Namkabuan Nongkeepahuyuth
Just wundering if anybody knows who Namkabuan was fighting when he threw his fight at Lumpini Stadium when he Got Expelled for throwing a fight??
And also if anyone can share some photos of the man for me..(hes my favourite thai boxer :D)
I think they call it "Lam why" when a boxer thowes a fight?
(Sorry about spelling)
Thats so so bad the man could never do any wrong....he is my favourite ever!!!
I know vinny! I couldnt believe it wen i found ot aboubt it, its struck me rite down the centre.LOL.
well he was an awsome fighter and thats all i care about...im just trying to find out who he was Fighting when he threw it.
lom muay, when a boxer throws the fight.
Yeah i didnt untill i tryed to find tapes and stuff about him. He was expelled from lumpini stadium (and probly all others in thailand)for throwing a fight and was stripped of his Title.
I bet Rob from Kaewsamrit could give some details......
I think his expulsion was around 1997 or so
But I also seem to remember him fighting Attuchai por Samranchai sometime around '98 or 99?
Can't say for sure, though.
Cheers bryan..hopefully Rob wil read this thread. (he seems to know everything about everything and have photos of EVERYONE)which is Awsome.

I don't know about Namkabuan's case in particular. He was a very, very skillful fighter. However, if he did throw a fight he is not the only great fighter to take money to lose during his career; nor will he be the last despite the threat of stiff penalties for fighters proved to have done so including gaol. While it may seem totally alien to western fighters who fight just for the love of MuayThai, economic necessity can tempt fighters to take money offered by gamblers; money that is often many more times than any purse money they could get. It has happened in soccer, in western boxing and in MuayThai.
lom muay sounds about right, lom has many meanings one is to fall. it also means wind (i think)so choke lom means fight wind (shadow boxing), a boy from my gym got caught throwing a fight and was banned from fighting in bkk so all his fights had to be abroad until the chinese gangsta owner of the gym paid for him to be allowed to fight in thailand again (coruption galore)

Lom muay is indeed the correct term.
Don't know who Namkabuan was fighting when he was sent from the ring. As Tony says a lot of big names have done it in the past, but also a lot of times the fighters get sent from the ring for not fighting to the required level, but they havent been paid off, sometimes they may have been told they must fight and are not in good enough shape, there are often other reasons. I remember Sakadpetch got sent down from the ring a while back when he fought Nopparat, but most that knew both fighters well, knew they were close friends and this definately played a big part in Sakadpetch's performance. You can also look at the fighter and think they are very bad for doing such a thing, but they have often been ripped off something rotten by their managers and don't recieve anywhere near what they should. Sebveral rules have been introduced now to try and clean up the sport, including prison sentences for fighters found to have dome it and also the people that have paid them to throw a fight and Lumpini stadium not long ago made the fighters collect and sign for their 50% of the purse seperate from the bosses so the fighters know exactly how much they should be paid.
Back to Namkabuan, he made an appearnce at the big Songchai show last week and looks more like a boyband member now than a fighter, both him and his brother Namphon have done well for themselves since they have retired, running succesful restaurants across Thailand.
going back to when the fighters get sent from the ring, you can often sense when it will happen, with a fighter doing bad, a chorus of boos will start to sound. Often though you will get a round of applause at the same time, with one lot of gamblers that have bet on the under performing boxing letting it known they are not happy and the ones that are backing the fighter doing well applauding. You will often hear a bit of a chant too 'Pair laew ho' which is aimmed at the complainers and basically translates as 'just because your losing' lol
It can be very tough for the boxers sometimes, when they could have a totally legit reason to not fight to their usual standards, but the crowd are very quick to point the finger at wrong doing
That picture!!!
I wouldn't have recognized him if I just gave that photo a casual look.....It took a bit of careful looking to realize it was him!
Thanks Rob! Yeah man Namkabuan looks so much different. He looks alot lighter in skin tan aswell.Too bad he stopped boxing i wish he hadov come to New Zealand man!!

