Andre Kotsur Vs Tim Thomas AMAZING!!!
That fight is a World Title on its own.

Are Thrasher and Gordon Smith going to fight each other on the card anyway?

Just when you thought you had picked your winner after all the deliberating....sorry to hear about Andy and Gordon not making weight. Great opportunity for Dave and Craig plus Andre now in the mix...good on Liam for going straight after Kev, that's going to be interesting - I'm going to have to go for whoever wins that fight to take it all.

Good luck to Damien and Dean in their fights!

Hey Folks,
Quick update:

Ok so there obviously were some (very) last minute changes to the tournament.
Most importantly THRASHER OUT & SMITH OUT!
A real shame for Gordon Smith who took this fight at a weeks notice and managed to get from over 75kgs to 68.1kg when he stepped on the scales for the second time today (After a 6.5hr drive followed by sauna), really feel bad for him and he and his team have decided to head straight back to Glasgow (safe journey guys).
I'm not entirely sure of the circumstances around Thrasher, I didn't really get a chance to speak to him but I understand that he is having some real stomach pain. Add to that the fact he did still have a couple of kilos or so to shift, I think for the sake of his health a decision was made to withdraw him from the tournament.

On the PLUS side...ANDRE KOTSUR! Who saw that coming?
Typical Dan keeping something like that up his sleeve, haha.

So...to give a clearer picture of how the draw took place...8 balls in a bag (numbered 1-8), the fighters were invited to retrieve a ball from the bag in the order that they MADE weight.

As Harper had drawn ball no 1, he was entitled to choose where he fought and so on and so on...

The end result was as follows:

QF1
Kevin Harper (Majestic) v Liam Robinson (Pra Chao Sua)
the winner of the above fight will face the winner of:
QF2
Kerrith Bhella (Firewalker) v Thomas McCormick (Wicker Camp)

QF3
Andre Kotsur (Kick Fighters, Belarus) v Tim 'TNT' Thomas (Naksoo)
the winner of the above will face the winner of:
QF4
Dave Copstake (K Star) v Craig Dickson (SMTC)

Surprise (tactical decisions were:
Robbo opted to face Harper first (a tough fight for sure but by going here he avoided his big hitting frien Tim Thomas atleast until the final)

Looks like Harper will find out EXACTLY who Robinson is, lol!

Tim 'TNT' Thomas opted to face Kotsur first (another tough opening bout and like Farhad said...two world class fighters, this one will have fireworks)

Anyway folks, gonna log off now. This show is shaping up to be an absolute belter, Sunny Hira v Raj Sallan is expected to be awesome too.

Dean James AND Damien Trainor too...Muay Thai at it's best.
Chok Dee to all fighters!

Down in Birmingham after the weigh ins. Big shame that Andy and Gordon didn't make weight. Both great fighters. Thrasher wasn't we at all, disapponted not to be seeing him in action.

Anyway....Huge opportunity for Craig Dickson. Stepped into the breach with two days notice. Balls of steel. Representing SMTC and the whole of Scotland on such a great show. Really talented fighter...looking forward to seeing him crash into the big scene!!! That's right mark, it's oor Craig !! Haha. Thanks to Dan for having him on.

Robbed? Hmmm dont agree there. He got his face punched & elbowed to pieces along with his body & legs kicked to death in the first 2 rounds. He fought very slow for a 3round fight. However he had a big 3rd round along with good throws throughout the fight in my opinion.

Kotsur was very impressive & extremely sharp. Nice to see a British fighter like James with such a dominant thai style - Fighter of the night.

Wow just got in....
rushed back and had a couple of celebratery drinks at my local
nightclub.. well done Dan Green. Was a great show.Had quite a few pullouts in the tournamenrt but was an excellent tourny anyhow!
I personally thought Liam won his fight with Kevin.
Andrei just nicked the Thomas bout.
For me Mcormick was excellent tonight, 1st time I have seen him and I was very impressed, didnt really get out of second gear in his 1st two fights, thought Kotsur was gonna have a very uphill battle in final but the Belarussian showed his class and experience and was too good. Well done Andrei.
Not bad winning a 67kg tourny with 6 days notice for a 63.5kg fighter..
Was well worth the drive up, enjoyed seeing everyone and loved
the show.

Think a Kotsur v Thomas 5 rounder would be very entertaining
as would Kotsur v Thrasher or Khan....?

And he has some ridiculous KO ratio too.
Haha Damn Turner ,

Despite changes to the line-up, Dan and his team put on another excellent show, well done mate. I missed a number of fights but the ones I did see were a great advertisement for Muay Thai.

