By any chance did you see a Monkong lying around as you all left the other night? We "misplaced" ours :-( If you don't know what it looks like, it's a rope styled one in Blue, Red and White.

If you found it or know anyone who has please let me know or contact the gym through mail@fightingfitgym.co.uk

yes well done lesley u done well.i realy expected more frome hillary after hearing about her win in thailand.i expected her work rate to b far more superior and ,i expected she would have worked on her guard.her guard gonna pose her loads of problems if she comes up against a good strong boxer.like ure style hillary but u realy gonna need to work on ure guard coz one of thes days u gonna come up against a good strong boxer and they gonna hurt u big time.i feel if lesley had more fire in her belly and would hve boxed u she would have easily beaten u

Thats very unfair as Hilary won imo easily also, its no time to say you should have done this and that, she won a title against a strong fighter she can and will improve on it.
Muaythai King
Posted: 2005-05-07 12:00:46
I heard Hilary had the cold thus short on breath alot. Is that true Brain? She looked abit tired at times but never the less Leslie had nothing that Hilary had to worry about really.

Rab Burt, and Matt Duncan did very well. I like those two fighters, especially after Matt has come back from Thailand. He has improved a hell of alot and is good to watch.
Briancal
Posted: 2005-05-07 13:41:53
Yes Vinny it is very unfair to say the least and to be honest the whole post is very disrespectful to both girls. I want to say alot more about that post but I'm not going to.

Muaythai King : I'm not going to comment on Hilary's situation, maybe Hilary herself could answer that question. She won and thats all that matters to everyone at Caledonian.

I think youve got to keep in mind that ax is a discusion board, if we all had the same opinion it would get boring and die on its arse, as for the hillary lesley fight, i didnt watch all of it , but to me hillary took it fair and square to me she was much stronger hitting much harder and defending better, michelle does know what she is talkin about and, mabye she expected more from hillary, but the fact is hillary does have a wide guard, and going against a good boxer she will struggle. but she is a strong girl she has a cracking left hook and she moves round the ring very well. to question a fight is not disrespectfull it is only engaging debate. if you deny anyone thier opinion your on the wrong board.

Every fighter has their strong points and points which they have to work on, I agree that everyone is entitiled to their opinion and without knowing the background to a fighter it is easy to make judgements. As a close friend of Hil's I know all the challenges she was up against without even stepping inside of the ring and MuayThai King you are correct in saying she was down with the cold. I know that there are a few people who sometimes give Leslie bad press but having foughht her myself she is a strong opponent and should not be underestimated. After the win in Thailand you may have expected more but don't forget that many factors can affect a fighter's performance including jet lag and having to gain 4 kgs in 6 days (or try to anyhow). Anyone who spoke to Hil after the fight will know she is the first to admit she didn't fight to her best ability and that she has things to work on, but what makes a fighter is to fight, learn and fight again.

It to seems a blatant attack its upto Guy to sort out her faults not to be on here to be scrutinised, both did well, both deserve credit.

hillary is a smashing girl and a good fighter , all fighters have thier strengths and weaknesess, and their performances are often discused on this board, i think its more of a compliment that people are talking an interest in someone who is up and coming with a good future in the sport, and not just in the superstars. credit is due to anyone who steps through the ropes , but as many a footballer, boxer or even golfer will tell you the minute you put yourself "up thier" you will be faced with public scrutiny and while we all hope that our performers get good press we also have to accept that thier will always be commments about the negative side of a performance, youve just got to accept it as part of being in public

Yeah everyone is entitled to their opinion but I can assure you that no instructor would be happy if someone came on here and basically slaughtered their fighter. At the end of the day that post was made about that one particular fight. You can't judge a person on one fight, and I haven't denied anyone their opinion we all now know her opinion. And to say "i feel if lesley had more fire in her belly and would hve boxed u she would have easily beaten u" that to me is very disrespectful to say the least.