hi colin, hippy plays football a lot to! he loves it and he is a good player!
Hi Rob,
Its good to bring back the memories from the past, People can really see the differences when compared with present pics.It was good to be able to share the greatest with the public at the beginning of Muay Thai here in Western Australia...with such names as Gaonar Sor. Khet Talingchun, Samrantong Kiatbanchong and a lot more that I can't remember.
Hi Colin,
Thanks for your comments. There was such a great line-up that I cannot remember, as we had 3 Lumpinee Title fights (outside of Lumpinee) plus our local fighters. But I will find out for you.
Hi Prior M,
I hope you enjoy and are happy with your favourite fighter's pictures...I am happy for you too. I have some more photos of the Legends including Namkhabuan (After the era of Samart Payakaroon) Down under on Western Australian Soil. Will Post soon.
THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!
Hippy was an AMAZING figter Jaroenthong was AMAZING aswell i was lucky enough to see both of them fight live at Lumpinee.
And i mean lucky.............great great skill level!!!!!!
Great memories. Great show there at the Casino. Can you do again an other show like that time, at the same place Mr.Phon?
I trained with Hippy in 2004 during the IFMA world champs...we were using his gym and he showed me some great stuff!
wots Wanjannoi up to now...training fighters???
I remember seeing his fight with Damien Trainer, and the battles I have seen on the Songchai DVD's... awesome!
Hi T.Jay It is a possibility, It is a brilliant venue, although Burswood International Resort Casino's management has changed...so we will have to wait & see.
Mr Phon.
I think you misunderstand.
I mean that it WAS an amazing line up.
I have the video of the fights between Namkabuan v Naunthoranee, Luang Suan v Pompetch, Jongsanon v Turdkiet and Coban v Ramsey.
I will dig out the tape and watch it again for the great memories.
Hippy was one of my favourites. That movement off that stance was brilliant.
I'd love to see that video Colin.... :) ;)
Paul, ta for that. Maybe he could sign for the hammers, we'll try anyone :-(

forgot to say, maybe hippy could sign for newcastle to! coz man they need someone as much as the hammers!
Hi Prior M, Rob, Colin.H & T.Jay
what we are talking about and what we see in these new & old pictures are like jigsaw pieces which can be put together to show the ever growing popularity of Muay Thai in the world up until Present day. (At the beginning of Kickboxing in Australia, there was no media or media coverage like today's that could inform the public about Muay Thai in any way.)
All the people you see in these photos are true legends eg. Nar Songchai Rattanasuban, Kru Yodthong Senannan, Ajarn Pramoj Hoimook, Mr. Chanai Pongsuphar (Khun Tarkoon Pongsuphar's father)and many many more that I have not mentioned.
Songchai has promoted top fighters since the reign of Samart Payakaroon and Kongtoranee plus many more. Kru Yodthong has produced many legendary Thai fighters, with Ajarn Pramoj Hoimook and Mr. Chanai doing just as a great job. Also promoting it for the world to see today.
From behalf of myself, I'd like to give my respect to all of them, especially Mr. Songchai Rattanasuban for his 30th year anniversary. Hopefully his son Siraphop can find this thread and pass the message on to his father.
Apologies to the legendary western trainers, promoters and fighters who have been left out in this part...as we are just talking about the Thai people!

