Hi Nathan,
Always a pleasure to bring you guys down and Marrianne i wont send you my rent card this time i promise!
Not gonna put the full line up on ax until a couple of weeks before the show as things happen and the line up can change at anytime.
Hi Liam Unfortunately i cant afford to put on every top girl in the country as it would work out very expensive.
I think we have some great talent on the show as the poster shows.
Christi couldn't make this one due to school commitments but am sure she will be on the next one.
Every show i will try and bring other fighters and new talent.

Thanks for your support Marianne. Would like to thank all the gyms and fighters and everyone who have supported me again. And i apoligise to those fighters that i couldnt match due to having too many fighters to match. If i matched everyone who gave me fighters i probably would of had two shows. I am still getting names given to me now!
Thanks again everyone who is supporting what i am doing i am just trying to promote the Ladys Thaiboxing as i think we deserve it!!
I have worked really hard on this promotion so i hope we get the support that we need and deserve.
And the best of luck to all the Ladys on the show. You are the ones that are making the show what it is!

had the pleasure of watching michelle grizzzle vs ruth ashdown last year at master as show and it was a close fight to call for me.should be very explosive with two strong fighters.

just shows how many top female fighters the country can produce.

the last ladykillers show was tremendous and a very much doubt that anybody will be disappointed with this show the way the poster looks.

only six weeks and counting for would should be a great display of talent.

can not wait to see all the action.

good luck to all the ladies .

The very best of luck with the show, to the promoters and all competing/supporting.

Great news Tricia, the I.K.F. Pro M.T.R. belts arrived today. Initially I was told I could expect them to arrive just days before the event, but we had them flown over special.

World Title - White,
Inter-Continental - White,
British Title - Red.

All boxed up with carry cases, and fully badged in colour showing date and location of the event, as well as the style format and weight class.

One less worry for you.

Hi Mordan,

The I.K.F. Championship belts are of the highest quality. However, your comments have been noted and I have contacted the I.K.F. head office.

National title belts, as with the English / Scottish / New Zealand etc.. carry the national flag on each side badge.

The I.K.F. are going to look to have a different set of flags on each of the side badges for the Inte-Continental and the World Title belts, so that we can include more nations -

NZ flag included :)

Lots of titles across the World have been fought without Knees to the head or without Full mauythai rules. At least Hilary has been given the chance to fight for a World title smeikl11. I could get into this but i won't.

Hey Neil I was just being a smart arse and not meaning any offence as I saw there was a Australian flag and not a NZ but there was a NZ fighting for the belt. It was more me joking between the whole Aust and NZ really. Sorry if it sounded like the belts weren't up to scratch as I'm sure they are as they have same great names fighting for them.

the only place you will regurlarly see 5x3 knees to the head and elbows for women is in thailand. same as in thailand u dont get c class and b class. over there (apart from sanctioned amateur bouts) its all full muay thai rules. over here its different, for whatever reasons. no one ever complains about mens bouts that are 5x2 no elbows etc, so i dont see why womens bouts should be considered any different. insurance and everything is different over here. if people want 2 see full thai rules, then we should scrap c class and b class and have everything A class as it is in thailand (apart from amateur over there like i said before). that just will never happen here. in thailand u dont hear of "oriental rules" "european rules" etc, it is what it is, 5 x 3 full thai rules, fucks sake, even the kids over there fight full thai rules but that simply will never happen here, our laws, insurance etc just dont cover it! im sure Tricia would have it like in thailand if the western way dictated but it doesn't (look at what happened with Bernice's world title fight in Holland-judged totally differently to how it would have been judged in Thailand).
the girls will have trained just as hard for this as if they were fighting full thai rules and they are adapting to the conditions our country and laws dictate, and it will be a great display of talent whatever.
(sorry, not meaning to argue, i just think that Tricia should be applauded for getting this together in the first place-england isn't thailand and never will be but events like this can only be positive in raising the profile of all the amazing female fighters that the UK has)

Tricia's event will be tip-top. As an experienced promoter for many years, for those that have never organised an event, truely let me say how hard it is.

Further too, Tricia has gone one step further by organising a 'ladies only event' which although produces the 'Lady-Killers' Brand, considerably narrows options and flexibilty that most promoters require before putting in such commitment.

