Is this Tims ISKA World Title DEFENCE?

john o brien
Posted: 2006-09-07 05:00:11
Kirsten we simply didn't have any female fighters available to us, despite their quality, there is a lack in quantity of female fighters up here unfortunitely.

Noi I think its his second defence, as he was meant to be defending it before, but not sure if it went ahead or not.

BTW, this is Gary, not John, having to hijack his account as my password doesn't work anymore! Eileen, you should have known better! LOL

LLoyd is current ISKA British champion, and soon to be ISKA world champion. As his manager I know that Lloyd has a genuine chance of taking this title and it`s a cracking match up. Coaches and fighters be aware that 500 of these tickets have already gone!!

Lloyd might not be a big name outside of scotland but after this fight i think everyone will stand up and take notice as he is world class!
john o brien
Posted: 2006-09-07 11:50:32
Lloyds fight with Rung was declared a draw. Myself amd most of the audience who were there felt we LLoyd won easily. Lloyd is just returning to his peak after suffering from a series of illness which meant he could`nt fight to the best of his abilities. LLoyd will be 110% ready for Tim Thomas. Those who have`nt heard of him before will know who he is after October.

STBA Scottish Welterweight Title (67kg)
Alan Jamieson (NKT Paisley) Vs. Stevie Meikle (Caledonian) (5x3mins FTR)

does this mean Rab has been stripped of his title?
Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2006-09-07 16:59:20
Back on AX!

Rab's unfortunitely decided to retire, so the titles now vacant and these two are the first in line for it!

As for Lloyd, he's been one of our best fighters for years and i can promise it will be a tough fight for Tim. If he thinks he'll be coming up for an easy defence then he'll get a shock! Lloyd is one of our top fighters and its our responsability to get him every opportunity we can, I also believe he'll show his quality against Tim. I'm really looking forward to this matchup, I think their styles will make for an exciting bout!

The first fight between Jamieson and Meikle was also a close and exciting fight at Clellend last year, so that should be a good one to.

Anyone predictions? I think on paper they are all close matchups, well I would say that!

ISKA World Welterweight Title (66.8kg)
Lloyd Cochran (NKT Paisley) Vs. Tim Thomas (Nuk Soo)(5x3mins FTR)

**Tim Thomas to WIN - Points**
SuperTee
Posted: 2006-09-07 17:45:52
Aw that’s a shame; Rab was a good fighter and was getting better with each fight. I wish him luck for the future.

Man im kinda bias but I think Stevie has become a stronger fighter since the last fight so im going with him winning the title in another exciting fight.

As for the headliner well Tim Thomas has been kinda unpredictable of late but i still think he is technically superior to Cochran. Thomas win via stoppage on a good night or Points.

Davie Mac has been real strong and sharp in training and is well up for his fight looking to end an unlucky run of late.

should be another great show!

(Gary is there any chance you could send me a copy of the POS dvd when its ready mate?)

Good luck to O'B Promotions (is this a new brand name ?)

Fantastic to see a Scot getting a crack at a world title. Big Big good luck to Lloyd. I'll be shouting for you!
We all saw Tim at POS and although it wasn't the most energetic fight, he showed a lot of craft and subtlty.
Great to have a fight of this calibre take place in Scotland.

The other fights look pretty savoury as well

Looking forward to it

Tommy, I'll give you a shout once they arrive mate, shouldn't be long now!

BLZBUB, yeah O'B Promotions is the promotions company that John and I will be doing the shows under, so you will have to put up with the branding! LOL

On a side note, anyone that has got a ticket will notice the advert for POS 2 on the back. It looks like we will be using pre-assigned seating at the next big event on the 4th March 07, which means the earlier you book the ticket the more choice of seating you'll have! Saying that, the angle on the seating of the Arena means that the people in the gods have a good view as well! Tickets are expected to go on sale in early November, but we will be realeasing an earlier batch at the Normandy. Should hopefully have more details in the next week or so.

Sorry John, Lloyd is a sound guy but just think Tim is technically better, saying that if Tim fights the way he did at Braehead then Lloyd would have him. Am I anyway closer to redeeming myself for a freebie???....lol

Saying that, anyone who would stoop so low as to sing a Westlife track is no-one I'd like to associate myself with. John who you say??....lol ;-P

This will be the biggest test yet for both these fighters. Both are fast exciting instictive fighters and have been superbly conditioned by there respective coaches. I`d pay £20 to watch just this one fight!!!