Hi Phon, it was a great show i have it on video, couldn't make it to the show but it was good, Hi Colin drop me an e-mail mate, Hi Rob quality photos from you as usual, will be over in 2 weeks mate cheers
Mr Phon.
Even without the mass tv coverage, the word of the shows like yours spread around the world and many enthusiasts got to see what was going on without the help of the media, so although it may not have seamed like it at the time, it was promoting the sport big time. I remember after your show, others followed and Muaythai in Australia was big news that we were following from here in England. The next year Mr Hoimook brought his fighters over there again and even a fighter from the UK had his chance against Coban. That too was a very big show ('93).
Since then Thai boxing has progressed and many big name Thai's have fought over there.
I still think though, that like over here, the first great shows have never been equalled, but they are the foundations for what goes on today.
And seeing as this thread is about Namkabuan, i'd just like to say that one of the greatest fights i've ever seen was Namkabuan v Ole.
Awesome fight i wonder gave me that....Colin
Hippy v Ranbo was mint,Tirkiet v Jonsannan where elboed, uppercutts then head kicks him thats the best ko in have seen ever, them where the days i saw then on pads too second to none.
thanks colin, vinny, hippy re-enacted his bout with rambo for me round by round when i was in the ring with him last year(sparring was wicked!) he played both parts his and rambos with commentary,it was great! very funny to,he used his footwork, tiip jab etc, then in the 4th he said how tired he was and acted rambo clinching and kneeing, awesum, top man in my eyes.
Colin, Nice to hear your great comments Colin, you are right with all you've said about our activities about the past. 1993 we brought fighters (that I hope evryone has heard of) Steve Scott to fight Coban, Paul Hamilton to fight a Thai. At the end of the 90's I brought Chris Allen (coming off his victory against JWP in Melbourne) to fight John Myles. I also brought Ireland's Craig O'Flynn over to fight here too in Perth.
At present, I am trying my best to bring up local talent and at the same time trying to bring Thai Champions to promote and raise our standards.
Danny, good to hear from you again,my great memories was when you brought Steve Douett over to fight Oliver Olsen for the Australian title (similar time to Myles V Allen), which turned out to be a sell out...over 3000 people.
Keep in Touch
PS I think I have Namkhabuan V Ole, and many many more inc. Langsuan V Porpongsawang, Wangjan Noi V Namkhabuan, Sakmongkon, Dekker and a lot more that Songchai was promoting at Lumpinee.
Hi Phon, yes it was great and now i have better fighters than before 100% Muay Thai now, no more kickboxers, that was my first real taste of Muay Thai and i have never looked back since my friend, you would have lots of tapes Phon we need to trade some !! Lol
Steve Scott fought Coban!!!!
I didnt know that
I Recon Hippy Rambo was one of the best Matches EVER!!!!

can anybody confirm if the boxer at the bottom is paduhadlek(spelling) the thai who fought michel Leufat in the uk.??
DANNY, yes what a good idea, which fights do you have? I have plenty of excellent fites of different legends. I will talk more with you in early December when I come to Sydney. Drop me your contact number.
Cheers Rob he was an excellent technical boxer,It is strange how they all look so familiar although they have changed a great deal.I loved to watch him box.(great spelling he he)
Im so happy to see them all again looking in good shape and happy.
I Think Hippy is one of my all time favourite along with Toto aswell.
Oh Rob what does Hippy translate to in English?
i feel that the boxers seemed to have more charachter in those days
But then again maby nostalgia!
wot do you mean by character?
the way they fight? outside the ring?
I don't think it means anything to be honest, think it is just one of the words the Thai's sometimes borrow from English language
The top fighters seemed more distingushable from one another, many had flamboyant styles,I dont mean flashy but thet made the style"their own" for example Hippy who we have mentioned before with his amazing footwork and teeps or Rambo who would not take a backwards step and very aggressive.luang suan the ggreat knee fighter......................I think fighters specialised more back then than they do now making a lot of top fighters "samey" very very good but similar.I feel aswell that back then there seemed to be a lot more fughters trying for a ko and less point scoring for the gamblers. This is just my view from limited time in Thailand and from watching fights while there and watching dvds it just seemes a golden era in the early 90's.
Phon now worries, will come up to the fight in December, will be great to see you again, if you need any help let me know.
Rdouble, Scott v Coban wasn't much of a fight one punch and it was over in one round basically, and yes Coban won, i have it on tape, Phon promoted that show, i also agree the early ninties was a golden era for Muay Thai and i dont think it will ever be better than then, there were so many good fighters around then, plus the Dutch fighters were regular fighters at Lumpini also!

who can guess who this is?? A hint...He has a brother who was also spectacular

Coban and Steve Scott after beating Humphry in Manchester ready to rock in Perth 1993.
is that Jareonthong Kiatbanchong?

