hmmm...Tough one to call, I think Mayweather is possibly the hungrier fighter and De La Hoya is looking at another pay day but that said Oscar is a fookin class fighter.......

So in short ........... a tough one to call?

Agree, tough one and that is why is such a hot topic at the moment, i tend to lean for de la hoya due to vast experience at the highest level, but it will probably be down to the wire.
when are they fighting by the way?

vinny - I really hope Oscar takes the little fooker to school, just watched some of the build up on Sky and Mayweather is nowt but a little gobshite!!! He is a talented little gobshite but I do hope De La Hoya shut's the little bastard up.

Nice KO after around 6 or 7 rounds would be good!

Watching that 24/7 on Sky last night really sparked my interest. Mayweather's are mad, his dad looks like they've dug him up. I reckon it's a cardboard cut out to try and Phsyce Oscar.

After that I hope Oscar wins.

I don't think Oscar's looking at one last big pay day, think he realy wants to win this one, and look what happened last tiem soneone trash talked before getting inthe ring with Oscar, different class I know, but maybe somehting like is needed to bring out the best

Hope De La smahes him but its going to be hard for him, Mayweather seems like a total prick, no need for him to act like that cos he s a brilliant fighter anyway.

Hoya should be stronger and more hungry. Mayweather has acted a fool for no reason as the ticket, ppv and publicity was there from the very begininng didn't need his help to hype it

I admire the footwork of Mayweather.Hes fast, and has a wide variety of shots and changes stance to add to the confusion his speed creates. Unless he has the speed to get in and throw a couple of his best bodyshots, and then not get hit on the exit,i couldnt imagine he will stop dela hoya, but i could see him getting stopped if he hangs around long enough to get caught.oscar i think will be looking to corner him and mayweather will be looking to run. Boxer vs Fighter? or Big mouthed asshole vs Heat seeking missile? if floyd runs and oscar cant catch him then the "biggest fight in history" will be the "biggest stinker yet".After watching the youtube press releases,im looking to knock the shit outa one of them in particular myself lol

hard fight to call but Oscar has always risen up to brilliance when he takes a personal dislike to his opponent i.e. the vargas fight and as mayweather is so annoying i can see oscar giving him a doing should be a good fight.

i agree with your words baz. Some people get angry and lose the plot(which we suppose is the very intention of guys like mayweather) while others get even angrier and the very opposite happens. They use their anger as a motivational tool that ups the workrate and intensity. My best fights came when things became personal.I even beleive i could take a punch that would have otherwise knocked me out if my mind had not of been so made up.There are deep and personal issues re: the relationships between both fighters in regards to Mayweather senior(his dad) having coached Oscar(the guy who his dad chose over him,his own son) for quite some years.Thinking from this viewpoint its easy to see why Mayweather jnr is busting out of his skin to show Oscar just how he feels about the whole matter. What he was saying to Oscar wasnt just to get him angry and put him off his game. He was saying how he actually feels about Oscar and his dads relationship. If this is the case then Oscar vs Mayweather may be one of the best fights either of them will ever have. tick tick tick....

i dont know that much about big daddy mayweathers training expertise but i remember when i first saw him in Oscars corner and they were talking about teaching Oscar how to box.The corners advice during the fight 'you haz juz got ta box thiz guy,no wot im saying! Hard to see how this super trainer was any better than someone who had watched at least one or two rocky movies(only they reversed the toe to toe princaple "Rocky" used) 'you haz juz got ta box thiz guy,no wot im saying! "coomon juz pop out that jab and hit and run like my son duz....

I think Oscar needed a break from the game, thats all.His motivation had dried up,and it showed in his general manner,in and out of the ring. He wandered in the wilderness and "moses" mayweather showed up,to lead him to the promised land " but youse has got ta go thru adversity if u cant do wot da good lord commands you to". changing a successful fighters style for a completely different style that suits the trainer more than the fighter, is like employing a builder to build your house.Only he changes the plans, to suit his vision of how it should be.

