This promises to be Scotland's largest and most exciting martial arts event ever! The POWER OF SCOTLAND event is being promoted by John O’Brien and Gary O’Brien and will feature Muay Thai, Kickboxing and MMA and will be filmed for Sky Eurosport.

The Lineup is being finalised, but some of the names already on this show are:

With others like Stevie Houston (making a highly anticipated comeback to the ring), Gary O’Brien, Rab Weir, John Douglas, James Jarvie, also featuring on the show.

Competing in MMA will be Cagewarriors Champion Paul “Mad Dog” McVeigh and James Doolan (STBA Scottish Muay Thai Light Welterweight Champion).

We are also trying to arrange an 8-man Knockout tournament at 63.5 kg and if ANY fighter is interested please let us know. Fight Purses for this tournament will be £1,000 for winner, £500 for runner-up, £300 Semi-finalist, £100 entry. Some of the names already put forward for this are:

This will be an exciting show and we’d just like to thank everyone for the interest and support so far, it will be a great event!

garyobrien30@yahoo.co.uk

Chad - the fight isn't for a title, but will be a cracker and a chance for Graeme to show he can hold his own against one of the best featherweights in Europe, I think Graeme will surprise a lot of people!

No problem Gary, was only trying to insinuate that you're calling me fat, which at the moment I am :-( ....lol

Not trained for three weeks. Came back from Thailand early, just wanted a break and didn't have the urge to train whilst there which I know is a HUGE waste of a great opportunity so I just come home.

But our gym opens up again on Tuesday and I can't wait to get back, so yeee haa.

yoda...no i didn't fight on that show at all....haven't fought since last february actually against the ninja here.....got caught up in triathlon and spent the year racing around ireland doing it.
I'm back in the game now though, and wanna have as many fights as is possible over the next few years...the bodies getting old so I need to abuse it while I still can.

Andrew...I'm away with work for the weekend that show is on...otherwise I'd definitely go over, to watch if not to fight in it myself....that 8 man tourney looks very enticing.

Michaelrobbiejohnson, there may be another Kickboxing fight as Craig bradford has asked to fight on the show, but as you can imagine there is a lot of fighters wanting on the show, so comes down to seeing what fights we can arrange and what everyone will want to see!

Vinny, I was going to predict Graeme ness causing an upset but all this fat and no training talk has ended that one! LOL.

Brendan, if your plans for work change let us know mate, as it would be good to open up the tourny to fighters outside Scotland so that Rung isn't the only non-Scot.

We basically want the best 63.5kg fighter we can get, the bigger the names the more prestigious it will be. We also have Rung from Thailand (now living in Scotland) fighting. We also don't have 8 Scottish or British fighters available, as we had a few early pullouts before Christmas, so we’re quite happy to open it up to international fighters.
Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2006-01-10 08:00:41
Sorry slight confusion, the £100 entry means they get at least £100 for entering even if the get knocked out at the first round. Our apologies, doesn’t come across very clearly. You win your 1st fight and get beat in the semi’s then you get £300. If you get to the final and lose you £500. £1000 for the winner.

I did say, "We basically want the best 63.5kg fighter we can get"

Obviously anyone would love any of those fighters on their show!

But this show is a huge step for the sport in Scotland as it is, to attempt to pull off an event with the names you mentioned is fairytale stuff. The fighters that have already submitted their names are more than happy with the purse and it should also be added that each will earn 20% commission on their ticket sales to help us draw in a large crowd. In fact, to their credit, all of the fighters we have been in contact with just want to be part of such a big event regardless of the financial reward and help promote Muay Thai in Scotland

This will be an exciting event if the K1 Max Scotland was anything to go by and I’m delighted with all of the names we have down for the event. I cannot wait!
Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2006-01-10 08:23:39
Thanks thaisingh! Tickets are not long out and going very well, in fact John has asked me to urge anyone wanting the VIP ringside tables to get them now! We are still over 2 months away from the event but these are going fast and will be limited!

Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2006-01-10 09:08:05
Where did Thaisingh's comments go?
Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2006-01-10 09:15:36
I think they’ve been deleted by the mod's he must have got a bit controversial. Just so that it doesn't look like I was talking to myself, here is the basic context of them, the last three comments I made were in response to comments about:

Why make the 8-man tourny international and why not just keep it domestic?

Confusion that the fighter had to pay to enter. As opposed to being paid for competing.

Is the prize money enough to attract the best 63.5kg fighters out there, Namsaknoi etc?

Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2006-01-10 12:17:14
I have just collected another 650 tickets from Ticketmaster, so anyone that wants a block of tickets let me know asap, as I alredy have 350 on hold for people! After this batch tickets will only be issued on garenteed sales with no option for return.

