when he got close, wouldnt ever do it again unless for big money
I understand completely the views of such as JD, Nepilihim and also Liam Harrison.
However some VERY VERY good thaiboxers , Liam included have fought under low kick rules and won world title under that discipline.
Other examples include Eval Denton, Kirkwood Walker, Kevin Harper, Shaun Johnson , Mark Russell and many many more.
I personally think it is a good middle ground.
Imagine this as a dream, FC fighters VS Thaiboxers under low kick kickboxing rules.
The thai boxers cant clinch and knee, etc. The kickboxers have to fight bare shin AND learn to block a leg kick!!!
WHO will come out on top?
The kickboxers as long as you score it like low kick. Remeber we hit for effect. Not score the touch alone.
Well Im fighting Christian Di Paolo in Oriental Rules April 18th.
Im a seasoned FC Fighter and Christian a seasoned ThaiBoxer.
I had the upper hand in our last bout and won the WAKO PRO FC World Title.
This time its with Lowkicks and Knees.
Will be a great bout, as I believe Christian is one of the best fighters in the World and is a great guy also.
what are the rules in Kickboxing low kick then? is it just punch and kick to leg/body/head?
can you front kick the leg/body/head too?
also can you block kicks like in thai or do you have to move out the way of them?
and how is it scored....
thanks x
yeah you can do all those things marianne.
i dont know if i could stop myself kneeing!
sounds alright though, better than kicks above the waist only!
The old kickboxing low kick style (which they used to call kickboxing, the above the waist used to be full contact, from the term full contact karate) only allowed low kicks to the outside of the leg, no knees etc.
K1 has turned it all on its head with limtited Thai techniques. I would say forget the old lowkick rules and just move forward with a set of rules based on K1.
When I have watched all of the different rules in action, my favourite is full thai. I hate watching c class though as just to much time in clinch. K1 is my next favourite but with only 2 weight divisions it makes it a bit of a joke.
I think its a nice variation of kickboxing and i like it cos kicks can be more effective and youv'e got more target but the main issue i would see for a lot of MT fighters would be getting out of the habit of catching kicks. As a kickboxer i cant get used to having my kicks caught so i would imagine that a MT fighter would struggle to fight the instinct to grab body kicks etc?
Plus for kickboxers to add low kicks is a progression but to take away some of MT's most devastating weapons like clinch, elbow and knee is like a step backwards so i cant see why they'd want to do it? I would imagine its like fighting with a handicap?
You can only really judge a fighter in the context of his own style encompassing all his/her weapons imo. The addition/restriction of one or several techniques can dramatically change the way a fight plays out.
What is interesting i guess is if those fighters agree to fight twice under different rules in a similar way to Marlon and Christian.
This is my old kickboxing rules. Used to be good, if you train in thai you can compete on this set. Most dont do full rules anyway.
This was always the "Compromise" between the FC and TB fighters in the 80`s and gave some great bouts that would never have happened !!
Agreed i think its about time we had some of those fighters from FC and MT backgrounds compromise.
As said above - it's a step backwards for MT guys. Technically, K1 rules is a bit of a step backwards but the format and judging of it serves to keep it interesting and the quality of K1 fighters is definately worth watching. The biggest step backwards however is the scoring and unfortunately, full contact kickboxings scoring system is a major step backwards for muay thai.
As soon as you reward fighters for the EFFECT of their shots, you'll start to see them adapt and kick more like thais. That's why the majortiy of good K1 fighers look like thia boxers, even when they train in something else.
As said before - "K1 rules" seems to be the optimal compromise.
Of course it is a step backwards but i have seen many Thaiboxers fight and WIN under FC rules. If they can do so under FC rules, then under Low kick rules it will be more to their palate so to speak.
Also titles are up for grabs in this discipline ;)
Watch this space.
I'll be honest man, I still don't see any respectable thai boxers really even wanting to compete under this ruleset never mind win a title at it but best of luck anyways.