DHL by DSQ round 2-3. Junior will low blow, butt, elbow and bite his way to a loss. His corner will riot violently, and be claiming a fix, and attack the Ref,Oscar and his corner crew and pretty boys purse will be forfeited. 50 cent will be there singing about the injustice of it all and Senior will be saying what looks to be deep meaningful heartfelt stuff about how it could have been a great fight if only oscar had paid him the 2million bucks he was asking for instead of disrespecting him by only offering a lousy 1million. (though surely he must know we still cant understand one damn word hes saying anyway!!) LOL

The weigh-in is about to become a famous happening again! tick tick tick...

noi666, its on sky sports 1 at 2am, well thts when the programmes starts they prob wont b on til 4 or 5!!

i'm wantin de la hoya to win this 1 purely bcos he has given the respect tht u should to ure opponent seen as it is a sport at the end of the day:P been watchin the 24/7 programme thts been on sky sports the past month n mayweather jus lacks alot of respect n sportsmanship in my opinion but maybe this is because it helps him before a fight. de la hoya is gettin on now a bit but dnt think he's in this jus 4 the money. mayweather is possibly 1 of the fastest boxers ive seen in my time! but does he hav the power to back his hands up? should b a really excitin fight! who will b the fitter out of the 2 tho? mayweather is still pretty young but de la hoya must hav the upperhand in experience!

That fight is exactly why boxing is dying! Mayweather runs and jabs, Oscar pushes the fight and flurries. Who wins? Mayweather.

Every announcer and play by play guy had Mayweather winning saying that his skills were superior. Running and jabbing is what makes a fighter skillful?!? Complete garbage!

Guess thats why they call it boxing.Hit and not get hit back as much as possable.Flody is fast and mobile allright. His style demands fast flurries with even faster exits for maximum effect. All those millions those guys earnt for one 12 round fight is incredable.Did anyone see the undercard fights?

The undercard fight between "Boom Boom" and "Rocky" was incredible. Two fighters who wanted to win big for the entire 12 rounds.

Personally thought the fight was nowhere near the hype. PBF just sat on backfoot all night, andis just a gobshite, and he proved that with the post-bout interview, where-as ODLH was a gentleman and classy with his interview.

Hoped ODLH would win but I think his age and the fact a long time out the ring proved too much for him which is unfortunate.

jus watched the fight again there! thought if anythin it could well hav been a draw!! was de la hoya mainly in the 1st half of the fight then mayweather in the second! mayweather probly was a bit more accurate wif his punches ryt enough but de la hoya battled the whole fight looked to b the far more agressive.

Whatever, the HBO interviewer needs to retire, he was shite and couldnt remember his questions half the time. He must have interviewed Bob Fitzsimmons he was that old.

Good last 10 seconds of the fight though.

'That fight is exactly why boxing is dying!....Oh how I wish the sport I am involved in was dying like boxing!!. the soon to happen death of boxing is much exaggerated. The PPV figures run into the millions.

It was not a great fight, but a good fight nonetheless. Certainly kept me watching for the 12 rounds.

P.J. Reilly
Posted: 2007-05-07 08:53:32
Colin, ok maybe dying is a slight exaggeration :). However, when the casual fan tunes in to a huge PPV fight, they expect to see two fighters going at it. This fight had one guy pushing the fight and moving forward and one guy smiling, clinching, jabbing and running.

Posted: 2007-05-07 13:59:36
De la hoya walked in instead using jab to move in,shame wasn,t what i wanted but kept me and Frankie excited as we yammer about fights all the time, next one Hatton v Castillo thats a scrap at least x

Yeah appreciate that PJ...Just that sometimes for me the craft of someone like Mayweather is just great to see...Such a high skill level.

And Vinny, think your right. He had early success by getting in close quick, but as the fight went on he needed that Jab to bridge the gap..or maybe tried and just couldn't get it off.

I agree with you guys, not the best fight i have seen of delahoya, on the other hand mayweather did a perfect job given the circumstances, it was strange as Oscar was doing a lot of the attacking even thoug he is the defending champion, but the attacking lacked focus and accuracy.
I would have maybe given a draw as the belt should be "taken" from the champ, or as it was the fight's was Floyd, i thought Oscar didn't quite deserve to win it.
Having said all that, was good to see 2 master craftsmen at work and a shame Floyd can't keep his mouth shut in the after fight interview, what a dick!

The man is desperate in his attempt to gain the respect that he doesnt feel is forthcoming from "the world". When i first saw him box i was amazed at the ease and style he showed in moving around the ring. All these years later i find my attention has shifted from his skill level to his manner outside of the ring and that totally takes away any positive notions i once had toward him.Oscar may well be the biggest prize prick in the world for all i know, but his words and actions allways leave a good impression and is deserving of respect for that aspect alone, whether he wins or loses.
