Well done John, you fought very well and i think your knees and overall fitness got you the win in what was a tough and entertaining fight. Just want to say a big well done to Chris who fought brilliantly in his first 5 rounder and first fight in over a year, you did yourself and your club proud mate. A good show with some good fights, i think the 5 x 1.5 mins rounds for novices definately is the way forward. Also well done to Peter from Caly for a good performance in his first fight.

Posted: 2006-09-17 14:14:16
Have to agree with DavyNac.
The 5 X 1.5 format makes everything much more coherent. 'The powers that be' seem to be working hard to improve things at all levels.

Well done to all the fighters as usual. Maximum effort from all of you.
Kevin Cottrell looked much improved. He was always good, but now he's really good.

Title fight was an absolute pleasure to watch. The pace was hectic at times with some brilliant defence and counter work from both guys. Great to see a referee who actually allows prolonged clinch and knee work, and only breaks the fighters when the rules dictate it should be done. A huge chunk of round 2 was solid clinching, turning and kneeing. It was pure Muay Thai. Beautiful to see!

Great show!!!

Thanks!!!

great show, thanx to bob and eileen for a great day, thier were some cracking fights, i only saw pauls and johns, wee paul did us all proud he fought well and had plenty still in the tank when the fight got stopped, that was his first pro fight and he took it well, adam was a tough strong guy and it looked like a man against a boy when they faced off in the ring, its just a pity the fight didnt go the distance,

had to laugh when paul was relaxing in the changing room doin his maths homework a couple of hours before fighting

well done John Dick you were a wee star today,

Well done all fighters, was a great show, not one boring fight on the card. Cheers to Bobby for letting me take photos and to Willy for givins us a hand!
Cheers to all the fighters i got photos of as well!
And a huge well done to Chris and John, was an excellent fight, congrats John!

Good show as always, well done to Bobby and the rest of the Base club for pulling it off despite a lot of last minute changes!

I thought the STBA move towards 5 x 1.5mins was really good and resulted in far better technique and scoring from our novices, I'm looking forward to seeing the future impact over the next year or two!

Got to give a special mention to John Dick and Chris Horne, which was a great wee fight! I thought John had made a drastic improvement in his clinch work and punished Chris in the first 2 rounds where he was almost like a punch bag! But to his credit he not only took them, but also managed to fight back strongly from the 3rd, really dug deep! I think John is really starting to shine now, I always thought he was a good fighter, but has made a big step up in his last few fights!

Good show, the 5x1,1/2 structure worked well as Gary says and im sure will benefit the fighters, who from what i saw were able to show more of what they were able to do with more time to play with.

Chris and John's fight was brilliant and i thought Chris was gonna come back into it after a very strong 3rd but John kept the pressure and showed great heart and fitness to keep control of the fight.

Best of luck to Chris who is gonna be a Dad in a few weeks, so is taking a well earned break from fighting for a while. Best wishes to you and your wife mate.

I have to apologise to Bobby Quinn and anyone who came to watch me in my fight, Jamie Henderson.
I wasn't feeling too well during my warm up but thought it was just a touch of nerves. That was until the fight started and in the first round I thought I was gonna throw up so tried to just take it easy. Felt better in the 2nd round so was thinking I was gonna be okay and was getting a little confidence, however as soon as I went back to the corner I thought I was gonna be sick again.
Anyone who was there would know what happens next. As well as getting my nose bust by some nice crosses by Wullie I started to feel really ill so at end of the 3rd round I decided I was too unwell to carry on but couldn't hold the sick back and puked in the ring. ALOT.
Still not feeling well right now and not sure what is up. Almost throw up again when I tried to eat on Sunday night and yesterday.
Good fighter tho Wullie Dempster, However my cousin who was sitting in front of the travelling support did comment that she felt really intimadated by them and that some fo there comments were out of order but I never heard them so can't say what they were.
cannaebebotheredtraining
Posted: 2006-09-19 08:14:31
I completely agree, I was sitting next to Wullie Dempsters 'Fan Base' and couldn't agree more with the comments of your cousin.
Muay Thai shows are always exciting, particularly if you know one of the competitors, however certain behaviour is completely inappropriate at these events.
We moved from our original seats, not because we felt intimidated but more because we wouldn't want others assuming that we were involved.
I personally don't like the boo's or EASY chants, it's all a bit yobbish in my opinion.
Of course support your fighter but equally his/her opponent should be treated with respect.
