Nathan Bendon (Corefit)
There will be Super Fights on this card as well the first featuring Dean James amongst others!
Tickets will be available for this event real soon, we will be selling VIP tables with x3 course meals, Standard Adult and Junior tickets as well.
Anyone wanting to enter the tournament or fight on the show please email me at yogiboxer@hotmail.co.uk
Thanks for the support guys just got this sorted today and really buzzing about it! I love 8 man tournys just for the headache alone and the venue is the biggest and the most prestigious in the West Midlands, will definately put Birmingham back on the map again, especially with the card im working on already!!
Any suggestions for the 8 Man tourney guys im after the best guys out there!!
Nathan is a good friend of mine so in no way is this disrespecting him but he shudnt be in the same tourney as mcCormick but fair play to him fr throwing him self in at the deepend and i hope he takes it good luck nath !
brad will be tough for anyone but the elite who have strength adv. his size and skill are amazing. plus dedication.good luck nathan, big task in your 2nd a class, train hard and show your skill mate.
hope turbill is in this .most underrated fighter in uk . imho beat reece when he was the man to come back 2 uk an ko most, stopped till n ben l. true warrior
defo tim if he's up for it...hopefully see a preview fight for timmy V tommi! id throw salah in the mix, i know he'd love to test himself against the best @67
What a show. The venue looks great as well. I remember the old days of the Tower Ballroom shows been the best in the midlands and you have just blown them out of the water. Tom vs Brad would be such a good fight. Nathan bendon in the mix is a bit risky though maybe too much of a step up ??
I mean this with no disrespect. I like Nathan bendon as a fighter and has such a good future in the sport. However he shouldn't be in this tournament. His never really fought a class, he doesn't fight at this weight, his too small, he should still be fighting b class, so far there isnt a person he could beat in it. Thats not he cant beat them later on down the line. He has only fought one bigish name in pindi and even then he isnt great.I don't want to see his career ruined by getting the wrong fights. He shold be fighting through the b class people first. This is taking nothing away from the show it looks amazing and i will be the first to buy a ticket when they go on sale if there's tables going well will take one. Awsome line up. I Dont mean to rank but this is a bad mistake.
Turner would be a good shout for this from ours as would Badger or Imran. But badger just point blank doesnt want to fight in a tourny and also has a couple of fights lined up around that time and not long after, as Imran also fights 11th March and Turner end of April @ Townhall in Leeds, too risky for Richard to stick him in an 8 man that close. Defo get Josh Turbull in this Yogi mate, loves a battle and would really be an outside bet id have money on.
Good luck with the show mate, i'll see you on Sat up here, and i'm sure we may have 1 or 2 lads for the undercard maybe, will have a chat with Richard pal. x
Hi Shane, really appreciate your opinion and understand the card is a tough one! Nathan wants to fight the best and is willing to put himself up against the best and both myself and his trainer Henry feel its a worthwhile shot for the kid, he works extremely hard in and out of the gym! He's scheduled to fight Ameen on the 25th and then onto the Main Event to face Brian Totty, so has great competition along the way to prepare him for the task ahead of him!
And Andy defo down on Sat bud and was hoping for a Bad Co lad in the tourney, but no worries if their all pre booked, if anything changes will get them in! But will speak to Richard on Sat anyway, what time does it all kick off on Sat mate?
I want to floyd mayweather buy my trainer would never do it to me. Any way sorry to piss on the parade. Good luck with the show will be ace either way.
No problem at all, I like underdogs, last year Richy Green was the favourite to win it all on paper but went out in the Semi's and Kyle Nicol and Sam Wilson went on to steal the show in a great final, so everyone in the tourney has a punchers chance!
This is looking awesome! Hopefully get on the undercard if yogi works his magic!
But tournament wise....tim v tom in the final would be cracking! Both good lads and cool with them both so I can't really call it! Tom is slick but if tim catches him with a bomb.....