How many MT shows, now have to be a mixed event - in the U.K. these days, many. Maybe ladies and gents bouts - plus kids bouts, plus different rule format ( Oriental/K-1 rules or Full-Contact rules or Amateur rules ) kickboxing contests and most recently 'M.M.A.' bouts too.

To promote from the angle of an exclusive brand takes a lot of courage - certainly something Tricia and Pele have plenty of.

I hope the event is a great success, and that those that are maybe unhappy with anything, take on board what I have posted before adding their pennies worth. An promotion like this is great for the ladies, and I hope Tricia's Lady-Killers events go from strength to strength.

I promoted Sheree Halliday Vs Sam Mitchell and that was full rules. Basically, if you have two fighters who want to fight those rules, then there is no reason why not.

I think Liam was trying to make the point that if it is for a world title then it should be FTR. I agree, but I also appreciate that there are many mens 'world Muay thai titles' that are not full rules. Not everyone wants to fight full rules.

Really looking forward to this show, some very good match ups, well done Tricia, hope its a success.

I was meant to be fighting a girl from KO gym, but they have swapped my opponent around three times with three different girls from their gym, and consequently pulled out so i dont have an opponent as of yet..
Tricia is working hard to find me a match but it is so annoying to have someone pull out on you after i training hard and being professional in maintaining weight etc, then to be told they want me to weigh in 60kg on the day, which is unfair to make demands when i have been the one messed about..
I dont understand why people think they have a superior status in thai boxing and then act in such an unprofessional manner.
What i also dont get is why people commit to fights when they know that they have no intention of honoring such commitments, it gives the sport a bad name and disrupts peoples progression..
Gary has Reece his son fighting on Paul Hamilton's bill the same day but we had committed to Tricia's show first to give her deserved support, so i could also have been fighting on the same show.

But Like i say this is not tricia's fault and i appreciate that she is trying to get me a match as obviously there are other people to think about. So i apologise to Tricia for ranting But i am annoyed as this has happened to me a few times and i think that people should be made aware of such time wasters..
I contemplated posting about this as i do not want to undermine tricia or anything like that but i am frustrated lol.
Anyway my rant is over.. Looking forward to the show I will be there with our other lady who is fighting Wendy Bake, But i will continue training my arse off just incase.

One of the main problems with that is that, you sell less tickets for a none title fight than you do for a title fight, FACT! regardless of who is fighting who. And I said the Calerdonian fighters, nothing about the others. maybe they wouldnt take the fight with hilary unless there was the added incentive of a title.

Hi ,

Just need to address a certain point .

Strong words on a public forum without the full facts.

I was not sure if Bianca or Annabel (as Bianca was awaiting a fight in Auss which was confirmed )would take the fight . I confirmed Annabel

Annabel Gely was matched at 61kg (wieght in day before )5x2 min to fight Sam .Annabell damaged her knee in sparring so made the call to inform the promoter and offered (Lighter 58kg less experienced with short notice fighter) Anna Z but as she was lighter and less experienced then Sam , same day as the wieght difference would be to much . I did this to try and help as i know how devasting a pull out is ! .

I also have offered stand bye fighters in the case of pull outs and injuries at other weights . To say "I had no intention of honouring the agreement" is harsh . Annabel is a dedicated fighter taken time of work to train hard and prepared to travel for the bout . As with all fightered injured worried ,depressed she just wants to fight .

Daz im not quite sure what your on about i was just sayin its weird having a world title fight then stepping 3 levels back down to fight for a british...would never see that in boxing unless the fighter failed fighting for that title....i dont know who Nicola simpson is...fights i will bet on are

Sarah Mcarthy vs sarah Adams
Ruth Ashdown vs Michelle Grizzle
Jojo vs Kat steele
and Kim shannon and whoever she is fighting no more than £20 a fight tho...i aint nigel ashton offering people out for 5grand and shit ha.

would like make a few points about hilary fighting jackie on our show in Carlisle.Firstly i am promoting the show along with mike haslam and we asked hilary if she would like a re-match with jackie not the other way round and its for a title because there is 1 vacant at their weight and as trisha knows no one wants to fight either of these girls in this country hence the reason why they are both fighting girls from different countries.