Congratulations to Tim on retaining his world title. It was a great fight to watch. 5 rounds of non-stop action. Overall, Tim showed why he is champion, but it has to be said that the gap between him and Lloyd was not huge by any means. I really believe that Lloyd can use today as a learning experience and will hopefully become one of our nations 'Greats' in the near future.

Big round of applause to the officials as well. I thought that the ISKA would have sent their own people, but was impressed to see all Scottish officials looking after the title bout, and giving a very creditable and fair minded performance. It shows that fighters from around the world can come to Scotland and be sure of being looked after by really professional judges and referees.
Have to say that the standard of officials is reaching an all together 'higher level' these days. Whatever you guys are doing ..... please keep it up!

McAskill/ White was a great fight. Someone told me that it was White's first fight? If so - kudos to him.

Well done to Stevie Meikle on winning his belt and to Tim Thomas for holding on to his.

Shame some of the crowd had to be so vociferous with anti-Thomas chants and boos rather than pro-Cochran shouts.

I do agree with Szandor about the (small) minority of bams who behaved very badly toward a world champion. The guy showed utter class in coming up here to defend his belt, and should have been treted with maximum respect.

These gits should all be given a T-shirt which reads "Instant arsehole, just add lager".

We should use forums like this to name and shame them!

There was lots of booing, and I also heard a 'kick his f***ing head in', which is, I feel, outwith the spirit of the sport.

John Douglas will learn a lot from todays bout, he`s a promising fighter but today he met an exceptional young fighter. It was great to see Chris in the ring again and I forgot just how good a fighter he is! Chris has an old head on young shoulders a fantastic work rate and great all round fighting skills. What a flipping physique he has( I`ll never be cheeky to him again. It will have been the first time most of the crowd will have seen and they must have been impressed!! Was there primarily to see Stevie Meikle and he really didn't dissapoint.
Meikle put in a class performance and in my opinion controlled every second of the fight. Whether striking or clinching he seemed stronger and didn't once stop coming forward. Well done Stevie, a great representation of yourself and your club.

The young guy with the soltaire shorts (not sure of his name) was excellent against a very confident opponent, probably fight of the day (IMO).

Big thanks to john and gaz for giving us the chance to fight at the normandy every fighter would love to have that opportunity.

definitley love to have a rematch between chris shaw and john at the power of scotland 2, both guys are certainly the future of muaythai in scotland and no matter what peoples opinion are on these fighters both are really young (which people seem to forget sometimes) and can only get better. Totally agree with Gabber boy john is a class act and people who know john and train with john know what he's capable of, nobodys taking anything away from chris another class act and he put in a great performance but john will take this on the chin and come back bigger and stronger.

Congrats to kieran best performance to date. for once he listened to the corner and done exactly what was asked of him, well done wee man.

unlucky andy o started off well but didnt see the rest as i was collecting ticket money lol sorry!!!. congrats to stevie crackin big guy and worthy champion.

already said my peace to lloyd but you showed that theres no gap in class between you and the big boys in england so hopefully people will stand up and take notice and the big fights will start comin more often the whole of scottish muaythai should be proud of you.

Big thanks to Gary and John for the chance to fight on this show. Obviously i was disapointed with the late pull out of Alan but these things happen, hope we get the chance to get a real title fight sometime soon, as i still see Alan and Rab Burt as the two best technical and physical fighters at 67kg in Scotland by a long shot, who i hope to get the chance to go up against in the future.

Impressed by John Douglas, think John has great technique while Chris Shaw has the power. A rematch between these two would be an great prospect, but think if it was under full thai John would force a stoppage through cut as he is much the smarter muay thai fighter.

Didnt get a chance to see most of the other fights but well done to Tim Thomas, never looked in trouble and thoroughly deserved the win. Heard a lot of negative comments from the audience but these were mostly from the drunken and ignorant minority. Great guy also, had a good laugh in the changing rooms and know he will be out romancing the Glasgow girls tonight.

Thanks to everyone at Caledonian for all their help and support for the fight, think we have the strongest pool of Scottish fighters just now and have the potential to show our dominance in the Scottish Thai Boxing scene at most weights in the near future.