Hope salah does well as he's my boy too and I'd love to see him upset a few characters!
And, its obviously a massive task for Nathan but fucking fair play to the lad if he's up for it! Who are we to say he's out of his depth, that's the thing about tournys and thaiboxing...any dog on any day! Copestake was well game at the NIA when everyone wrote him off as the little lad in the mix...and he did himself and K star proud!
1) Nathan Bendon-What a joke! can't seeing him go the distance with any of the other names. But if you think you can do it then go for it. why not
2) Thomas McCormick-Stands a really good chance of getting to the final
3) Brad Stanton-Could have the best chance of winning the whole thing.
4) Salah Abdulsalam-Really nice bloke but not a lot of power and will be exposed.
5) Liam Robinson-Will get to the semis or knocked out by the bigger punchers
6) Tim Thomas-stands a chance to make it to the finals providing he gets Bendon in the first round. Only saying this as I see the others outscoring him.
Looking forward to seeing the other names. What about Dicks?
shows looking good, will defo get down to watch. would like to see brad do well in this as hes a real sound lad and talented and hasnt had that 'big break' yet. and Tommi too. if it was at 63.5 id be more likely to do it but even then i think same as badger i wouldnt wana fight in a tourny. but ill never fight at 67kg cos i don't even walk around at that never mind fight at it. could defo push 61.5 if i properly cut weight.. its a shame badger wont fight in a tourny as hes already beaten some of the favourites in this and would stand a real shout at doing well in it.
I read some where that brad made one of the coperstake twins look silly. Not that that's hard to do, but they are tough warriors. I think brad or Charlie Peters could make the big upsets on here.
yes he does get recognition look how many people have said hes got a big chance in this...hes had some good ones
but onbly had about 10 fights aint he? hes nowhere near as experienced as the others in this but hes defo ready for the test
tiang kheun tnt being out scored by providing he gets nathan, your a bit sure of your self, tnt is much improved and is the current wrsa and iska world champion, they dont just hand those titles out for the fun of it, therefore i predict tnt vs brad stanton in the final/ or mccormick and tnt in the final ;)
Don't think Brad has ever been ignored never known anything bad say about him on ax, as Liam said he's not actually had that many fights def not A class ones anyway and I pretty sure he hasn't been training as long as you'd have thought someone of his talent has, I know he works very hard and I recon he'll do well in this, he's def one to watch
Is Charlie's WMC title a MAD title or the actual World title? Coz there seems to be a lot of WMC champs at that weight, Andrei Kulebin, Andy Thrasher, Greg Wooten?
that was ages ago right i think copestake did win. i think charlies was different weight the real WMC title at 66.7 is held by the thai dicks is gonna fight soon. kulebin doesnt hold the title anymore. charlies was at 70 but not sure which version it was.
Carl Copestake, K-Star had a fantastic victory over Tom McCormack from Wicker Camp Sheffield, who recently beat Yogendra Parekh. McCormack was very skilful, but Carl's relentless style wore him down in the end.
Mehndi Firoozi Wicker camp put on a brilliant display of Thai Boxing beating a VERY tough Shaun lomas from sheffield
A great night that started on time and was
Prathet does still want to fight over here but 67kg is too big.But hes open to all offers and said today that he would like to fight regularly if possible?
oh i thought kieran was from keddles and charlie from semtex, didnt think they were linked my bad. Jordan watson would be an awesome entry but he's probably got other commitments.

Yeap but dropping down to 67KG for this one, he fought last year in my 72KG tourney, stopped his first opponent with a Ax Kick, then lost on points against Kyle Nicol (tourney winner) in the Semi's. The guys a beast and arguebly the biggest man in the tourney!