Yes, correct that's Jaroentong Kiatbanchong at a very young age at about 12 or 13 years of age. It is a very rare photograph that was given to me by him.
HI Danny, thankyou for the great offer, It will be great to catch up again. I will contact you by email soon. Yes, it was a golden era with only the finest.

Can anyone guess who the young boy on the left is? Think present ring legend and champion. He fought here in Perth Western Australia in May, '97

How about the guy in the middle? He was an Australian World Champion-in what?? A legend, here with Thai legends at Burswood Resort Casino 1992.
Jeff Harding former WBC world light heavy weight champ, guest commentator for the Burswood casino show, for a boxer he did a decent job too !
is that Pinsiam on the left Phon?

Yes, Rob that's Pinsiam. 2003 Most Outstanding Muay Thai Fighter of the year Award winner, Former Lumpinee & Siam Omnoi Champion, winner of Grand Prix (Isuzu) Tournaments and a master of Muay Thai Skill. He is the star of Saengmorakot Promotions, Lumpinee Stadium.
Nice age for Pinsiam to collect trofee.

One of England's best and this fight was coming off his literally 'cutting' win against John Wayne Parr. Where is he now? and what is he doing?

LAst I heard he was in Pattaya and had opened his gym Sor. Jai Phet. Where is he now and what is he doing?

Does anyone know who this guy kicking is? It was in Perth Western Australia, 1995.
He has been Lumpinee & Rajdamnern Champion and has fought Jomhod Kiattadisak 3 times
-unfortunately Jomhod could not beat him in every one of their fights.
Here's a clearer shot...If you get the first answer, then you can figure out his opponent's name shown here post fight.

Who is the guy in the pink shorts? A clue, he is up in the earlier photos posted by Rob. He was here to train & fight April '93.-Phon's Gym Perth, Western Australia
thanks for all those photos - brilliant.
brought back a lot of memories for me. coincidently i also met namkabuan, and namphon, in 1992. i was lucky enough to train at the same camp in nongkee. it was only for a short time but was a great experience. they gave me a little tour of the town one night, even visited their house. was also able to watch him defend his title in lumpinee. really great days.
Thank you Pioneer for all the nice memories. Great years '92..'93..'97..'98..
DTS,
It is a great time to think back on the great memories as we are at the stage where everyone is reciting what their knowledge about the great Muay Thai fighters of the 80's-90's up until today. I will include some pics of the first ever inter-club fights and the progression to International shows we promoted in the west, down under. (apologies to Prior M & others for including this off-topic subject but atleast we can relate to it in some ways.)
I can see that, on some other threads Colin.H has brought about talk on the greats of Great Britain, The Netherlands and he should include France(where Krongsak has promoted & taught Muay Thai & also Europe- a great fighter in the era of Fanta, Sagat Petchyindee , Samart Payakaroon etc.)!
Pioneer.
France had always been my No2 for MT and many times in past threads we have debated the French. Kronsak has been a favourite of mine always and his achievements rank as one of the best out there. He might have shocked Europe with his classic performance against Kaman but a glimps of his record in Thailand and the fighters who fell to him prove his greatness. The Pachy family deserve so much credit and i think also that Somsongs contributions deserve more credit.
Hi Colin.H
I agree with you about Somsong. Another great Muay Thai Fighter of the 80's was The Golden Legs, Phootphart Noi Voravudh who was my favourite fighter since I was a kid. I always like to see him fight. One more is Ramnamkhorng who was one of the first in France.