I was pleased with Pindi’s (Liam’s gym) performance (as was Liam) in the opening fight of the night. He fought a technically competent, clinical and controlled fight to win against a very game opponent –a really good performance for only his third fight.

Well done to Andre Kotsur an excellent win in a weight class above his usual fighting weight. He did well to beat a strong and skilful Thomas McCormick (Both really nice guys). Despite dropouts, the tournament proved really interesting and at times a little controversial, which added to the drama. I didn’t see all the tournament fights, but the ones I watched were really interesting and entertaining.

I was really proud of Liam (Robinson) - both in choosing to fight Kev (Harper) and then again in the fight. Liam showed something of his real ability in round three against Kev who a great fighter and a seasoned warrior. I really hope this is a stepping stone for Liam to really shine against the best UK fighters in the division now.

Damien did really well to control a very game and really awkward opponent who was scoring well early in the fight. Damien took charge with some nice skills in the last two rounds to secure victory.

I couldn’t be more proud of Dean (James), who put in a simply outstanding performance and his best to date, against a very tough opponent who had a massive heart. Dean delivered a non-stop barrage of fast and hard long knees mixed in with sharp kicks and elbows. After pulling ahead in the second, Dean completely dominated using a range of weapons although it was the knees that did the damage to Giang Hoang. I was surprised Giang managed to beat the count (his second to that point) after getting dropped but his ribs had gone a few seconds later. Dean is improving with every fight and was stronger and sharper in this fight than in previous fights. He is definitely improving all the time but has the potential to develop so much more...definitely the beginning of an exciting journey for Dean, Pra Chao Suua and British Muay Thai.

It is very difficult to score a 3 round Thaiboxing match, and the scoring system should have been made clearer on which round scores more if people are saying Liam won. I saw Kevin win the first 2 rounds and Liam take the 3rd. So fairly easy to do the maths. 2 is more than 1 so 2 wins.
Wainey
Posted: 2010-09-13 05:36:45
that all depends on how you apply the scoring criteria mate if you applied it correct then i think you would have a different view...

Haider (80_B), while I am not commenting on Liam's fight in any way, you can score 3 round fights using exactly the same criteria and principles as five round fights otherwise it is not really Muay Thai(although five rounds are clearer because they are longer).

It is not a case that one round is more important than another, but rather it is how big rounds are won by. For example, if in a three round fight a boxer won the first round by a large margin, the other boxer would need to "catch up" and "pass" their opponent to win, by winning the other rounds by a bigger margin - cumulatively speaking - than the margin of victory their opponent gained in the first round. If the cumulative margin of victory in the following two rounds did not surpass their opponent's big win in round one, they would lose (or draw depending on the margin of victory). That said, it is often the case that the later rounds as boxers get tired, that as such larger margins of victory are generally observed.

Not been to a show for about 10 years. Great to see a show with great production and fights.

I took a few of the lads form our club, for most of them it was the first they'd seen a live fights, they loved it and definatley got inspired.

Some good highlights throughout the night, most have already been mentioned

Well done all involved - look forward to the next one

Its important to remember that the minimum criteria for judges on a UKMF show are that they have been assessed by Tony Myers and passed his judging and scoring course.

I was not there nor am i in a position to comment or presume to do so. But can clearly recognise that when a show by necessity changes the rules under which a bout is contested it may be that the scoring alters too.

It think we all recognise the scoring criteria best suits a 5 round contest. So maybe in place of 3x3 the fights run over 5x2.

3x3 with 2 mins between rounds total 13 mins.

5x2 with 1 min between rounds total 14 mins.

would that not work better for scoring?

well you better get your facts right as 1 i was not out cold and 2 not out stiff.... i aint gonna piss about going on and on if you got something to say to me or have a problem you know who i am obviously so introduce yourself at a show if im judging or there !!!!!

Wainey is a great fighter and the man ,
we all get beat ,
I love Waineys style , and personally know hes got a rock solid head ,
He just got caught and paul went in for the kill.
Bit of a prick bringing up his loss on here arent you ,
is that because you couldnt get your point intelligently across ?

Then why would i write it correct English ?
i can use apostrophes fine thanks ,
i did very well in English Language A level.
I just have no idea what your comment had to do with mine OR waineys.
Putting a point across is nothing to do with spelling.
im sure you still got the pragmatics of the sentence.
why be pedantic ?
because you had no intelligent point of argument again ?