No arguing about it he will be huge that weight if he don't cut right he will be f##ed big drop , I like Liam for this he will play the format well and score with out getrng busted up

Gonna forget Darren for now though as its ant Ferguson for me next on the 1st so that's where my focus and training is at right now, and I know Darren fights karpowicz the night before so he won't be thinking about me either! Lol
Brett Healy (Champion) VS James Whiston (challenger)
Brett Healy (Team Mafia) won the title in the first round with ground and pound on Sat 25th February 2012.
Brett and James were meant to fight in 2011 but as James was out with injury this never happened.
James Whiston (Blackwidow)is now 100% and wants the midland area title, Brett has just come off a impressive win. T
his will make a great fight, Brett is a great stand up fighter with years of kickboxing experinece and James has a solid wrestling base, expect a great fight in May.
Sorry I've been off here for a bit, been away on holiday!!
But the next fight to be announced is:
Daniel MaGowan (Liams Gym) VS Joe Boffey (Masda Gym)
These are two of the very best up and coming fighters in the country today, both have a wealth of junior experience and have won several titles between them, with Daniel winning a World Title against a Thai lad from Sasipapa Gym in Thailand!
This will officially be Daniel's adult debute bout and the fight will be B Class, cant wait for this!
I will also be announcing fights shortly for:

Julie deserves good.pay days, she is a.star . Ryan is forking out 3 k for.her fight with Amanda.Kelly later this year. Amanda will raise her game for this fight " to be the best you fight the best ,julies record speaks for it self .
Daniels fight at lumpini was at 46kg last month, he will be stepping up to 52kg day before in order to get a fight.
Just to correct a few details, it is McGowan, the thai he beat was not from Sasiprapa gym and the world title was won in England not thailand. He does however have wins at Lumpini and Rajadamnern stadium.
tnt tim thomas for the tornament :) james france vs frankie hudders if hes still active/richard fenwick or even michael dicks that would be war, kris addis vs ben hodge or chris shaw mouth watering

Hopefully he gets some sightseeing done on his trip over here coz he aint getting anything out of this fight poor kid is gonna be way out of his depth.
I am not sure what you mean by keep fighting shit people. Dean has always taken the most challenging fights he can during his career, but has to fight those who are put in front of him. Last years fight with Andy (Howson) was voted best Muay Thai fight of the year (ISKA 2011 awards). That was the fight before last! I think Andy is an excellent fighter and a challenging opponent in both ofd their fights. Do you think Andy is shit?
Who do you think he should he step up to fight? Please suggest an opponent in Europe he can fight between 53.5 and 55kg. Yogi has been actively canvassing opponents, as has Dan Green. Unfortunately promoters do not always have the resources to bring fighters from outside of Europe on every show.
To be honest, I don't think Dean has actually fought anyone with less experience than himself. Many of his opponents have had far more experience - some with over 100 fights more experience (e.g. Dimitri Varats – who has previous stopped Andy, defeated Damien (Trainer) and defeated Albert Chey. Dean has fought the best fighters around and available throughout his career. At various points he has beaten the UK number ones at different weight classes.
It is true his last opponent did not prove strong enough to provide a challenge for Dean, but that was not the promoter or Dean’s fault, the Italian was undefeated, more experienced and we were assured by a Thai coach who had seen them both that it would be a good challenging fight for Dean.
Dean does have a wish list of fighters he really wants to fight (including the very best in the world), but most are from across the other side of the planet and the reality is that promoters are not always in a position to afford to bring them on a whim. Dean has been promised he will get to fight them, but will have to wait for promoters to have the finances and right show to bring them.
Dean can only fight who is put before him. The Italian fights heavier than Dean and he won’t be taking this or any other fighter lightly.
I really came across aggressive there. Sorry. Its just a Shame that dean is stuck fighting on a massive show against some talentless people. Really challenge him self now. Why not get the Steven meledy fight on this one ? After pulling out the main event?