It's hard not to put your money on Crooke, But it's a great chance for the under-dog to show his minerals:) At the very least Ness will be able to see what it's like at the top and how far he has to go. And you never know stranger things have happened;). I am really looking frward to that 1.

Loopy, there will be a few junior and warmup fights on from 12-2, then the main event will kick off at 2 with the first round of the 8man tourny, then half of the fights, the 8man Semi-finals, the 2nd group of fights featuring all the Full Thai fights etc. and finished off with the final of the 8man!

As for predictions, you are braver than me. We tried to create as many matches which could go either and i think they all fall into that catogry! As for the 8man, I reckon anyone could cause an upset, as it is the luck of the draw and an early injury could put anyone out, really exciting!

Not sure about that one mate, John done that one so I'll check with him tonight. We're doing different jobs which is great to share the load, but communication often breaks down!

Sorting out a few matches with Superpro to bring over a few Belgian/Dutch, but those will hopefully all be confirmed over the weekend!

Yeah, their are a few STBA guys that cross paths from time to time and 2 names thrown in from fighting fit, but I know that all of the STBA guys will be true professionals and just get down to it! Especially with the prize and being a main feature on the show being a good incentive.

Already trying to arrange it Loopy!

What about the other fights any thoughts?

I think Tim T is definitely the favourite, but on their day both are great and I have a feeling Rab can cause an upset.

I think the Crooke and Ness fight is going to be another close one and again think Graeme can put himself on the map with this fight.

I think J Dick and J Watt is another really close one, with the last match being debated. Watt is a tough fighter, but I wouldn't be too surprised if Dick edged it again though!

The 8 man tournament looks great. All class guys.
Rung has to be the favourite, considering his experience and ability. But does he have the stamina for 3 fights in the same day?
Tell you what ...... if I was in with Rung in his first or second fight, I'd be afraid, Very Afraid! I think he'll go for quick KO's or stoppages in his first 2, and save the style for the final. Watch out for those demon elbows guys!

Oh, and £1000 is a lump of money, especially for a Thai!

I don't think Nico is travelling all the way from Belgium just to be an 'also ran'. He is going to be very dangerous!

Good luck to them all. Brave gutsy guys.

Chad we`ve decided that only the final bout will be under full Thai rules.we would have to place another 8 fighters on standby in case of cuts from elbows, and all who are competing agreed that it`s just too risky!!

yoda
Posted: 2006-01-15 13:30:54
Full Thai rules would be purer but realistically modified rules for the 1st two round and full rules for the final will be it a lot easier to organise. The promoters are breaking new ground by putting on such a large and diverse show and should be allowed to make small modifications that won’t make a huge amount of difference to the quality of the tournament.

i think potentially a full rules tournament could become a bit borin especially inthe earlier rounds of the tournament because the fighters will be very worried about being cut and may fight nore defensively so i think the way the promoter has gone is the best way to go

Yep, I understand both points of view and can see pluses in both. This event gets my 100% support regardless of what rules are used. My own view comes from what I would regard as more aesthetically pleasing.

I also think that winning the tournament under Full Thai rules could have a very favourable effect on that fighters career.

Oh, and John O'Brien. No I didn't enter the tourney. Every one of these guys would send me to the happy hunting ground in about 8 seconds flat. (and that's me adding 5 seconds to flatter my ego)

I am "the Belgian guy" and want to say that I'm very pleased to be fighting at this show. I never competed in a tournament nor fought a schotsman. So it will be a real experience. I don't know much about them but expect though, hard headed fighters.

I promess one thing though, I'll prepare like hell. It is my purpose to please the crowd as much as possible. And that's what will happen without a doubt. It is my aim (and hope) that I'll get through the first rounds because fighting with elbows is so great. I want to whish my opponents much luck in the tournament . (not too much though, ;)

Sounds good,
to give the answer to chads question.

I fought 29 fights of which I lost 6 and had two draws. The rest I won (6 ko or technical ko)

I hold the current title -61,5 MTBB and the european title -61,5 WFCA.

So, I hope this satisfies your curiosity. If you have any questions, just fire them off.

Any fighters wanting tickets that haven't already spoke to me. I have only 200 standard tickets left from our allocation, after they are gone, tickets will have to be paid for in advance or I may possibly be able to arrange small batches of non-refundable tickets. So if you don’t get them now the people that were going to buy from you might end up going through Ticketmaster and you’ll lose your commission.

Thanks Eileen! Couldn't put it better than John, everyone has been really supportive and excited with this show! I am waiting to confirm just 3 fights and our full fight card will be posted!