The first person to criticise Hil's performance was Hil. I also know Hil well enough that the harshest criticism will also come from her. Caledonian had fighters on at 22 shows last year, winning some, losing less. I have never felt the need to justify wins or excuse losses. In this case, I would like to give some feedback. Firstly, Thailand is not a magic pill, creating overnight differences, indeed much of the time is spent reworking entire techniques and footwork, over months this will certainly lead to an improvement. Over 2-3 weeks? Hil was offered a fight within days of arriving in kaewsamrit, as the trainers saw her potential. Because of this opportunity, Hil did not train after the fight to allow some injury recovery, then flew home on the monday. Jet lag and the cold worked on her system, and despite moving up a weight category, with a two week lay off managed to fight for 5 rounds against a fit and hard working Keltie. Please do not misunderstand my intent - I knew Lesley was ready and able, and had obviously trained hard for this one - I am only trying to point out that a variety of background factors affect fighters that often go unknown. This is not meant to censor criticism, indeed, we do not improve without it. Hil returned to hard training two days after the show, and is now working hard towards her american showdown in new york, 10th june.

Posting an objective opinion about a fighter’s performance from a club other than your own is always a difficult thing to do as it can very easily be misconstrued as taking a pot shot at the fighter. In this case I know for a fact that Michelle was definitely not. I have spoken to Michelle on numerous occasions about which fighters we enjoy watching and Hillary is always been someone who Michelle has buckets of respect for. I’m not going to enter the who should have done what, when debate as I’m friends with both Hillary and Leslie and I personally don’t feel comfortable analysing another instructors students but that’s just me.

Let`s be glad that we have strong female role models to look to and be inspired by.....[no offence guys].
Hilary is the epitome of a true martial artist..........demonstrating humility & lack of ego....a wonderful athlete for everyone @ Caley to be inspired by.
That`s not to take away from Leslie,or anyone else.Respect to all.

am sure you never meant it the way it came across.

wow wow wow ......every1 slow down n turn the bunny boiler off...after spking to my instructor on the fone this morning i was advised to come back and read the response to the post i had made.i will back my instructor as he has backed me by saying ax is a discussion board where discussions and debates take place.if i can not come on ax and voice my thoughts and opinions then i am not taking full advantage of ax as a whole.

secondly i quote wot mr guy ramsey and mark hendry (yoda) have said. "please do not misunderstand my intent" and "easily misconstrued"....this is exactly wot has happened here.firstly briancal i in kno way direspect any of these 2 girls, i have nothing but admaration for the pair of them .i admire the way hilary fights i love her style, the way she uses the ring and as stevie says wot a lovely right hook she has..however as i said i am entitled to my opinion and personly i think hillary has a very wide guard which is one of her weaker atributes .as a coach, fighter, and judge i kno everyone has strengths and weaknesess and hillarys wide guard is her weakness.however i am sure through time and with the help of her very well respected and top class coach mr guy ramsay i am sure hillary will improve on this and become a very good if not one of the best all round female thai fighters in scotland in that weight category....so here here mr briancal u tell me which part of hillary i disrespect ....enuff said on that point..

3rdly as for disrespecting lesley kielty braincal u have got i way way wrong and misunderstood my intent again...having fought lesley kielty i have nothing but reapect for this girl. i fought lesley early on in her fight career knowing wot she was capable of then..i'm talking nearly 3 yrs ago ...i have watched lesley grow into the fighter she is now and i kno she is stronger and more capable than she was back then.
all i was saying was if lesley had read how wide hillarys guard was she could have posed hillary with a few problems and over the 5 rounds i think she would have beaten hillary.i don't consider this as disrespect i consider this to b my opinion...and if i am not intitled to this then maggie thatcher shld have been my 2nd in command lmao.

ok getting back to vinny now ... hi there matey ....i was in no way disrespecting or blatantly attacking any of these 2 girls i'm sure if u read up the page u will now fully understand the post i made.

all thats left to say now is sorry for the disruption folks and i wish both these girls all the best for the future.
i would especially like to say good luck to hillary for her trip to america go girl go i and i am sure the rest of the thai community in scotland are 100% behind you.