It is wierd having a world title fight and then stepping down to do a British, and you wouldn't see it in boxing, but we aren boxing. Would Hilary have taken both fights without their being a title on yes for sure I reckon. Don't know the other girls so I can't comment.

I can't bet as i ma supposed to be judging, but text me who you think will win Grizzle v Ashdown for interests sake

Posted: 2008-02-06 17:47:11
Nothing to do with the titles as i'm not sure the ins and outs of what the situation is regarding them. All i know is that Hilary sometimes finds it difficult to get matched in the UK so when two promoters come along and offer her two huge fights then she will and has jumped at the chance. She has fought for and won titles up to 60kg before - not because she wanted the title but simply because she wanted to stay active and had few fight options left. From what she has said the World title fight is an honour to fight for and she is looking forward to the rematch with Jackie.

The fights for hilary and Jackie on the lady killers show where not title fights when the fights were first agreed so you cant say that either of them will only fight if there is a title on the line.

Unfair comments from people not from people new to the sport, but people who undersand the game.

Unfortunately there is no singular sanctioning body in the U.K.

Should someone win an IKF title on this event, and then have another championship bout on their following contest - if the promoters on the following contest would like to upgrade their bout to a IKF title "DEFENCE" then there is nothing to say this may not happen.

All the promoter have to do, is contact the IKF - who will be more than happy to accomodate.

Worse than "World Champions" ( as could possible happen here ) stepping down 3 levels for a "British title", is when "World Champions" ( or any in that case ) take " PRESTIGE " bouts. Especially when they lose, and then still happily address themselves with the title, "World Champion".

( in the sport of Boxing, if a Champion has a bout in the same division that could have been a defence yet is not - and he loses - his title falls vacant ).

Keep your eyes on the next several high profile Pro. shows in the U.K. and see how many champions actually make title defences or unifications. If competing without defending a title ( prestige ) meant that the title status was lost, then the sport would be much better. Mr X on his 6th title defence, would be much more interesting than "Supa-Doopa-Doopa-Prestige bouts" Two Champions enter, one Champion leaves...

I have seen on numerous occasions "prestige" bouts and heard the question posed by people in the audience as why a contest featuring a Champion is not a title defence.

In a sport, where athletes give so much yet the rewards are so small, looking back over a career of trophies and belts is all many have.

Lets just suport all of the athletes, especially those representing their countries, their trainers and the promoters.

Support the sport - and take the game forward.

tricia is putting alot into promoting this show like all promoters do, so as other posts have said, why not just support the ladies fighting on the show and leave the politics of titles etc to the promoter and trainers and let them discuss it in private.
the show looks fantastic and whether for a title or not,the girls fighting are top class and it looks like another a great nite.
the last ladykillers show was really popular and its great to see another show and think we should all support the girls and pack the place out.
good luck to all the ladies fighting.

Hey Darren and Liam - yeah, it's a little weird going from a world challenge to a british challenge, and too be honest, Darren hit the nail on the head, none of our people care for titles much, but if it allows the promoters to push a show in terms of interest or advertising then so be it, particularly in the women's game, where matches can be sporadic, feast then famine in terms of availability of opponents. I would rather the fighters got paid more rather than sanction fees etc going towards a title shot, but that's cause i'm a tight scot! Ideally Hil would like to be fighting full rules all the time, apart from anything else, inconsistency of rules is just another factor in being prepared for the fight that can chew up some valuable mental space. In the women's game it's difficult to find concensus, it's bad enough moving fighters from a to b class, but if you want your fighters to remain busy, then it is necessary to accept this as part of the deal.
Ultimately, title or not, it's the quality of the people you fight that matter, and I am grateful to Tricia to have organised quality international opposition so that Hilary can showcase why she is the best 53kg fighter in the uk at the moment, with or without elbows.
To the fighters - Hil, Jo, and Kirsty - we believe! cheers to all the caley crew, and lanark dinky ninjas for the hard work. See you all on saturday. Ladykillers rocks.

Parrie Webb v Ann Larson
Parrie scored well in the first round, Ann came back in the 2nd but couldn’t keep it going and Parrie took the third for a points victory.