Fuck, even colder dan Belgium. 18 December I returned from a 3 week training trip (Fairtex, bangplee) and the chock was enormous. From 30° C to -2° C. I wanted to return immediately. Thanks for the warnings but I think I'll manage. Before the fight(s) I am thinking all the time about techniques and after the fight wiskey will help me a lot (lol). I always thought Schots were a very interesting people. Lets see how we get along in real live.

Noi666 are you Richard Cadden? Its a pitty that you won't be able to fight in the tournament. I heard so much nice things about you so it would be really nice to fight you to test my skills.

Still trying to tie up the last couple of fights before I post the fight card, but as John said, we think it’s worth the wait! I was going to post an updated version, but it will be ready soon. Still searching for a match for Paul McVeigh (MMA).

Hi Tim, it will be good to see you fight north of the border again, really looking forward to your fight!

Colin, that’s helped us out a lot, we’ve been struggling to match Paul!

Craig, there is a bar and the VIP tables will be served so that you don’t have to miss any of the action! Only one problem, I’ve given all the bar staff your picture and told them not to serve you! LOL

Vinny, have you got any footage of Eddie Defretin, it would be a big help if we could get a look at him, as I heard he is a good fighter. Although I was told he had 11 fights and 11 wins, someone is telling porkpies!
Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2006-01-22 11:27:29
Just realised that is only 150 VIP tickets left for the show, which is only 15 tables, so if you need any can you let me know.

There is still loads of standard tickets, but we have got rid of all of our allocation, so from now on fighters will need to gather the money first and we can get a small block for them or send people to the box office, but with the box office you’ll lose your commission.

Also, if you have any tickets that you think you will need to return, can you please let me know ASAP? We are getting asked for tickets constantly and having to send people to the box office.

Hey Nico hows prep for the big tournement going?? I am going to Thailand in July but only for 4 weeks as i cant take any more time off from work in one go. I am hoping to fight whilst i am there but not sure at the moment, got other things to worry about fight wise at the moment like defending my NO:1 spot. But hopefully i will be able to fit at leasr 1 fight in while i am there. Its going to be a struggle but i am really hoping to get to this show as i would love to see what happens between Reeco and Graham but would be good to see you fight again, (and not be on the end of your jumping knees this time.) All the best to everyone fighting on the show and good luck with the show John and Gary.

The other junior bout is between two novice boys, I don't know anything about Paul Fallon, but Ritchie Hocking will be a really good fighter in the future, great technique and brilliant attitude to training!

Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2006-01-24 03:57:39
Loopy, we never expected to get near filling the venue especially in the first couple of shows, but that we'd build on the spectator base in future events and attract a lot of new spectators to the sport. We are actually hoping to pack 2/3 of the Arena (partition the rest of the Arena with the stage etc.), as this will keep the overall area more square and give everyone a better view and create a good atmosphere. This might mean that we have to stop selling tickets if they keep selling the way they are, but I think the show will benefit from it! I have CAD drawings of the layout and I it looks good. I might take some pictures of the venue this week and post them up.

Hi John, I’ve got a VIP table for you mate, I didn’t know if you definitely wanted it. 10 tables left now! Sorry you haven’t got your tickets yet, not had a chance to go to the post office, but they’ll be in the post either today or tomorrow.

Only 5 more VIP Ringside tables left. There is a chance that a few more tables might be squeezed into the seating plan during the last few weeks depending on ticket sales, but this is unlikely.

Just over 6 weeks to go and it looks like the final lineup for the 8man (unless anyone has to pull out) will still be:

Rung (Rungnakhorn) - Thailand
Nico Verresen – Belgium, Superpro
Ian McCulley – Scotland, Caledonian
Mark Grainger – Scotland, Fighting Fit
Lloyd Cochran - Scotland, NKT Barrhead
Alan Jamieson - Scotland, NKT Johnstone
Pete Chung – Scotland, Sortaskin
Arron Hain – Scotland, Fighting Fit

Its difficult to predict a winner!

Is this a bit heavy for Mark Grainger? If the other guys aren't heavier on the day,..he's in with a shot. The Belgian will probably be very good and in with a real chance, as is Lloyd and Rung Chungy and Ian and and Alan and Aaron lol
Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2006-01-26 12:06:05
Not sure about Mark's preferred weight, think he usually fights around 63kg, but goes doen to about 61kg, just guessing though! Either way, he is a tough and talented fighter with a lot of experience, I'm surprised no one has mentioned him so far. but your right Loopy, anybody could pull a result out!

