My First Visit to Thailand I will Take to My Grave ! It was so much ! and I will never forget it ! "Fantastic"
One part I remember:-
I had the Priveledge to actually Share the same Ring and Light spar in the Sityodtong Pataya Camp, with the Legendary Samarts Brother Chart / Kongthoranee Payakarhun ! ( Samart was in the Same Ring Kicking Thai Pads ! Awesome ! ) Met Master Senan Yodthong too ! Top Trainer / Master / Arjarn.
And I Believe My Pics: still up in the Camp, on the Wall from about 18 Years Ago, My First Visit ! "Amazing Thailand"

At first the place blew my mind- everything seemed great(except the food). After a while certain mists began to clear and I began to see negative stuff too. After a year and a half I felt very sickly bitter with so many aspects of the country, culture, and society and left at this point (although I was lapping up a greater range of food by now).

I do believe that the coolest people I met were involved in Muay Thai though and I have a lot of fantastic memories of Thailand but many horrible ones too.

It can't come quick enough. Only going for 3 weeks, would be better if it was 3 months!!

FatBoy. Where about in KS is that temple with the mummified monk?
Also any other places you think are worth a visit in KS? Keep it clean!!...lol

Any AXers going to be in BKK, Phuket & KS over the month of October?

Muaythai King,

From recollection the Mummified monk is south of the island. I remember hiring a moped and travelling past Lamai, Koh Samui is not a big Island at all, you can get round it easily in a day with sightseeing.

Also check out the waterfall. If you get an Island guide it will all be on there.

Defo check out the 'Green Mango' bar on Chaweng Beach, great night spot. Also another bar called the 'Islander', great bunch of guys and girls that run it. I watched most of the last world cup in there.

Cheers,

"Amazing Thailand"
May 2000. It was my first time overseas and I went to Phuket with a couple of the boys from my Muay Thai Gym. Found a really old style thai gym on a roof top of some shady apartments in the heart of Patong Beach (Singh Patong). There was only 2 Thai boys training there and one of the boys was training hard for a fight at Lumpinee.
We were only there for 10 days which was not a long time. The trainer at the gym (Marnit) said if we wanted to go on a road trip from phuket to bangkok to see Soup fight.
I was like Kap kap kap kap yes way! It took about 10 hours with stops to get to Bangkok it was me and my 2 mates and like 4 Thai dudes and only Marnit spoke english. Ended up at the weigh in on the Saturday morning of the fight and ended up being aloud to work the corner for the thai fighter Soup during the breaks in between rounds. It was such an awesome experiance that I was itching to fight when I got back to Perth and had a good win against Jake the Muss!
Been there 7 times now and love talking to people about the place, had a hot thai GF for a while and met the like of the Crazy Ian Stewardson along the way.

Where's the exact location of your camp? It is in Bangkok, isn't it?
I will only be in BKK for a week, and I have alot of personal stuff to get out of the way firstly, but I would like to get some training done, whilst in BKK!

yeh woody, fair comment thailand does have its bad side to it, i found living in bkk for a couple of weeks stifling i think bkk is a contradiction with the poor and the rich so intertwined, i found the poverty hard to stomach at times,

as a post script though , last yr i did a child protection course and the woman taking it told me that thiers is more child poverty in BRITAIN than thailand, when i scoffed and told her "trust me ive been to bkk" she explained that in britain we hide the poverty much better.
woody
Posted: 2004-07-24 18:11:37
wasnt talking about poverty was talking abuse,if i told you it was happening in a boarding school or in a church choir or in a gymnastics club you would all believe me no problem,oh no but not in the land of smiles
Satankid
Posted: 2004-07-25 00:29:49
Stevie- the trouble with that is it's all relative and UK sets the bar at a high level on a world scale. 'Poverty' in UK is not the same as poverty in Thailand.
In US when they talk about poverty they mean people whose car is more than a year old and those who do not have a butler.

On what did the woman base her facts?