Jill Watmough v Wendy Bake
This was a close fight, Wendy did well to catch Jill’s leg when she kicked but was unable to capitalise on it for a big score. Jill moved Wendy a couple of times off her low kicks to take a close points victory.

Rachael Clements v Rachael Price –Waterhouse
Price-Waterhouse pressed forward from the start with very strong boxing, forcing the younger Clements to take standing counts in both the first and second. The corner stopped the fight in between the second and third rounds.

Sarah Morris v Sophia Thompson
Sarah tried hard to make a up for the massive height difference but couldn’t really pull it off and Sophia took a points victory

Kirtsy Mack v Kim Shannon
For me this was the best of the three round fights, a close fight which I think demands a rematch over five rounds. Kirtsy scored the better of the two, despite Kim pressure. Kirsty winning on points

Sarah Mcarthy v Sarah Adams
A good first round with Sarah M landing some nice knees towards the end of the first. The second started off were the first finished, Sarah M landing some heavy knees and right hands, forcing the ref to stop the fight in the second. A good performance from Sarah M who improves big with every fight.

Abbie Jones v Nicola Simpson
Abbie is a young girl with six fights under her belt and was giving away way too much experience against Nicola Simpson, a very strong and exp fighter. The gulf showed with Abbie taking counts in ever round, but soaking it up and going the distance. Abbie’s corner new the other girls experience and where happy to take the fight.

Lindsey Holmes v Mandy Stainthorpe.
Mandy scored well in the latter two rounds with her knees to take a points victory.

After the break the first of the five rounders, and for me the fight of the night.

Ruth Ashdown v Michelle Grizzle
Rematch from their fight in October, which again was very close with opinions mixed as to the decision.

Round one was close, with some good knee exchanges, Round two saw Michelle turn Ruth and land a couple of knees to the back, good score!
In the third round Ruth kept her distance better and started to land some good body kicks. In the fourth Michelle again turned Ruth but didn’t score well after and also nearly took Ruth to the floor in the clinch but couldn’t keep her own feet. Ruth kept plugging away with the body kicks, one in particular landing half across Michelle’s back as she turned. In the fourth Michelle went looking to unload some big punches bit this fell into Ruth’s hands as she simply kept her distance and wacked in her body kick as Michelle went to unload.
At the bell Ruth was given a split decision, which Michell and her corner where not happy with and some of the crowd voiced their disappointment with. I gave the fight to Ruth, simply because her body kicks were so good in the latter half of the fight. However, having seen Michelle fight several times I think this was a good Muay Thai performance from her and maybe the girls should have the deciding rubber so to speak.

Helen garnet v Zoey Mason. A composed performance from Helen throughout, Zoey never stopped fighting but Helen was always just a step ahead. She picked it up in the last round and forced the ref to stop the fight after landing some bit heavy head shots.

Jackie Short v Emily Bearden. Emily started well and landed some good accurate front kicks and roundhouses. However it became apparent that she didn’t want to clinch with Jackie. Jackie pressed forward in the latter half of the fight with the knees as Emily tired. Jackie winning a unanimous points victory.

Hilary Mack v Michelle Preston

Round one, Hilary caught Michelle’s leg early and throwing her to the floor kicked her in the head as she was going down, big score, coupled with the knees she landed and a good teep gave Hilary the first round.
Round two, Michelle pressed forward with her hands, she knows Hilary doesn’t like to be boxed and was looking tired. She didn’t land many scoring shots but I gave Michelle the second.
Round three and four were similar, good knee exchanges but Hilary’s were landing more with the knee compared to Michelle’s with the inside of the thigh. Hilary was looking tired, but she had looked like that since she got into the ring. I gave the third and the fourth to Hilary.
Michelle went searching for it in the last round with non stop pressure and I gave her the last round.

Result split decision with scores of 48:49 50:49 49;48 to Michelle. A close fight and a good example of Muay Thai.

Overall I thought the show was good and probably better than the first one.

There were some good girls on and a high level of skill in some of the fights. The venue was also very nice and I am looking forward to being back there with Thrasher when he fight on the undercard of Frankie v Tim

Well done Tricia and Pele

One more thing Pele is an excellent referee, something people forget, if you need one speak to him.

