Lucy,

maybe you could tell us more about KB4.

Is this a one-off 4 man eliminator for both divisions, or do you plan to host a series leading up to a KB4 King?
Lucy Tui
Posted: 2002-06-01 08:15:04
Hi Paul,

Thanks for asking about the KB4 this is going to be a on going competition we will be having two other different divisions on the 21st September as well probably looking at the 86kg and 67kg divisions Kickboxing rules only.....
Having had the experience in the K1 and seen how it was run and listening to fighters I thought of this idea.....
I thought that this would suit the NSW fighters more than others because of the restrictions here in NSW and I did not what to see them left behind so to speak.....
Where the style of tournament fighting is concerned...
I would see the fighters after there first fight battered and bruised and thought of a way of fighting where there would be more technique used
and time for them to be able to recover and have extra round of been able to win the fight without having to get rid of there opponents and gives there other fighter time to come back and letting the public see good quality fights...
To be able to fight in this type of tournament you have to be 18yrs and over had over 6 fights in kickboxing or thaiboxing or Boxing...you can be a professional or amatuer........
you will be in two groups A or B you fight 4x2min first up if you win from your group then you proceed to the final round which is 5x2min with 1 min rest......there will be NO DRAWN ROUND NO EXTRA ROUND A WINNER
MUST BE CHOSEN...........
In the Amatuer tournament divisions you must fight 3x2min rds then 4x2min rds final...
You can use this system in Kickboxing, Thaiboxing, and Boxing in which we will be using for the KB4 Tournaments.........
If there are any Promoters overseas who would like to promote this tournament using this system please email and I will send you the copy of the rules & regulations......

KB4 can only be a positive step for the sport Nationwide & World wide...
Regards
Lucy Tui

OK,

So, if Peter Graham wins this eliminator above, does this mean he is the KB4 champion for the year?

I guess I'm wanting to know if this is a qualifier for a finals event, or is the winner of this one show going to be his weight divisions KB4 champ?

What sort of prize-money, if you don't mind me asking?
Lucy Tui
Posted: 2002-06-01 09:20:13
Hi Paul,
I guess for now he would be the KB4 Champion 2002....unless we have another show at the end of the year.....I think it is best to see how we go with this event first......
The prize money will be $5000 for the winner the other fighters will receive
$1000...I guess we have to start from somewhere..........they only get to fight twice not 3 times like the K1....in which I guess helps to eliminate injuries.......
The supermiddle weight will get the same amount as well........
It works out good for the fighters and the Promoters.
What do other ax readers think of this new concept.???????
Regards
Lucy Tui
vince
Posted: 2002-06-02 00:38:26
i think it's a good idea...the final fights are likely to be better cos they'd be less banged up...2 diff divisions in the 1 night is good too (so u have almost as many fights as a k-1 fight night)...can understand having no elbows, but does 'kickboxing rules' include knees? it'd be good if it did, K-1 rules would be good..i'd think the middle and welter divisions would be a good bet in future, with the likes of dawson, choppa, elson, rexy, f16 etc...good luck with the show, go NZ!
Lucy Tui
Posted: 2002-06-02 03:05:30
There are No knees or Elbows or spinning back fist here in NSW you are not allowed to use knees that is the whole idea of me using this new concept because of the rulings here in this State........but still able to use a tournament style of fighting......
This show will be 100% kickboxing rules......with inside outside leg kicks...
Regards
Lucy Tui

At this stage we will only be promoting one winner one division for the year until we see how this turns out I would like to run one in the middle
of the year and one at the end of the year with different divisions....

How desperate is Nathan Briggs? He seems to be uterly lost in the ring these days! Is it just the meagre wage his fighting for? Great to see Graham back. I think he might pull this one off, but Suttie to me is the dark horse! Alot faster than all these guys and could win it with clever point fighting and counter attacks!
Lucy Tui

I think it will be Peter winning the Heavyweight, Suttie's a great fighter, but think Peter will take his time and outpoint him.
Baris or Mckinnon, haven't really seen many Mckinnon fights, but there's not too many guys that can take one of Baris's big shots flush.

Also reckon Foley will win his fight,
And August Luasa his.
Champion
Posted: 2002-06-03 04:06:21
Lucy,
How does August get a shot at the title when he was viciously ko'd one minute into his last fight????
Lucy Tui
Posted: 2002-06-03 05:22:10
Champion, you are talking about another August, his surname is Mafiti from Mundines Gym,he was sick with the flu that night apparently he was kneed,I did not see the
beginning of the fight only saw him hanging out of the ring KO'd.
August Lusua is WKBF Australian Superheavyweight Amatuer Champion
from Saed Gym Guildford....

Hi Lucy,

I never comptemplated the thought of figthing under Kickboxing rules, as I do rely on the Grapple Knee to get me out of trouble, and I am Muay Thai first and foremost. But upon saying this, I realise I need to gain experience in the Kickboxing circuit if I want to make it to the K-1 Max Oceania line up(which my goals and aspirations are set towards).

Judging from my last fight, whom I fought Richie 'Hardcore' Stewart for the W.K.B.F. Light Middleweight NZ Title. I still believe I lost, because his leg and hand - hand and leg combinations and skill, were both high in workrate and technically sound. I was very lucky to take the win. And I am happy with the thought that, it is what I need to more of, if I want to convince myself of a satifactory win. Some people say, "You only learn from your losses", but I say I learnt from that win, Thanks Richie!

So, yes I will be looking forward to fight under a promotion of yours Lucy, if it means an increase to what I already know. I have fought under many other disciplines and it is only fitting that I finally experience and there after in Kickboxing, you can only get better, stronger, faster.

I'll plan ahead with Rex and find a date on our calendar, as to what month I can I have my first Kickboxing bout(and train real hard according to the rules, so that won't throw a knee and slip an elbow...hehehe). Pretty much booked up for the next three - four months. And I only fight between 69kg - 72kg no more, no less!!!

Thanks to those who put my name forward on my behalf, it's cool to be even considered on Amatuer status.

I must go now to the Hyperbolic Chamber and increase my Super Saiyan Volcano Level l to Super Saiyan Volcano Level 1.5, to prepare for my adventure in Japan.

See you on the moon...

Hi Dowgy,
If the venue was bigger I would have given a few discounts but because it only holds 500 - 600 people and that is pushing it and a big budget probably not and I am doing a Fundraiser on the night for the Homeless Youth in the Northern beaches as well....and a % of the money from the tables I sell go towards the chosen Charity......which is Taldumande Youth
Services Inc Helping to care for homeless youth and young people at risk on Sydneys North Shore.......
Taldumande means SAFE HOUSE in aboriginal language.. I like the cause and the meaning........Having lived in the area for 22years...