Stephen Meleadey or Davy mac be good fights theres a few youtubes of the Italian he will get kod i dont think its deans fault when u watch the dvd he looks pissed off at the last italian that he hasnt given him a decent fight looks light promoters need to dig deeper and get their hands in their pockets no point otherwise after he tore apart andy twice he needs to fight bigger peolpe his last fight with andy the best in uk at the weight was a mismatch
I agree that Dean needs challenges to progress and that due to his exponential growth as a fighter he is running out of possible opponents in the UK.... but I hardly think that you can describe a World title fight with Andy Howson a "mismatch". Dean was the better fighter on the night, but seems a bit disrespectful to say it was a mismatch considering Andy is a multiple time world champion.
Would love to see Dean fight Meleady or Trainor this year!
Looks like an awesome show, looking forward to it.
Dean needs to be looking at fighting people like Rungrawee. After watching Main Event and seeing Ste Meleady in action first hand, I don't see how he causes Dean any problems. But as Tony said earlier it's the promoters who need to get these fights on.
Winner of Howson vs Trainor 4 should get the next shot at Dean. If Andy wins and considering the previous 2 fights going Deans way, i still see no problem why a promoter would not put fight of the year on.
A fight between myself and Dean will not happen regardless of what happens in mine and Andy's next fight. We have often trained together and helped each other out when needed so it just something neither myself or Dean are interested in.
The show is looking great, the tournament alone would sell it out but you have the added bonus of the likes of Dean James etc fighting on it
Good luck with the show Yogi looks like another stormer.
I don't think Rungravee would make 55kg either Liam . He was 56.8kg when I fought him and I think his last fight was at 61kg. He walks around quite heavy too he's like a tank lol
Dean James is always looking to test himself against the very best opponents out there. Unfortunately Dean is beating everyone in Europe and the options that most promoters can afford are running out.
Both myself and Yogi have plans to put Dean on our shows against opposition from farther afield over the next 12 months. However if anyone has any European opponents at 55 kilos to suggest for Dean then please feel free.
Can Yetkin Ozkul make 59kg? Maybe Dean should step up in weight he has the height to do so. That would be a nice test. Can't see many at 55kg giving him much trouble.
Would like to see him in with Albert Chey, Phetnamchai Jitti, Rungrawee possibly at 57, Illias El Hadjoi, Tawatchai Budsadee Juk, Victor Pinto (Leo Siangboxing Gym).
This is if all can make a reasonable and agreeable weight.
The Victor Pinto would be quality definitely, i think dean would easily beat the others but no point giving away experience and weight to fight rungravee at 57 is madness
Liam don't you think he could make the step up in weight. Hardly any good fights for him at 55kg, like I said before he has the height and could easily fill out his frame or am I missing something?
I think the italian in green pants is good. The other one is better though.
Dean has under 20 fights so why should he rush to fight anyone?
If there is no one in your weight class to fight the only thing you can do is go up a next weight. Why cant dean and Rungwawee fight at 57kilograms?
dvs1 well it does make sense. If he stays the same weight he can only be at that for fighting others from europe but not Thailand.
If he moves into a new weight with a heavier style then the other fights can not be made and then you can only get matched as if he was in the weight before.
This is not his problem, Dean is a good fighter with a good stance and is fighting all the right people but if you make comments like this you'll obly make thinks harder for him to progress.
In terms of the tournament, I think Tommy McCormack has a really good style for this kind of format, but there's some people who can fair bang in there (Thomas & Robinson come to mind)! It's there for the taking.
I would have to go with Tim Thomas, some of the fighters are in big trouble if they draw TNT first. He is a class above some of the fighters in the draw, I predict some nasty knock-outs.
Its a shame that there isnt that much better fighters around Europe for Dean to fight against. After watching his last fight against the italian at Yogis show I can quite easily see this next one being another 2-3 round fight for him. From watchin vid of Luca above i dont think he has a chance in hell of getting close to Dean.
Show on other hand is looking amazing. I think i got thomas for the win on the tourny though
Underdog Nathan Bendon will pull a few surprises.
