Topic:Azem & Majstorovic Has Been Suspended

From MAN-Magazine;

As published this morning in a Swiss newspaper not only AZEM MAKSUTAJ has been suspended (1 year) but also PETAR MAJSTOROVIC has been supended for TWO YEARS!!! ...Majstorovic refused to do a drugtest after his fight!

The WKA will have a problem now, so is Promoter Thomas Kastle; the WKA because their belt has become worthless and Kastle becauese he has now fighters. we wonder what their next move will be.

We suggest that if the WKA president Paul Ingram have some manners left he gives the belt to Mrs. Ilona Hug's little boy 'SEYA' to remember his dad! Promoter Kastle however will never allow this because that belt is the last thing he has to (mis)use the name of Andy Hug to attrack people into his events because his line-up will be poor.

The following statement was published in a Swiss newspaper this morning. Unfortunately it's in German:

Who were they banned by? K1 or WKA? How far does the power of their bans go?

It basically says that the swiss Kickboxing and karate Asssociatiion asked members of the swiss olympic testing body, to conduct test on it's behalf. The test were to be on two fighters that were competing for the super heavyweight Thai boxing world title left vacant since the death of Andy Hug. Azem maksutaj was given a ban for one year after providing positive results in his test. he stated that he had been given medication for therapeutic reasons, and that the two issues were related. He asked to give a seciond test to show he was free of drugs. The decision was upheld.

Petra Mastorovich refused to take a test and was given a two year ban. which is the maximum that can be given to non olympic atheletes in these circumstances. It goes on to say that there will be another world title show on September the 18th. For ethical and moral reasons the swiss Kickbox asssociation are submitting new candidates for consideration

IMPORTANT NOTE

Farhad;

1) "Maksutaj isn’t a proper heavyweight"

No he is not!

2)"They both sued to fight for team Andy and weren’t they sparring partners?"

AZEM MAKSUTAJ has never been a member of Team Andy! In fact, Andy Hug has only spent very little time together with Azem, and that was the few times Andy was home in Switzerland to fight, or to visit his beloved family. Azem was never close to Andy Hug, or close to become a member of his team. Andy did a show in Switzerland, short before the Fight Night 2000, where Andy was fighting CroCop, and I think that was the first and only time, where Azem was together with Team Andy.

3) "Yes the belt SHUD be presented to Andy’s wife and son!"

Yes it should! But Promoter Thomas Kastle is one big jerk, and he has no dignity or respect for other people than himself, and he will never voluntarily give anything away for free.

Petar and Azem are both from Switzerland.

I have big respect for Petar, I think he is an excellent fighter with very beautiful skills, in karate and in the K-1.

I was due to fight Azem in Basel last year, but it was switched at the last moment. He is an accomplished fighter at lighter weights, who moved up in weight...

Petar and I have met several times and he and his mate Nilo are great people - I have a lot of time for them. I hate to think of Petar doing drugs - he doesn't seem the type. Perhaps theres more to this than meets the eye...

The world title fight should be between a Swiss fighter, in respect to Andy, and either me or Mike MacDonald - as we drew in the world title eliminator in March.

Stay clean, stay healthy!

It will be a load of bollocks if Gary doesn't get offered a shot at this title. I'm suprised he wasn't in the first place.

My translation:

---8<---

The comittee of the Swiss Kickbox- and Karate Association Swisskickbox has requested a one respectively two years ban from fighting title fights in the case of the two competitors who fought for the Thai Box Superheavyeight World Champion title (vacant since the death of Andy Hug) due to positive drug test result for one fighter, and refusing the drug test for the other.

On the 8th of May 2004, Swissolympic - on behalf of Swisskickbox - has conducted a drug test on the two Swiss candidates for the title fight for the World Champion in Thai Boxing Superheavyweight title TBX +95 kg (which is vacant since the death of Andy Hug), Petar Majstorovic and Azem Maksutaj.

Petar Majstorovic has refused the test, while Azem Maksutaj's test results were positive. Azem Maksutaj confessed having been administered some of the blacklisted drugs found for medical reasons. He indicated he would be willing to give further urine samples on request to prove in the meantime he became clean of all substances. Furthermore he voluntarily agreed to be bound by and abide by the anti-doping rules of Swissolympic, which is not default for athletes in non-olympic sports. The Association has requested a one year long ban from title fights for Azem Maksutaj, beginning on the now passed date of 8th of May 2004.

Petar Majstorovic on the other had has to expect a two year long ban, as refusing the drug test in current practice usually results in being charged with the highest possible penalty. The athlete was officially briefed about this fact when he refused to get tested, but that didn't change his decision.

In the committee's opinion, the standards and requirements for a World Champions should be high, and not just in athletic performance, but also regarding their qualities as role models. As the title fight scheduled for September 18th is for the World Champion title of Andy Hug which is particularly highly regarded and symbolic in Switzerland, due to ethical and moral reasons it is mandatory for Swisskickbox to request from WKA (World Kickboxing & Karate Association) a reselection of Swiss contenders for this title fight.