Arron, we haven't planned when to make the draw, but probably the week or so before the tournament.

hers my tuppenceworth

Rung (Rungnakhorn)- maybe the favourite but will be giving a lot of hieght away
Nico Verresen - good fighter great record but is fighting above his weight, strong contender

Ian McCulley- cant knock Ian he has the hieght, technique and experience to cause an upset

Mark Grainger - been fighting a long time a fight betweenmark&rung or pete would be a classic

Lloyd Cochran - strong and aggressive will need to be able to pace himself

Alan Jamieson - good up and coming fighter possibly an outsider but he has a lot of power

Pete Chung - classy and strong but has been out of action for a while , be nice to see him back again (and his civil partner Mark "Daily Facials" Cuggy)

Arron Hain - havent seen AAron fighting for some time but i hear great things about him.

gonna be a great 1

ps i think the draw should be made on the day, will make it more intersting, Keep us all in suspense.

Yes Mr O'Brien I have my ticket. I and most of the 'Sinister Midgets' will be there

I agree that the draw should be made on the day. Adds to the pre-event fever, and also means that fighters don't have time to prepare for a specific opponent

Who's gonna win the tourney? I think the draw will have a lot to do with it, and although I don't want to be seen as unpatriotic, I would have to say that I've got a crisp £100 note on Nico Verresen.

Mind you, the possibility of a couple of Fifers knocking 7 bells out of each other, does have a certain appeal

Go Nico!

Go Nico!

Go Nico!

I will try to get you some money. It all sounds good and the preparation is going well. I have a few weeks before the tournament a fight which is also 3 rounds because of time constraints. This will allow me to readapt to 3 round bouts. So I can pick up the pace faster then usual. I'm soo motivated to get to the 3th round so I'll give my oponent(s -depending of what happens)a lot of work.

Mister O Brian, I was wondering which the scoring system is that is used in the tournament. Because I can focus then on what is rated the most. Is it Thai scoring(knees, elbows, throws, kicks which are rated more) or more european/k1 style (all attacs which are effective)?

Andy, I hope you'll be able to fight in juin but you don't have to wurry about your n°1 spot. You will hold on to it, I don't have a lot of doubt about that. You'll train as hell and give again a beatifull experience to the public.

Do you have any other fights comming up?

I'll fight as a prestige bout on the preliminaries of its showtime 40.000 E tournament Belgium against Christo Dimitrikakis. A bit more experienced than me and very technical. We'll see how I'll do but I have confidence about it.

The next fight(s) is the Schotland experience. I can't predict anything but I'll put everything on it to win this event.

In April I'll fight against Bjorn Shauffler, a German champion, in Antwerp. I don't know much about this fighter but I heard he has a lot of knock out power.

May is a busy month as I'll first defend my European title WFCA against Karim El Osrouti and 3 weeks later I'll fight against a dutchman which also promesses to be a real war.

For the months juin, july, august and september, there is not much planned but If someone needs me on his show, they can ask me and I'll be there.
In october we have our own promotion on which I (naturally) fight but the oponent is not yet arranged. In november I ll go to Thailand. If this year my schoolwork goes well I'll stay there 6 months and otherwise 1 month.

So, it will be very busy wich I am very glad about because I have been waiting already 6 months for a fight. Nothing came up and that is frustrating cause I want to go forth.

Allright, I hope I'll see you all soon.

Yes chad it's definitely possible. These are all capable guys.
A Glenrothes V Kirkaldy final would be .......well to be honest, I can't actually think of the words which would describe that properly. But let's just say that a mushroom cloud would probably become visible over Braehead.

Nico, the tournament will follow similar rules to the S1, so will be scored as Muay Thai. We'll send you some further information in the next week or two. Best of luck with everything, sounds like you've a big year ahead of you!

Just to let everyone know the VIP Ringside tickets are now all gone. Some more tables may be released closer to the event if the anticipated sale of standard tickets increases. So anyone who would like a VIP Ringside ticket should let me know and I will create a reserve list.

Hey chad, I'm bringing my hard hat, just in case.

Query:- a few names have disappeared from the 8 man tourney list. Are those guys taking on seperate fights for the show?
Gabber Boy

As far as I know they where reserve name in case anyone pulled out and to be honest it would take a lot of dieting in my part too reach the weight. 70kg now spent too much time doing weights but I have lost 8 Kg before for fight at lumpinee but that was a nightmare never spent so much time in a silver sweat suit. Well not since my raving days.

Gabber Boy, lol re the silver suit. After I visit the 'thunder box' I usually have to call out the guys in silver suits and breathing gear to neutralise the offending biohazard.
A few weeks ago it was so bad that I had to get a guy from the parks department to bring a chainsaw. lol! Talk about Yule Log!
I blame it all on that healthy bacteria yoghurt stuff.

Oh dear, there I go lowering the tone again. Sorry!