Dean can only fight who's infront of him. He has proven himself many times befor so why does he have to this fight?
nathan is a good little fighter this torny will be a good test for him however if he draws one of the experienced fighters especially tim or adrian then it will be goodnight, but anything can happen.
With a few changes to the fight card and less than 3 weeks to go here's where were at:

To be fair the NIA show was sick and it had 10k on the line!
I dont think any show could stand up to that.
This is going to be good thpough.
Michael Harbourne gonna get banged!!!!!!!!!!
Err i didnt mention anything about them not being strong, just i would rather watch Thai style v Thai style which this card has and the NIA didnt. wind your neck in.
The NIA card had:
Tim thomas, Thomas Mc Cormick, kotsur,K. Bhella, C Dickson,L Robinson, Kevin Harper and Dave Copestake.
This card seems to have a good balance of youth and experience as the NIA card was cursed with pull outs like thrasher and Mc Koy. Hope that this card stays intact, looks AWESOME.
Gutted dan McGowan had to pull out of r fight on this show hopefully his back gets better soon an someone gets the fight back on... Shows lookin sick!!
jm looool proper blunt dan mcgowan wud of prob blew ur socks off, give u more time 2 try and get a perfect game plan to beat him, i mean has to pin point, otherwise ull be picking ur teeth off the canvas, team mcgowan woosh

I have seen who the Thai is peeps, Yogi is just keeping it a secret for now. Despite the pull outs it still looks a good little tourny. Would love Tommi to win as a local lad and a mate to me, but TNT has to be the fav with those dynamite hands of his thats for sure. Thanks Yogi for having our boy Eddy SC Long on, he only fought 5 rounds last sat winning ISKA Area title but he wanted to help Yogi out with 1 of his pull outs and cant wait to fight on a card with people like this. Also good luck Mr Adiss, looking a different fighter in training at the minute :) Looking a good night Yogi mate.
Nice one mate really looking forward to Ed and Ravi opening the show for us going to be a great fight, if Ed's last performance is anything to go by! Tourney has really shaped up well and the introduction of a few International names really does spice it up! But do remember all there's another 14 A/B Class, Pro MMA & K1 bouts supporting the tourament itself!
Why keep it a secret? That's not really fair on the people in the tourney. There are way to many fights on by the time the final is in every one will be zzzzzzzz. Never understood why people put so many on.
jm1985 I dissagree. If I'm paying £30 to watch thai boxing I want to see fights. If there are only 12 fights scheduled for a night and there turns out to be 3 or 4 pull outs the week before, paying £30 to see 8 or 9 fights isn't really value for money.
This looks to be a top show, can't wait to be there.
jm1985 I do however agree the name of the Thai dude should probably be released with 8 days to go. This is surely a disadvantage to the other competitors in the tourney. Just my opinion guys thats all.

Got my reasons for keeping the Thai's name a secrete for now, but he's worth waiting for till Friday, he's had over 100 wins to his record and holds a world title too and im pretty sure he doesn't work in a Thai resturant! Everyone else in the tournament knows who he is and thats enough for now!

Real shame about this show. I heard TNT pulled out, there was no top Thai either and Dean James pulled out again and alot of pull outs. It's a Real Shame that happens. All this happened the week before the show and not a word of it anywhere. How out of order not telling people. My friends went to the show traveled up from London to find all this out on the day. They said they couldn't believe it, even bought a program and TNT name was still in it as fighting but nothing was said on the night sat there waiting to see him and no show. Are people entitled to a refund ? False advertising maybe ?.
I can understand people being disappointed with some names not appearing but unfortunately that is the nature of the fight game. It is definitely not false advertising though, all ticket at these type of events allow promoters the right to change the programme without notice. Perhaps the new tournament line-up could have been announced earlier on the night. thats said I have yet to see a tournament where all the fighters originally announced actually end up fighting on the night. It is such a hard job given the many variables and numbers involved.