CONGRATULATIONS TRICIA...it was a brilliant night of fights. The venue was wicked and the security were really nice too.

i am so glad we made the trip down.

the fights were all really entertaining but especially happy for sarah badco-who was completely ace (stoppages in her last 2 fights),
Ruth Ashdown deserved her win and i thought she handled herself really well after the fight coz some (a small portion) of the crowd behaved not very nicely to her.
the last fighter from golden team (Nicola?)stuck in my mind as well-she had the most amazing right high kick, she had stopped throwing them by the third round but they were great.

but fighter of the night for me was Helene Garnet, i was looking forward to seeing her fight so much. She is just pure class-credit to Zoe Mason who took some punishment in the face, Zoe did well-she just kept going and against a less powerful opponent probably would've won easily but Helene has ridiculously strong punching power for someone her size. Zoe was visibly upset at the stoppage but Helene showed true sportsmanship and went straight over to console her.
Helene also gave me her shorts at the end of the night (the one's she donated to the raffle but then won in the raffle Lol) so i officially am in love with her!!!

was a great night Tricia, these shows are just going to get better and better!

and it was really nice to meet Keith and Damien Kstar and Nathan K.

for some reason i had it in my head Hilary mack vs Michelle was 5x3s dont know why...Hilary looked very drained at the weigh in and it showed in her performance she looked very tired after the 1st round and didnt seem herself. the fight was close but dont think you could argue with the decision really had it gone the other way either it was one of those fights. however id had a few drinks by then so didnt even try to judge it.
Ruth Ashdowns body kicks were very good and were landing clean in round 4 and 5. Michelle was strong in the clinch and did some nice turns but the body kicks from ruth did it for me.
Helen Garnett is such a nice down to earth lady outside the ring but when the 1st bell goes she is possesed by the evil devil of mashdown-ness she was fantastic and a pleasure to watch as always.....got to give props to her opponent for stepping up to the plate i dont think she was as experienced but put in a good account of herself against IMO the best pound 4 pound female fighter in this country....would love to see Helen fight for a world title on the next LadyKiller show.

Hi, fellow axers!

Once again another entertaining Ladykillers event! The fights were quality (well, most!) and that Helen Garnett........DAMN!! Talk about explosive! She can so some damage, man!

It think it was a damn shame that Kim Shannons 2nd round was rob by one minute. The bell rang only one minute into the 2nd round and not a damn thing was done about it. Hopefully there will be a re-match. 5 round re-match.

The Ruth Ashdown, Michelle Grizzle fight I also disagreed with. Don't want to start going on about it again.

It was a pleasure to meet some of the people that Ive only had contact with on the internet. Gemma Coast and Marianne (sorry, dont know your last name!) it was a pleasure meeting you. Marianne, when you approached me, the first thing I thought was "DAMN, whose this pretty one!" LOL

Anyway, enough of that! Well done to Tricia and Pele (Tricia, you looked like you was training the way you was walking around! You looked so, so, soooo busy!!) Can't wait for the next event!

Brilliant show, all the fights were great and a credit to promoting femalethai Boxing.
Helen Garnett was impressive as always, and agree that she definately deserves a world title shot.Credit to Zoey Mason for taking the fight&having great heart throughout the fight.
Really enjoyed the Ruth Ashdown and Michelle Grizzle fight, 5 rounds of non stop work from both girls and was a very entertaining fight.
Hilary's knee work was excellent, although i agree she did look tired as it was quite late when she fought but both girls put on a great performance and very worthy of the world title fight.
I also thought that Kirsty Mack was very composed and fought a good fight against Kim shannon.
Well done nicola simpson & Sarah Mcarthy too.
Of course all the other girls fighting did very well, and did themselves proud.

