This article should answer some questions.

.Charles takes place on throne as new world kickboxing king
Aug 13 2008 by Our Correspondent, Birkenhead News

Lee Charles

WIRRAL martial arts instructor Lee Charles has been crowned World Kickboxing Champion after enjoying victory at the CIMAC World Cup.

During the last eight months, the 32-year-old founder and co-owner of Elite Martial Arts, based in Price Street Business Centre, has won the English, British, European and WAKO International Golden Gloves titles.

But now he has compete his coup of titles after scooping the World Kickboxing Championship despite having two years out of international competition – something he believes helped him to victory at the CIMAC World Cup.

Lee said: “The past two years were crazy, as I had a lot going on in terms of personal things and I started in the movie business doing stunts and acting.

“But this year, I decided to go back to the competition scene – just as a challenge for myself. I never imagined that I would be so successful. It’s utter madness, but I put it down to having the time and flexibiltiy to train with running my academy.

“I have a great team behind me and I think that is one of the key elements to my success this year. I have a few fights left in me yet, just how many I'm not sure. But with the continued support and encouragement from everyone at my academy, I'll do my best.”

Lee has also signed up for two movies and has planned fights abroad for the rest of the year, including some in Italy, Belguim, Miami and Bulgaria.

Lee aded: I would finally like to thanks master Brian McKinney, Benny 'The Jet' Urquidez and my sponsors.”

I trained with Benny The Jet Urquidez and found out Lee is a student of his.
I think he does Light Continuous or Semi Contact not Full Contact
He is a really nice guy

I teach lots of middle aged women and kids at a public school kickboxing, and they are really nice people too, however they all say they train kickboxing NOT kickboxer's, you cant be a boxer unless you fight in the ring, am or pro its still full contact, can you imagine anyone saying they are boxing world champion, but only in lc or semi contact? its ridiculous. Same in kickboxing, I dont care how nice you are, or how good you can kick thin air or even some pads, you aint a kickboxer unless you fight in a ring, let alone a world champion!

Tis almost as funny as a thai boxing world champion who's never fought in thailand.

So is CIMAC not seen as a thai championship by you guys?

CIMAC events are run by Neville Wray, predominantly light and semi contact with no FC or MT.

I was told that he has fought Full contact as well?
How would he do if he fought FC rules?
How would you match him? You cant match him with a novice obviously.

1st it would be nice if you filled out your profile just_love_kickboxing!, tis nice to know to whom we talking to.
You will notice at ax they no longer allow you to post about lc, semi contact or interclubs on this forum. Not because anyone is being anal, just to separate real kickboxing and thai from martial arts or other semi/lc activities.
If you dont know the difference try traing lc/semi and see what happens if you fight full contact! World of difference.

Sorry, have to disagree LC is still kickboxing. It should just be diferentiated as such - light not full contact.

Well ax disagree white wolf, hence no posts about lc or semi or interclubs on this forum. And while I agree lc has a place in teaching kickboxing, I also spar lc to improve my technique, It dont make you a kickboxer, its a discipline.
To put lc fighters on a par with full contact isnt fair. We all fight for the glory, there's no money init. we fight to be called a kickboxers, some of us champion kickboxers, and a comparison is detrimental to anyone who has the bottle to fight under full contact rules and deserves the respect being a kickboxer. So to call yourself one when you dont fight is disrespectful and untrue.
kick and thaiboxing will never progress professionaly until rules are standardised, and all associations agree on a format. So distinctions have to be made, and they start here on this ax website.