Yogi really did an amazing job at pulling this show around after a series of generally unavoidable pull-outs, almost all last minute. Credit to those who stepped in, some with a days notice. The Thai got stopped with visa problems on Friday, I pulled Dean out on Thursday (he was so ill he couldn't stand up with a virus), Tim also had a virus and pulled out last minute other fighters variously broke their hands etc. In the end I thought the tournament was really entertaining with plenty of drama.
A strong fight for Dean James would be Victor Pinto, He is very technical , the hard part would be whether or not the promotion can handle the expense .
Great show with some really good fights... some big ko's and some nice controversy thrown in to the mix.
It's going to take me a few days before I can sort through all the pictures and get them on my site, but if you can bear with me, I'll let you know when they're all done. Well over 2000 frames to sort through.
If you 'like' my Facebook page in the meantime, I'll post a link to everything.
One of the best shows I have been too. Of course we all wanted to see the other big guns in the tourney but even without them it was exhileratingn, captivating and above had the crowd talking. Mccormick and Salah in the final was an intense fight. A great chance for up and coming fighters like Bendon to mix it up. For me the tourney had it all. Not to mention the undercard. Great skill and technique in all fights. Gutted not to see Dean James fight but I'm sure he himself is more than gutted not to be on the show. Hats off to Reece for taking the fight on such short notice especially after travelling to and from fighting in Japan not too many days ago. All round great show and one I'll be hungry to get my fighters on in the future.
Sawatdee Khrup!
I can only echo Tony & Kevin in that this was a very well organised show and a fantastic venue. Great high standard quality fights. Was good to chill out, kick back and enjoy a show instead of officiating for a change. Well done Yogi
SHAUN
Dean James, Kriss addis, tim tomas and a top thai?
biggest card in the midlands?
more like the biggest fail in the midlands. What a CON!
Nathan Bendon got stitched up to. what a fix!
Salha is an idiot why be such a doosh? You caused a lot of problems that nite.
sounds like a let down of a show..almost all the main names pulled out
keep hearing v pinto as an opponent for dean james...give v pinto another couple of years to get his man strength as dean already has..otherwise it seems opportunistic..if willing to bring a thai over then bring a proper seasoned thai over that has man strength totest dean james
Raj If your going to insult atleast do it properly , it's douche , I was not at the show but people pull out all the time and by the sounds of it they were all with in the last couple of days which is very unlcky for yogi
It does sound a bit shady that a 'top thai' was promised; who's name couldn't be mentioned. Then respected fighters come on here and state they know who the top thai is and he's the nuts. Then the 'top thai' doesn't appear.
A more cynical fella than me might have believed the 'top thai'was never going to turn and that the people stating they knew who he was was, were backing up their pal the promotor.
To be fair, it seems that a lot of promotors do the whole false advertising thing,
It is amazing the contrast of people who post on this forum.
You have the eloquent and articulate, who want more than anything for the sport to move forward and provide a platform for normal guys and girls to make a name for themselves.
People like Liam Harrison who I remember walking into Bad Company in Leeds as a 14 year old and his cousin Andy Howson who brought him along with him for something to do. Jordan Watson who was already at the Gym as a young kid when I joined the Gym in 1997. Look what these three guys have done on the World Stage! They got their chance to shine because people put shows on for little or no reward or finacial gain.
Then on the other hand you have people who under the convienient flag of voicing an opinion just pour poison and negativity on anything and everything. Most of them have never done anything in the sport and never will, because if they had they would realise that it is a labour of love to put on a show with all the stress that it brings.
Respect to Yogi. I have seen the stress he has gone through for the last four months putting the card together organising flights, sponsors, organising this Fantastic venue, dealing with pull outs replacing fighters and then with 48 hours to go watch it all fall apart and then still manage to pull it out of the fire! Reece Crooke, Tom Bird Respect to you guys you just keep giving to the sport, stepping up like you did! The Italian Team were also magnificent. Salah who did nothing wrong and in fact helped to make the event the success on the night that it was! The Final with Thomas McCormick was dramatic and everybody including the people booing couldn't wait to see it.