The venue was fantastic, well turned out and everything ran very smoothly. Congrats Tricia and Pele on such a successful show.

well done tricia on a very well run show, i have always said that the girls
listen and take it in and the lads listen and one day it will sink in, the
woman were on fire last night i was glued from beginning to end well up until
the bit when some spikey haired toe rag from leeds started harrassing me over
money lol (well done liam although i felt your were badgering the officials
slightley ha ha lol).
And yes dazza your right people dont realise how long and how experianced
Pele is as a referee i have got videos from the 80s were Pele is refing at
the springfield hotel he hasnt changed much...
Well Done to Tricia and Pele. Good Show

Superb show last night, great venue, some very well matched fights, also ran very smoothly/professionally. well done to all the fighters especially sarah mc, who, as said before, is improving with every fight. Helen Garnett, lovely down to earth girl, (wouldn't like to upset her though ;-)
Ruth and Michelle's fight was a close call, I personally had Michelle winning from the start, due to Ruth seeming to get too close to fire off comfortably, and Michelle throwing some lovely knees after turning Ruth, but as Dazza said Ruth came back with a barrage of solid body kicks in last 2-3 rounds, they didn't seem to bother Michelle much but they score.best of three seems inevitable. good to catch up eith the usual suspects, vinny, paulo, john j,martin and the security team etc etc.
And as a few people have already said Pele is a class ref, just looks relaxed and makes it look easy. I think a quality ref contributes to the fighters performance in general, good vibes etc.
Well done to Tricia and Pele, also would like to wish Ashley good luck against the russian in a couple of weeks, don't forget the thermals pal ;-)

Thanks Tricia/Pele for having us up on the show and putting on the rematch
I didnt think the fight dissapointed it was 5 good rounds of action.

Vey surprised anyone thought Michelle won and the Booing and abuse from a mindless few was a shame - obviously not educated in Muaythai scoring

Well Done Ruth!! you trained really hard for that fight and you did
exactly what was needed in rounds 3,4 and 5. Congratulations Champ!!

Nice to see everyone, sorry I wasnt my usual bubbly self(ha ha) had some killer bug that would of killed a normal man - Lol.

Great show tricia, I didnt agree with the Ruth - Michelle decision, I gave Michelle 4 of the 5 rounds, and I know that there were alot of people in the audience (aside from the booing contingent which i dont agree with) that disagreed with the result. I also think a decider is the only way to settle this one.
Helene Garnett- who i have never seen fight before was for me the best fighter on the show, she was an absolute treat to watch, i would however like to give Zoe Mason from touch gloves some credit for her gutsy performance, im sure even helene will agree that give Zoe more experience and a bit more power and she will be a real force to content with for the future, she showed some guts and some real quality
Nicola Simpson from Golden Team was for me the best of the 3 rounders, her opponent took some big shots and came back well in the last round, but Nicola outclassed her, im not sure why Nicola is still fighting 3 rounders for my money she should be stepping up in class.
Jakie and Emily- nice to meet Emily and to meet up with Jakie again. a close fight at the start i thought, Jakie for me took it in the clinch especially inthe last 2 rounds, nice clean knees that seemed to trouble Emily,
Michelle and Hilary - good fight, I thought Michelle did well on the outside and the girls were about even on the inside for the most part. Good fight.
Well done to everyone involved, very professional well run show, in fact we got lost on the way there so were late, my husband was convinced it wouldnt start on time "as they never do" so he tells me, this show ran like clockwork!

Hi Thanks to everyone who supported us on Saturday.
Hi Rachel sorry i didnt have a chance to speak to you ol! But great to see you there! Nicola Simpson was actually helping us out big time thats why she was doing a 3 rounder but am sure if they are available we will get her on the next one over 5 rounds.
All fights where great and entertaining. And thanks to all the nice comments me and Pele put a lot of hard work into the show, so i am glad everyone liked it!
Thanks again Tricia

4 of the 5 rounds????????? if you are goin to take as many body kicks as michelle did you would have to totally anihalate your opponent in all other aspects...it was close so michelle did some nice knee work early on but ruth really found her range in 4 and 5.

yes the judging was spot on all night, people tend to watch what goes on
upstairs in a fight, but with the Ruth/Michelle fight people were seeing
Michelle punching Ruth in the face but Ruth was catching Michelle with the
leg kick when she was stepping in with the punch, in muay thai kicks score
more than punches, i know Michelle was upset it was close but she wasnt no
were near as upset as me Lol.

Top show Trish and Pale. Big thanks for inviting me along.