If anyone wants to challenge me for the title they will have to step up to 'full thai' rules as i believe this is the way to give STBA titles greater standing and improve the level and reputation of proper muay thai in Scotland.

Evil Al here.. hijacking jojo's account. Well done to John and Gary for a well run show. All fights were superb. Good to see so many clubs working with each other.Good fight with Tim and Lloyd, Tim picked away at Lloyd well and did'nt allow him to move in the clinch. Golden Boy (although Golden Balls sounds better)proved to be a great sportsman before and after his defeat to Ally Mcbride, young Richie was excellent and shows great potential for the future and he's a nice guy with no attitude. To pass a small comment on John Douglas and Chris Shaw, I thought the fight was excellent and John provided a display of excellent Muay Thai, he has great technical ability. This was Chris's first outing for a long time and first senior fight. He did lack a certain sharpness and was a bit ring rusty, he was also suffering from a sheep incident but thats only because he's from Ayrshire..he was looking for the power shots but that will be worked on,although as far as power goes he displayed that fairly well. I also thought his technique was fairly effective and precise from where I was watching it from. as far as a re-match goes we're up for it. Chris will be benching two elephants instead of one and jumping over two houses instead of one for his plyo work, he'll be hitting bigger tractor tyres with the sledge hammer and we'll increase his 30 mile road reps to sets of 15 instead of 10 and as for the what ifs if it were a full thai rules fight etc then the only cut Chris would receive would be his haircut the day before the fight.

Please do not take the comment about John and Chris out of context, both guys fought really well and i was merely stating my opinion on a hypothetcial situation based on seeing John fight before and seeing him training out in Thailand. I chat to him regularly and so may have a biased view on this. I did not say Chris lacked technique at all just that i think John has very good technique, and Chris has great power for someone his age. No disrepect was meant, both are great prospects, please do not try to find negativity where there is none.

When is the DVD coming out? I'm gutted I missed the war between Marc Whyte and Kieran McCaskil, prepping John meant that I only caught the tail end of the last round.
Big respect to Gavin Speirs, you hit like a jackhammer and have a chin that must be made of granite mate.
Also well done to the BO brothers for another excellent promotion.

Nesbit, you're on the list as is Blzbub "pair of pianos"? by all means comment on my huge organ but leave my pianos out of this. ;-)

fair play lloyd if you seen it then it needs sorting out, due to the nerves issues with fighting ephedrine dont do a great deal for a fighter anyhow, BUT if it is projected as some sort of wonder drug by someones coach it can have an effect on your mind more than anything and people who are happy to cheat would get a lift from it. Ive trained at places in the past that have used it but i know you cant be talking about Tim Thomas and his coach as my little brother fights for naksoo and they never have or would touch it. Anyone interested in the effects should watch the movie CRANK, good film and its all based around pseudoephedrine and Phentermine found in nasal inhalers and Sudafad etc, the guy out of lock stock basically gets smashed on it and goes around knocking the sh*t out of people! Fat you maybe ;-) but to go in and put in a solid performance against someone like Tim is not average, hope to see you fight soon.

First time I've had a chance to post, sorry its a bit late!

Thanks to everyone involved on Sunday, we finally got there and from what I seen it was a good show with some good fights! I thought Lloyd showed that he deserved to be in the ring with Tim and although Lloyd wasn't at his best it was a close fight. I thought Lloyd was scoring better in the early rounds but seemed to struggle with his breathing when he burst his nose. Neither of the fighters seemed under any great pressure throughout, but Tim seemed the stronger fighter in the end! As far as his reception, you are always going to get a few people at shows who don't understand the spirit of the sport, but I thought Tim's reception wasn't far off Lloyds and I was very releaved at his warm welcome, as he deserves it for coming up and putting his title on the line!

I thought Andy O'B deserves a lot of credit for taking the fight at short notice. I know it wasn't the rules that Stevie had trained for or wanted but if Andy hadn't stepped up there would have been no fight. From what I seen Stevie was winning well, but Andy made him fight for it.