Without guys like Yogi and all the other People trying to move the sport forward, The sport is dead.
Hopefully eventually some fighters might start being able to make a living out of their god given talent, if we all realise we are all on the same side.
really enjoyed it,well done to everyone involved and pat on the back to those who took fights at last minute to help out the promoter who im guessing had a nightmare week.
didnt stay til the end but the fights i saw looked great and well matched.
Tony, are you saying that the average fan, who pays their money and supports the growth of Muay Thai through continually going to shows has no right to an opinion unless it's as positive one? Or if their opinion isn't positive they should just keep quite for the greater interests of UK Muay Thai?
Fans, pay the fighters wages and there woudln't be a vibrant(ish) UK Muay Thai scene if no one turned up for shows. If a fan isn't happy with the show or feel the promotor hasn't delivered on their promises they have every right to complain, be it directly to the promotor or via a 'community' message board.
I'm sure a promotors job is a very difficult one; but so are loads of jobs and if in my job I don't deliver on what I promised I get told in no uncertain terms and potentially get the sack. I can't believe that promoting is solely a 'labour of love'. There's money in it or people wouldn't do it time and time again.
I understand that by it's very nature promoting is a different beast to a normal 9-5 job, people will get injured and people will pull out, but in this case a top thai was promised, wasn't named, was endorsed by well known and respected members of the Muay Thai community and then never showed. From an outsiders perspective that looks like it was a ploy to get people to buy tickets. Can you not that see that?
Andy C don't worry, Tony just wants a free ticket to the next show. Helping the sport progress - you know.
Rich R I won't point it out but you should read through your post before posting it, especially when you are correcting the spelling of others.
On to the show.
With big events the card can change drastically so it would be a little more respectful to inform the ticket holders of the changes. Hiding them away until the show starts can seem a little deceiving. I wouldn't say it's a con, I'd say it's just business and all promoters do it. After paying £30 being informed of the alterations would have been better than turning up and seeing unrecognizable fighters in the tournament.
Of course there is more to promoting, some people have to make a name in the sport from it because their gym is outright dogshit.
In all fairness it was an entertaining show. The Italians were as crap as normal but cannon foddr is needed.
Fair play to Bendon wanting to get in there with the big boys but what happened was to be expected whether it was the first round or the first minute.
Salah did make things interesting I have to agree.
I don't know how Reece Crooke got away with fighting so soon after a stoppage loss, that was just not safe.
We are all entitled to have our opinion whether we pay or not. I'm sure this show will bring mixed reviews but that's what promotions need feedback.
Wages? I have yet to see a fighter or for that matter a promoter, driving around in a Bentley.
Most of the time I see the fighters with Ice packs on various parts of their bodies or doing something they love, actually fighting, training or weighing in looking close to death from a weight cut.
Most of these guys would do it for practically nothing, they get a percentage of the tickets they sell. and if you have ever done a six week training program for a fight as well as your 9 to 5. You will know its for the love of it.
As for the promoters they are usually seen supporting / Judging other promoters shows and handing out flyers for their next show. Most of them been fighters, have their own Gyms and students
They do love it and they do it as well as a normal job in most cases.
None of these people are living the high life.
The fans the come basically to see the sport as an art form in some cases, have a few drinks, support friends and relatives, be entertained and witness violence at close hand fact! And on saturday night nobody can say they were not entertained despite fighters being ill, injured and being stopped at immigration.
You are right, everyone is entitled to an opinion and its not my place to take the moral high ground.
I also acknowledge that it must have been disapointing for people wanting to see TNT Thomas, Dean James, etc, it is also correct that feedback from the general public should be taken onboard otherwise how can things get better.