BLZbub some of those who are no longer in the tournament we are trying to get matched on the show. Andrew O` Brien is probably going over to fight in Ireland so won`t feature. The Jinja Ninja and John Cullen we are trying to find suitable opponents for; and the domestic fights will probably be juggled about a bit before the actual show. I am hoping that I will be able to announce the name of an opponent for the hugely talented MMA cage warrior Paul Mc Veigh on Monday(fingers crossed). Myself and Gary were at Braehead arena yesterday to view the light rig we have hired and finalise the layout for the show, and it`s looking stunning. Tickets are going well and it`s now a matter of counting the days.

Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2006-01-29 06:08:35
Yeah, some matches are always likely to get rearranged towards the show, just the nature of the sport, but we'll do our best to make sure nobody is unmatched.

After seeing the lighting and rigs we're even more excited about the show! The planned layout will look great and also allow everyone to get a good view of the ring. However it doesn't look as though we'll be increasing the capacity of the VIP tables by much, and instead we will be stacking rows of floor seating to use up the floor space. So anyone else wanting on the short list for tables let me know ASAP!

6 weeks in counting!!!

We will have A3 posters available from Wednesday, so please let me know if you would like some? Or even better, collect them from me at Master Sken's seminar at the School of Excellence on Sunday 5th Feb from 1-4.

There will also be another poster made and released for the last few weeks leading up to the show, so if you haven't sent me a picture or attended one of the photo-shoots, then please send one to me ASAP. The artwork will be done in the first week of Feb.

Hey Nico, glad to hear you have a busy and tough year lined up for yourself. As of yet i don't no what other fights i have lined up as my instructor Richard is still away in Thailand until next week, but when he gets back im sure he will fill me in if there is anything else coming up for me. All i no is i will be fighting in June on our gym show which is bound to be a tough test for me as Richard always brings over quality opposition. Goo luck with your preperation for the fight and i will see you there i am 90% coming to the show, i gotta be there to corner for my little scottish mate Jordan Calder.

I would love to - its not classic Muay Thai but he is good to watch, i remember the first time i saw him he is so fit and agile. Folks if you want to see a class act come and see Sken hes awesome and you will never get at it as cheap from anyone else other than tha STBA. Looking forward too it thanks too John & Gaz for bringing another class act to the school of excellence. P.S. When is alan Currie taking a class would like to see him in action, also I think Stevie Sheddon and Houston should take a class that would be hard.

Lex is definitely fighting, the reason we haven't posted his match is because it has been left with the IKF Rep to sort out the opponent as they are arranging it because it is a World Title! We have been guaranteed full details this week! We also have a prestige fight arranged as a backup, but we really want to help showcase Lex and get him another World Title!

Collette Van Ham vs Loupy Lou will be a great fight i am sure. Two great upcoming fighters that will show a very high level Muay Thai extravaganza!! THis fight will be one of the highlights of an allready great show. I am crossing my fingers that John or Gary will still find an opponent for Geoffry Spittael so i can be there to and enjoy SCotland once again. Good luck to Reece, hope we can meet again and have a little talk..I am also very enterested on how the afterparty will turn out to be so hope to be there to witness that to, lol

hey lads,
you guys look like a lot of fun. I wonder if I would see anybody off you like that?

I hope you guys are training hard, cause thats what I am doing. And I want (a) strong oponents so I compete in a real war. Lets give the public and promoters what they pay for. A real war.

Hey, Guy, I really hope Geof will be fighting so you can come with us. I'm training my guts off to fight Christo. I really want to shine this year.

To be clear, I read the following when you mentioned my name for the tournament :"Nico Verresen – Belgium, Superpro". I have to correct you though, I train in Belgium but in Chikara (the gym is in Lint,a village near Antwerp). Guy Paret (superpro) is becoming an icon in the Belgian fightscene and has arranged this for me. I thank him and the promotors for this opportunity.

And I heard something about an afterparty? That sounds fucking nice. Then you scottish lads can teach me how to go really loose (if i look at the pictures above, sexy fucking animals :).

Grtz,
Nico

Its hard to call most of the fights, the tournament in particular will be fiercely competative and no matter who draws who each will be a fight you would`nt want to miss. Some of the Europeans are unknownto us so its impossible to say 100% who`ll win these bouts. Houston looks superb strong and aggressive and got that hunger back. Carson V Scott will be a cracker which I don`t think will go the distance as these two pack plenty of power. Lex Easton is putting 150% in to his training and it`ll take a mighty fine fighter to beat him!!

As for yourself against Gordon I can`t wait knowing you both this will be a great fight, Gordon does`nt ever ever give up but you know your game plan you have improved vastly in the last year and I think you`ll suprise a few in the crowd. None of the Scottish lads( and lassie`s ) will be beat easily thats for sure there all buzzing! BRING IT ON!!