i just want to fight thai, i dont want involved in any of the politics that seems to go with it, much of which stems from unnecessary comments made on ax which seems to introduce some bias and bad feelings at times.
stevie nisbet
Posted: 2005-05-15 13:18:52
"i just want to fight thai, i dont want involved in any of the politics that seems to go with it" good for you davy, but why come on and accuse me of having a problem with you "after all you are associated with nisbett who seems to have a problem with me". that comment was unfair and unfounded, i dont even know you, i recognise your name as one of guys students but thats it. i even looked on his site to find a photo of you to see if i recognised you but thier wasnt one.
if you are refering to the fact that my prediction was for gordon ross to beat you the you need to realise that i made several predictions on the fights as did many others and im sure that none of the other fighters took issue. i predicted that pete chung would lose and i am very friendly with both him and his coach and have had the pleasure of promoting him and i hope to do so again in the future.
if as you say you dont want involved in politics , dont sling mud,
this is a discussion board and everyone has thier right to opinions (as i have said many times)but make sure if your gonna have a pop at someone you have the facts davy. (as i have learned myself see british amatuer champs thread)

obviously everyone thought he would beat me, look at the size difference, im not taking anything away from gordon, he beat me fair and square and i was talking to him after and he s a nice guy. having said that, i have no problem at all with people giving opinions or predictions, i do think its unfair to come on ax and voice your bias as a judge, as in a previous thread 'go on the jinga ninja' when you were judging at that show. nothing personal, opinions are fine, but there s a time and a place for them if you are judging.
stevie nisbet
Posted: 2005-05-15 14:48:50
is that what the dig was about.lol
i have known the ginja hinja since his second fight, i like him and respect him, when that post was put up it was 3 weeks before the show i probly didnt even know i was judging, THAT FIGHT WAS LAST YEAR, if you think i have a problem with you come and tell me or your coach,
the fighters that i have gotten to know and like i will always support, but when i sit at ringside i will ALWAYS BE OBJECTIONAL. as all the judges i know aim to be.
as for bias having a judge as a friend fellow student or trainer will more often than not go against you,
other fighters who i like, are lloyd, rab burt, gordon ross, hillary, naomi, keltie. jarvie, bellyboy , stacy , john dick, gordon ross, dom mcpaden, matt duncan, mike murray, chungy, scott ness, wandsy, big kenny ho, steven miekle, jake donachie, big ally, greame ness, mark grainger , mitch, and a good few more , some of them i like as ppl some i like as fighters, all will get a fair crack of the whip when im judging as do all fighters. if you think im biased speak to your coach, but this whole accusationm is bullshit

for evidence of my alleged biased

im not making an accusation, just think what it must look like from my point of view, and if you didnt know me, what position are you in to make predictions. as i said before, nothing personal
stevie nisbet
Posted: 2005-05-15 16:31:05
you did make an accusation you dug up this thread which hadnt been posted on for 3 days and wrote
after all you are associated with nisbett who seems to have a problem with me.

that young man is an accusation against both me and michelle.

as for your point of view , i know you have spoken to guy about this and if for 1 second he thought that any of his fighters were in danger of being cheated by a judge he wouldnt have them at ringside, so your point of view is distorted.

i am in the same position as any other person on this board to make predictions , some predictions are made knowing both fighters some by knowing more about 1 than the other, in this case it was made cos i have seen gordon fighting a few times and know him to be a good fighter, and i knew bugger all about yourself.

1 more thing

i designed the posters for both ruchill and milton.
i supplied officials for both events.
i even designed the licences that you have.
i am co-promoting caledonians next tournament.
when guy was putting the ruchill show together i offered to do anything , i even offered to be a ring runner if it would help.
i have known guy for about 5 yrs and have the utmost respect for him and his fighters. i have, and will always treat them fairly.

i do not apreciatte having my integrity questioned.
YOU ARE WRONG

if you have a problem talk to guy, more importantely LISTEN to him

I never meant for all this to become so personal. I was simply stating something I felt and I never intended it to turn into this. Perhaps I wasn't 100% on this occasion but there have been a number of incidences on ax, direct or otherwise, which appear to have been a "pop" at me and I have never felt the need to say anything until now. I'm in this sport because I enjoy it, I was simply stating my thoughts on the matter and as I said before, it wasn't necessarily meant to be personal. Also I would like to reiterate that accusations were not my intention.