I think all the decisions where top bar one!!!!

Crowd reaction was harsh on Ruth but in my opinion it was a close fight but i def think she won by two rounds, shaper knee, nice jab and a front kick that knock Ruth back quite alot.

"not criticizing" but knees and the stronger fighter in the clinch would be favoured in Thai rules.......

you probably raise a good point. Judging can appear to be very subjective at times. The problem is understanding the scoring sysytem. The fight between Hillary and Michelle Preston is an example. Dazzathai gave it to Hillary and the judges gave it to Michelle by split decision. Others who saw the fight said Michelle would have won every round as she was too fit and busy for Hillary. Just the way it goes I guess. Congratulations on what appears to have been a great promotion all the same.

Being "busy" has nothing to do with the judging of a Muay Thai fight

So was it Split decision or Unanimous points win to Michelle?

Congrats to all who fought on the show. Good to see the girls getting a big show all to themselves. I wasn't there so can't comment as i have not seen the fights yet, but everyone i have spoke to about the show/fights have all said the same thing which is that Ruth won as was bodykicking michelle big time. all said the she was accurate and sharp with them, congrats to John Jarvis and Ruth and the team. Same with hil, she was tired and had succes in clinch but got out scored on the outside. And everyone has told me how good Helen was. Alway's is when i see her fight, the beast. Like i say wasn't there but this has come from top judges and fighters alike, still id say only 70% of people actually no what does and doesnt score in Muay Thai. Same old debate again.

@ boa Rogue - See above from Dazzathethai :

"Result split decision with scores of 48:49 50:49 49;48 to Michelle. A close fight and a good example of Muay Thai."

Unanimous as a term means all judges agreed. Split decision means two judges fighter A. The third judge gives it to fighter B.

A majority decision is where two judges score in favour of fighter A. The third judge gives it a draw.

Conversely two judges could give it a draw and the third judge favours either A or B.

So in Michelles case. Two judges saw her winning. The third gave the fight to her opponent.

And as Darren opinions work rate is not a scoring criteria. Strikes on target, unbalancing or causing your opponent to be unbalanced are. in a word Effect

When you use the term workrate (hopefully) it is not talking about a fighter who is moving around the ring punching and kicking the air. It is referring to the amount of shots landed clean. I have talked to more than one person there who said Michelle should have won every round. The corner were expecting Michelle to KO Hillary as she was landed good clean punches. Three hard knee's landed against 5-6 clean knee's who gets the round? Does that even it up. That is workrate. One fighter might land two good hard punches while the opponent lands 8-10 clean shots not so hard, that is workrate and that should win a round. While the power is definitly the winner if the workrate is higher landing good clean shots, workrate wins. I don't know in the UK but down under we score the fighter who lands more. That is what we refer to as workrate down here.

its too difficult to say without actually seeing the clean punches land as you need to see who the person on the receiving end takes the shot, if they wobble or lose position or back off they are scored against but if they remain composed, hold position and counter with a few knees they would win the round even if they took more punches. still hard to actually make comment without seeing a particular example.

in brief. all techniques score and score equally provided they show effect. showing effect as opposed to effective is quite a distinction.

should fighter A land on target and box prolifically but not unbalance, cause to unbalance or displace the opponent yet fighter B strikes with a body shot (assumed to score always) or boxing of his own that causes effect then B wins the exchange.

MIchelle v Hilary was difficult to judge in that: Hilary was landing the cleaner Thai scoring techniques, but getting tired, Michelle pressured with her boxing and low kicks, very little of which landed well, her knees were more than with the inside of her leg than her knee, but she was the fresher at the end of the fight!

Had Hilary not been so tired at the end of the fight, she should have won the fight easily!

this judging thing gets more confusing all the time!!!

All three judges gave it a point either way, which proves it was a very close fight. Thats why there are three judges at three different sides of the ring, to give three different views.
Michelle fought well and won Focus, enjoy the win mate , all the best in the future. I think it's good to discuss judging as it should help us all understand it better.

Sounds like a great show and I appreciate everyones comments. Many have explained the official reasoning behind judging, unfortunately it is always open to interpretation. Good discussion though and hope all goes well in the sport for the future.