Who told you that BLZbub? We have a few well-known people supposed to be attending, but I'd be curious to here the names being circulated, you can email me if you like.

It looks like there will be another 2 Ringside tables available, let me know if anyone is interested. We also got another small allocation of tickets at the weekend, the majority are all reserved and been distributed today. I have about 10 adults and about 20 junior tickets left from it, that’s it!

Individual ticket purchases are best done through Ticketmaster or possibly from your local fighter or instructor as they may have some left. John and myself will only be ordering small batches of tickets on a weekly basis from now until the event.

I few modifications have been made to the line-up as expected, but they have actually enhanced what is already an exciting show! Should hopefully post it tomorrow.

A good snoop never reveals his sources Gary!

So far i've heard, Jackie Bird (I personaly believe this one 100%. Did you know she used to be a backing singer with Echo and the Bunnymen?) WILD!!!
The girl from Chewin the Fat, her name got lost somewhere in my memory bank. Karen something. You know who I mean though. She's very keen on Muay Thai, and been to shows in the past.
Carol Smillie is pally with that ref guy so she's a 'defo'.
Rab C is supposed to be coming, dressed as Gregor Fisher.
The girl who owns that underwear company is a fan.
I've heard of at least 3 big name footballers, another couple from the musical world.

One crazy report says that Claudia Fischer is in Scotland at that time and already has a ticket waiting for her. I don't believe a word of that one, but needless to say, i'll be taking a lot of time over my personal presentation, just in case!

Really looking forward to reading the final line up!

Yeah, finally can confirm Lex Easdon will be fighting Gena Tachenka (sorry for the spelling). Who I'm pretty sure fought Fash Ferdosian on one of Master Skens shows and was unlucky not to take the decision despite being much lighter, so should be another cracker!

It would just top the show off to get Paul confirmed with the French MMA fighter!

As long as he doesn't project up on the wall at our show it'll be fine! I really shouldn't give him any ideas, the crazy little man was going to go to the Awards ceremony in drag! Still think he would make a great ring girl!

Well done to Hilary Mack who won her fight in Bangkok yesterday. Hilary has been training at Sasiprapa in preperation for her fight at Braehead and her World title fight! in Switzerland at the end of this month. Hilary won the fight on points and is quickly establishing herself as Scotland's best international female fighter. well done Hil!

Not sure who she fought, was in an open-air stadium in Bangkok somewhere and was seemingly raining quite heavily. She is back tomorrow so will find out then, hopefully before she starts to beat everyone up again. she fights Carol Flury but not sure what title.

She has a prfile on womens kickboxing-
26 fights 24 won 2 losses, 4 KOs.

Sorry for the delay in getting the updated fight card up, I've been up to my neck in it! I'll post it just now!

Unfortunitely the Reece Crooke and Graeme Ness fight is off, with both fighters now being unavailable. All the best to both fighters and I hope they are back in the ring soon, hopefully we’ll see Reece up here again on one of our future shows!

Eddie is still fighting. Although I'm personally not expecting that fight to go the distance, either way!

Don’t worry about me Mark, I’ve prepared a counter strike encase you get by the legal obstacles! LOL.

Reece, no worries mate, these things happen, just the nature of the sport, did you kick the stairs with your other leg? LOL. It would be great to have you up on another show and we’ll definitely be in touch! I hope you recover well buddy, I had the same injury which I picked up about a year and a half ago, the good news is it heals quite quick as its not really load baring, but the bad news is it still hurts a little when I kick the bag! Not enough to stop me throwing it though!

Just had some good news with the line-up though, so hopefully we'll be able to confirm another cracking A-class fight and another name from the tournament by tomorrow. But I’m sure some bad news will come along to balance it out! Deep breathe! LOL

Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2006-02-17 14:13:33
News travels fast, I'm promoting the show and literally only found out 3 hours ago! LOL.

Unfortunately Lex has been injured and basically can't train for the next fortnight, so won't get near the weight for the World Title with Gena. Obviously both Lex and Gena will be very disappointed as are we the promoters, as it would have been a great fight, but this is just the nature of the sport! Hopefully this fight can happen later in the year, as Lex has already expressed interest in rescheduling the bout.

Rather than let down his support completely, Lex is now currently searching for an opponent at a heavier weight to fight over fewer rounds. So anyone interested please contact Lex ASAP.

As I said, these are common occurrences that you have to deal with when promoting. But the line-up for the show is still crammed with quality fights and ticket sales are going well, just over 3 weeks to go and can’t wait!