John and Chris's fight was highly anticipated, but I thought both boys have another gear. You forget that these two fighters are just boys and its unfair to have such high expectations of them! I understand what Stevie M was saying about technique and power. Chris is a talented fighter without a doubt and has been around for a long time, but in terms of technique I'd say John understands how to play the Muay Thai game better. In terms of going forward, I think John has the potential to be the best all round fighter we've ever produced, but he needs time to develop and won't be helped by people like me putting even more expectations on him! However, Chris more than made up for it with his strength and conditioning on Sunday and used it very well in the fight. I also think john didn't look the same fighter when he went over the ropes at the start of the fight and just seemed dazed. Both have a great future and will be an asset to the Scottish scene.

Obviously this is a biased view as I train him, but thought young Kieran MacAskill was the best fighter of the night. He has an abundance of natural talent, but I had to push him very hard over the last few months to get his mental toughness up, almost too far sometimes, as he was nervous about making the step to full head contact and fighting adults. He quickly realised that I had hit him a lot harder in training and that he had nothing to really fear. There was a few points where he nearly punched himself out going for a KO. But for the most part he displayed a good understanding of the scoring system and monitored the fight throught. He'd create a few good scores and then a few more to make sure he was ahead with the judges and then used his teep to protect the points, really proud of him!

Again thanks everyone for helping to put the show on!

dont know who your talking about but that is a serious accusation!
if they are using drugs to improve performance it is wrong and should be outlawed!

(thaisoon): the word your looking for is placebo-effect....
if you give someone a smartie and tell them that this will give them super-human strength then they will act in that way...simple psychology.

choose the red pill.... :)

Just to clear the air, Ive spoke to Lloyd and he wasnt making his point about anyone involved in this show. Can anybody who has complaints or observations about the shows we promote have the common courtesy to address them to me first before posting them up here. Thanks to everybody involved in the show, and at the next fights I`ll be taking my top off so as you can see real love handles.

Lloyd is blatantly talking about the GTBA, look at the sheer size and brute strength of the mighty YODA!
I doubt its eating his greens, drinking his milk and taking his vitamins that has created the monster he is today, it MUST be drugs, and lots of them!

This is Alan Currie writing.. Could I please have clarification from Lloyd Cochrane on the statement that he posted earlier when he has replied to JOJO a member of my gym which obviously makes direct reference to my gym, my business, my ethics and my professional reputation!. Can you provide me with a statement of fact on these accusations and in particular to the facts that you have stated that you have seen with your own eyes. You have stated and I quote from your previous post
"I should be training at a gym that pumps their fighters full of drugs"
and also
"i was always impressed by the fitness and aggression of a certain club before i "seen" them taking ephidriene before there fights, given to them by there instructor. that hole none stop attacking style for every round of the fight never seeming to get tired."
This matter will be pursued further when you post your response.

Thank you.

I like fighting Full Thai rules, only choose not to do so cos I hadn't been training for elbows or knees to the head. Everyone knows ur clich technique is entirely different when using full thai. I had also been training weights before the fight( since I thought I would not be fighting) not the best prep for boxing.
I dont like they way it's being inferred that I was scared to take it on as full thai was just not prepared for it, If I had any reasonable amount of notice then it would not have been a problem.

Andy.

OOPS!!!!

I've made it onto Yodas list.

I refuse to enter into any dialogue whatsoever on the subject of your (alleged) huge organ. Furthermore, should you ever attempt to exhibit the afore mentioned appendage in my presence, I will have no hesitation in dragging you off to the home of my good friend, and moral confidante, Madame Fifi, who will be more than happy to administer a sound lashing to your rear.

Dont mention the word DVD, lol
DVD is will be out when i finish it probably by the end of the week, was tying up The DVD for the Martial Mayhem 2 Event from last week, So copies should be available by next week as John Obrien will have the master copy by the start of the week. (Fingers crossed as uni is killing me just now)

As for the show i rather enjoyed it and i took a bunch of complete novices along to see it, they were all impressed by Chris Shaw as was i. I thought he had been out in Thailand and asked what gyms he had been training at, he said none. lol. You are doing a good job down there in Wossobama, keep it up !!

The title fight was interesting and was more a batttle of tactics than a war. With tim landing the cleaner shots, Lloyd though didnt know what backwards meant and he tried to push forward all the way to the end. Nobody ever really being rocked the whole fight or in any real danger, Tim just notched up more points and saved a little in reserve for the final round.

Good show guys!
