My opponent wasn’t able to attend so my fight was pulled. Was a real heavy blow after training so hard. Thankfully I'm fighting in 3 weeks so my focus is now on that.

A big thanks to all who were involved with the show today. Some excellent fights, with a lot of good novices coming through the ranks. Great crowd and atmosphere.

Anyone got any pics from this show? Also was I the only person who thought the judging was a little suspect for the last 2 fights?

The judges on duty at the show are all well trained, well practiced, experienced individuals who take their job very seriously indeed. In my opinion, the judging was rock solid throughout.

although i was down as one of the judges i didnt actually officiatte on the day, ( i spent my time chasin my 2 kids round the hotel). as far as the 2 last fights went. the ladies fight went to the red as amongst other things the blue fighter was holding ropes when striking and hooking her leg behind her opponents leg during grappling , both of which do not score , many of her shots landed on her opponents arms and not on the body, it was a very close fight but i believe this is the small differences that swung it to the red corner.
the last fight while the blue corned dominated outside the grapple the red corner dominated inside , the majority of the fight was within the grapple ergo red wins what was also a very close fight.

Mmmm.. I thought the fights were scored on all techniques not just kneeing alone as in the last fight thats all the guy that won did. I guess I must look at it differently as thought the other guy was more aggresive and showed good technique in all areas, granted the guy who won did throw more knees but dunno how many actually were effective. Also is it true the guy who lost had been out of the game for 3 years or something? Over heard a few people talking about him. He did well if thats the case and shouldn't be too disappointed he lost then.

You are correct in thinking that bouts are scored on all techniques. The level of the score awarded being directly related to the visible effect which the technique has on the other boxer. 'Aggression' and 'Good Technique' are wonderful qualities but are no guarantee of success.

For example:- Fighter A moves forward aggressively and delivers a combination which demonstrates good technique. If Fighter B can easily block or walk through the combination, then Fighter A's efforts would attract no score.

It should also be borne in mind that certain techniques are considered to be the 'very best, Primary scoring techniques', a 'technique heirarchy' if you like.

There are fairly regular Judge and Referee courses held in Scotland. Attendance is open not just to officials, but also to fighters and to anyone who is interested in enhancing their knowledge of Muay Thai rules and scoring practice.