Apologies to anyone trying to get tickets through ticketmaster either by phone or internet! They have to keep increasing the capacity on their system by increments for some reason and failed to notice that they had reached their limit. I have been assured that the system will have another 500 tickets on now. See:

http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/event/18003B87E6D4D554?artistid=946763&majorcatid=10004&minorcatid=102

I will be collecting another 300 today, so anyone that has given me their ticket needs will have them in the next few days.
Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2006-02-19 06:45:28
Thanks for the kind words Dave! Although we're going to stop selling tickets well before we fill it, as we think the show will be much better if we just use 2/3 of the Arena and keep the layout more square. We'll roughly section off the Arena in line with the Basketball Net on the bottom picture, which we only need to sell around another 800 tickets to do. We don't want anyone having a poor view etc, we want everyone leaving having a great time. Saying that, it will still be huge!

Hi Noi, not sure about the NEC, but Braehead has a capicty of about 6,000 depending on the layout you use, obviously the fact we have VIP tables and only want to use 2/3 brings this down a fair bit. But I'm confident about getting our target crowd which will make the place look crammed, but still let everyone there have a great time!

You never know Raj, but Noi's right, we should leave the match-making to Don John!

That’s a bit biased BLZbub. I think some of our guys might give Liam a work out, but he is one of the best in the country and too much for our guys to handle just now. In the future hopefully some of our guys can get up to Liam's level!

I've just distributed the allocation I have and I have 100 here if any fighters or instructors need any more, really need to let me know ASAP. I'll hopefully be getting one more small allocation at the end of the month, after that everyone will be sent to the box office, which means they will have to pay the booking fee and fighters will lose their commission.

I don't think I'm being biased Gary (certainly not my intention). I happily acknowledge that Liam is a fantastic talent who is a great ambassador for sport and country, and looks to have a solid ongoing future. I am a huge fan.
But dont you think that we have talent up here? I'm sure you can think of a couple who, with the right backing and input, could come close to Liams standard.

Having potential to perform on a bigger stage and fighting Liam Harrison are 2 totally different things I'm afraid. Liam fights constantly on the big stage and his level of opposition is of a very high standard and he is a world ranked fighter. Without being disrespectful I don't see anyone up here to trouble him, just my honest opinion.

Not knocking our guys mate, the sport is making huge developments up here, and I think we are improving at a faster rate than a lot of countries, so hopefully we'll reach that level, but we've still a long way to go! I just think it would be no more than a work out for Liam at this stage, unfortunitely!

Hi guys, just to inform you guys that Nico Verresen has fought a fantastic fight yesterday and was one of the best fights of the night yesterday. After the fight he was left with zero bruises making him training this week allready preparing for the Scotland Adventure...We have put the show on www.kickbox.nl and www.superpro.be. So keep watching this thread as we will introduce our team to the Scottisch public and so people will be able to put a face on the names. HI again,
Just to clear things up. It's not my team that will come over but a joined force , Universal Gym, FRiends Gym Holland, Chikara Gym and Team HTK. Offcource we will come over all together as a team but it's surtenly not me who have put the hard work in each and one of them. Nico Verresen is trained by Mario Francis, Samuel Peter Wia & Debby Broeders is trained by Dennis Krauweel, Najat Hasnouni is trained by Murat Derecki and Ahmedi Bejan is the only HTK Team member , HTK being the gym where i am sweaping the floor and give people money to come and fill the gym.

Liam, you'll be fighting on this show anyway, well at least your mini version will be! LOL.

It was good to here that Nico is coming into the show without any injuries, I wonder if Rung will pick up anything at Master Sken's show, all just adds to the uncertainty of the tournament! There is also the unknown quantity of the Dutch Fighter Samuel Peter Wia. Still can’t predict a winner, I think it’ll be down to the draw. A lot of people seem to think Rung will take it, but the quick nature of 3x3mins will suit the other fighters better. I really hope it lives up to expectation! I also wouldn’t write-off Lloyd, he looks as if he is back to his best, he’s sharp, fit and running over people in training!

Especially how good he is looking just now! No one has mentioned him by now but I think its a perfect fighting weight for him and that his fitness and style is perfect for this! As i said its the luck of the draw, but I'd expect him to be there or there abouts, saying that, I can see them all there or there abouts! LOL. I should be a politician

Can you email me what you want to return, John has asked everyone to return tickets this week or at least let us know what by Wednesday, I only no of 5 tickets getting returned so far. no point us taking out loads more when we can redistribute some.
Gary O'Brien STBA

Still not heard from anyone else returning tickets, which is good news!