Well you can't please all of the people all of the time, but I took 20 people from my gym and everyone loved the show. Also everyone I spoke to at the show loved it so from what I can see the majority who attended were pleased. So in my eyes that makes a successful show.
It was disapointing that the names that were supposed to be on were not. It's not the end of the world though.
You don't always need big names to have good fights. A good fight is a good fight.
This show had good fights, so it was successful Tony I have to agree.
Fair points Tony; I agree with the majority of what you say!
I'm totally aware of how much fighters earn and wasn't for one second stating that's its a lot; but what little they do earn comes from the fans paying to watch them fight.
imo the only way wages will improve is if the main players in promotion get together and organise a ufc type org..putting on 4-6 huge shows a year...with shows of that size they could potentially attract someone like sky/euro sport in uk and other media outlets around the world as well as sponsorships
imo these small shows that saturate the market will never bring fighter a wage..the highest earner are the promoters...and it's pish that they don't earn money...you don't gamble 10,000 to make 500-1000 profit...and you only have to look at he amout of shows on to know this isn't he case
What you need is somebody that has dealings with some of the biggest companies on the planet, that are always getting contracts signed with these companies to have certain business dealings with them.
You want to learn more more about what we can do for your promotions visit the site and ring the number.
we are also dealing with a couple of promotors at the moment to do something big for them.
Just seen most of this after the hectic weekend and I'd like to start off by thanking everyone that attended the show and all the fighters and trainers who supported the show, it was a great success for Muay Thai in Birmingham and a step in the right direction!
The last 48hrs leading upto the show was stressful as hell, we were faced with pull out after pull out!
On Thursday (Day before the weigh in) we lost:
A Super heavyweight - due to being under weight from what was orignally agreed.
Dean James - Due to a very bad viral infection, I saw Dean on Wed night at my house and he was in a bad way so totally right decision on the part of Tony Myers.
Tim Thomas - Due to the same thing as Dean by the sounds of it but still need to speak to Jon in regards to this as he's been working away.
On Friday @2.00pm (Day of the weigh in):
Ruengsak Thai fighter and World Champion, flights paid for him and his trainer as well. Due to immigration issues and not having the right visa to travel with, even though this was something that we checked in advance!
On Thursday I managed to replace both Dean and Tim with Italian Champion (For tourney) & Reece Crooke stepped into take Dean's spot (Thank you both so much for stepping up and helping us out in this situation!)
Replacing the Thai on 24hrs notice was not as easy and real headache alongside running the weigh in, promo pics, ticket collection etc! But hats off to Andy Howson who contacted Tom Bird who has not fought in two years to step in last min to fill the final spot! (True warrior and a real credit to the sport!)
I then worked till 6am in the morning preping for the show, slept 3hrs and went and pulled off the biggest show in Brum!
Im sorry if I couldn't spare the time to notify the world of Ax in regards to all the drama going on in my life, but felt I had bigger fish to fry!
Just in closing I would like to thank all fighters (Especially those who fought last min), Trainers for your commitment and hard work, over 1000 supporters for turning up and making our event a huge success and all the officials, set up crew, media team, camera men/women, legendary MC etc and anyone else who contributed in making this show great event!
Well done to all competitors and for Salah and Tom making the final, we've got even bigger things scheduled this year with more super shows and possible huge collaborations with other promoters and a new gym opening with new coach Any Howson, so hopefully will help give Brum the opportunity to do even better!
Well done to Yogi for the 8 Man Standing Show at the weekend, we understand what a headache it can be organising everything, so totally appreciate all that was going on in the background.
Thanks for the opportunity for Olegs Jablonins & Daniel Zak (who took the fight at very short notice) from OMAA to have the chance to compete on a top show.
I echo the opinions of others who have stated above, that our team all enjoyed an evening of Muay Thai fights and so did everyone else we spoke to.
By the way, the photo's are excellent, let us know when the dvd be available. Thanks.