Anyone with the odd one left, let me know by tomorrow (Wednesday), as I'm expecting to get another small batch on Friday and that will probably be the lot! i know the odd spare ticket might sell towards pay day, but it makes our job to redistribute them a lot harder if we don't have them this week. Thanks!

Hi Guy, thats why I reposted the 2nd lineup, now reads 56kg, I hope! LOL.

It is a lot of fights, but assuming some people may pull out and stoppages and the fact that the MMA tend to finish quickly, we're expecting it to be finished by 8.

Unlikely that there will be a DVD for general sale as there is rights issues with the footage, so Jo Jo, your going to miss it! LOL if you can't re-arrange your 1st Aid course let me know and we'll postpone it as a week! LOL

We will be doing a demo in the Braehead Shopping Centre on Monday March 6th and have the day slot in the middle of the shopping centre. This will be a great chance to advertise the sport and show! 382,000 people pass through the centre in the average week, so its good exposure.

If any of the fighters and coaches are free on the Monday and would be willing to help out it would be much appreciated! We have a few names already, but the more the better! I think the best format would be to have the fighters etc doing padwork and just keep changing and maybe some sparring. I'm also going to organise some screens to show some fight footage.

If you're interested give me an email or a phone and we'll sort it out!

Cheers,

Gary.

Your right Stevie, complete sense of relief, I nearly jumped in the ring to do front flips with him! I'm glad he made it quick instead of making me go through 5 rounds of it! It was my pleasure to help him in the corner, well apart from when he was clearing out his tubes, the guys in the same dressing room will know what I mean! LOL.

Got some of the stuff arranged for the Demo in Braehead on Monday 6th. We basically have all day to do what we like, 9am-9pm. So we'll probably be breaking it up into a few different small training sessions on the pads and sparring, which I think is a better way of advertising the sport as opposed to us kicking apples off swords from 9am-9pm. But I'm open to suggestions? I'm going to try and organise some Plasma TV's if I can to show some fight DVD's.

I'll hopefully have a better idea what the plan is by Wed, but if people are only available at certain times or if there is a time that suits them best, let me know and I'll arrange it around it if I can! This is a good chance to get another 550 ticket sales, which we are aiming for in the next 2 weeks to really pack out the Arena configuration we’ve planned. But is also a good way of advertising the sport in general!

Unfortunitely Rab Burt has had to pull out with an injured hand. So Tim Thomas will now be fighting Ahmedi Bejan, who is a very good fighter.

I should add that I'm even more excited about the 8man! Lloyd really is getting better every week and this tourny is perfect for his style! Rung was looking clinical at Master Sken's show! The Europeon boys are an unknown quantity, but everyone is expecting good things! As for the other Scottish guys, I've not seen them training, I'm sure they will all be in top form, they'll want to make a name for themselves on this stage and are all quality fighters! I hope I get to see most of the show!

I thought Rung performed really well at Skens and was a great crowd pleaser, so good luck to him in the 8-man. And all the Best to Eddie Scott, glad to hear you're back in the ring mate.

is john douglas fighting full thai? for anybdy who has not seen john fight they are in for a treat

John Douglas is fighting modified rules over 5x2mins as it says on the fight card. Its only his first adult fight, so it was a bit much to ask him to fight with elbows, especially with an experienced fighter like Gordon Ross. But the next time he fights will probably be Full Thai.

why is there no english fighters in the tourney?
and are you planning on doing this format at heavier weights?
Gary O'Brien STBA

Loupy, We've only provisionally sketched in times for activities on the day and these are changing all the time. We'll try and get all of the briefings and stuff done at the weigh-in if we can get everyone to attend at the same time, that way you just have to worry about being there to fight!

The show is definitely kicking off at 12 noon with the junior bouts then straight into the modified bouts. The main event starting at 2pm with the start of the 8man, which will be separated by the main features on the card. The day will then round off with the other modified rules bouts. This structure is a little different to normal when you have the main features at the end. But as we have a lot of fights (including your ritual dance! : P) and if there is no pull-outs or KO's then it will be a long day, so the main features will be put on in the middle of the show.

BTW, your fight is at 63.5kg

Keepyerguardup, we'll definitely be considering running the tournament in the future and at different weights. We will obviously have to see how this feature works. It has been difficult to organise, but I’m sure it will be fantastic if the K1-Max that John and Bobby organised was anything to go by! The reason there are no English fighters is simply because we could not source any fighters. We were accepting any fighters interested through this thread. Maybe next time there will be more fighters in England interested. We are very happy with the line-up for the 8-man and would encourage having as many fighters from different countries as possible in the future!

Here is a look at the minimium required layout, if there is a last minute surge of ticket sales then the stage will be taken back and ring brought more central. But as stated before, the intention is to keep the layout as square as possible.
